i think the new keys really make the whole keyboard clash with the imac. i mean, now that theres no white on the imac, the white keys stand out oddly. it probably looks nice with the old imacs though!

EDIT: here is an image from engadget, proving my point of the non matchiness of the white keys. <snip image>

It matches the mighty mouse, thats kinda cool

the keys need to be black and the mighty mouse needs to be black with a clear cover, end of story. new wireless keyboard sucks and comes as a huge dissapiontment to me. there is no reason to exclude a numeric pad, it even looks bad without it.

I agree, it is pretty ugly. I really do like the look of the wired one though.

lame indeed

I do like the new design of the keys a lot.

But why... Why... Why did they have to chop up the wireless keyboard? Why not have a real direction key block? Why get rid of numeric keypad?

And WHY reposition the volume, eject, and expose buttons? There is NO reason for that last change. None. Zero.

Why did they have to do it this way?

I will call the new keyboard "the mighty keyboard". It is just like the Mighty Mouse. Looks nice. Works nice - in theory. Utter crap in real life use.

Funny, I was going to wait to see if it was for real before purchasing a new keyboard...if only they would make the darn keys dark (or even black) I would buy one ASAP...as it stands, I find myself wanting an older black USB pro keyboard (like what came with the DA/Quicksilver G4 towers)...or even the older graphite/black USB keyboard that came with the original G4 towers. As for the mouse, it seems silly that it isn't color-matched either...black pro mouse (one button optical with adjustable clicker sensitivity) stays on my desk for now.

like the new wireless keyboard,

dont mind there being no number pad as ive no need for one, but plently of people do
this route seems the opposite of other manufactures that have chunky keyboards with loads of somethimes unwanted shortcut buttons. Guess they wanted a more portable keyboard

surprised apple have gone for this, have been looking and wanting a keyboard like this for a while, seen them produced by small manufactures but not a large company like apple

I wonder if i could get a bluetooth adapter for my ibook and then it would work?

Things don't always have to match!... ;) mixing materials gives contrast :p

I just ordered one of these keyboards. I know, I know- the fashion fauxpas of the white keys!! What WILL the neighbors think?? Bridge club doors will be closed and barred now.

I think it looks a LOT better then the old keyboard, which had a kind of mickey-mouse appearance.

I'm headin to the apple store now to see if they have any. It is doubtful, but its right on my way home, so why not try. If I get it, I will post impressions and pics!

I like it personally (probably better than the current mushy keyboard), but I really wish the keys were the same as the MBP instead of the MB.

PowerBook/MBP has the best keyboard ever IMO.

new keyboard has 10 key

so, from the pictures from the news confrence, it looked as if the new keyboard didnt have the 10 keys and the forward delete, however the picture on the apple store shows diffrent

Nice keyboard.

I'm aware there are plenty discussions about the new keyboards but in a new topic it is easier to get questions answered rather than finding an hour later there is another 30 pages to the topic.

Why does the wireless version not feature a numpad?

I wish they would include a version of the keyboard with a trackpad like the MB/Ps - I much prefer a trackpad than a mouse for everyday things. Only time I use a mouse is when I'm doing graphics or something; since using my MBP's trackpad a lot I find a mouse annoying and clumsy for everyday use.

THe new keyboard looks like it was designed by someone in R&D that was soon afterward fired. Stupid ugly keyboard. I spent the money on a MBP because I hated the feel of the MB keyboard.

Bad Apple:mad:

I've ordered a wired one. I'd rather have gone wireless, but don't want a cut-down keyboard and besides, I could do with the extra USB ports.

like many others, i would have liked to see (and would still like to see) a full-size wireless keyboard. i am definitely not going back to wired and i want the keypad. this was not a smart move on Apple's part.

maybe i'll change my mind once i see it in person, though.

I usually find myself sacrificing functionally for design; however, it is clear to me that Apple made an error here. No keypad is no better than working from a laptop. During normal day to day I use the number pad more often than anything. While we can all attest to the idea that we've gotten very good at actually using the linear keys up top to key numbers, as others have said the keypad is useful and faster. I can see Apple keeping this and offering a silly add on, which doesn't help the form factor at all.

I wanted the new keyboard and thought about going towards a wired one, but given all the other damn cables I cannot see myself doing this just because the new keyboard is so stylish.

I wish they hadn't made this move and I simply do not understand it.
I do like the new iMacs though. ;)

I think it could be lovely.

I've been looking for ages for a decent bluetooth mini-keyboard. All the ones I could find are maxi sizes.

The Happy Hacker one is nice but it's wired. I brought the old BT Apple keyboard, but returned it after a week as I didn't like the feel.

I never use the numberpad nowadays. I used to use it extensively for playing Angband and other dungeon crawlers but I'm trying to do less of that now :)

I have two of the famous IBM models aka "the best keyboard evar" but they're just too big and heavy now. I liked the ThinkPad keyboards, and I LOVE my powerbook keyboard (after disabling the caps lock key which i accidentally press all the time).

Only problem with the new Apple keyboard is it's a bit expensive - 50 quid yikes! RSI and body posture demands that I get it tho. Looking forwards to trying it out at Apple Regent Street soon.

My problem. System requirements, why 10.4.10 I would have loved to have a wireless one for my Lombard. I might pick up a wired for my imac though if they have them instore tomorrow.

that's rad! i was just about to pull the trigger on a new keyboard - i HATE the one that came with my mac. i actually like the idea of the small wireless as i use photoshop a ton and it will make it less of a reach for the keyboard shortcuts and more room on my desk for my mouse hand. it does suck that for those who don't like it, they have no option but wired. a keyboard is a relatively simple thing, why couldn't they just do both?
