Fieldrunners is all of the tower defense I need!

Downloading now... Since it's free, I'll give it a shot. Looks better than most Tower Defense games although doesn't seem to top fieldrunners.

I'll try it out :)

Switch off GPS ("About", then "Location Services" below "Bluetooth") in the iPhone settings and it will not ask again. A little bit strange anyway that behaviour of TapDefense. I've got those messages TWO TIMES after each level (on the screen with the ads) to tap away with "No"!

"Tap Defense" against what exactly..?! ;-)

Yeah, I've deleted the app and rated it a 3.

I didn't like it as much as fieldrunners nor the fact that it kept asking for my location twice after every level. And yeah, I'd rather pay a little than have ads all over the place.

Mine didn't ask.

The little add shows up in between level at the bottom of screen. Not a big deal for me.

For a free game it's pretty good. Took a bit to figure out upgrading, and the text for the $ is TINY!!

Please rest assured that our game is NOT SPYWARE. The location sensing was a feature that we introduced to coincide with our website to show a map with players around the world and how far along the game they have gotten.

I like this app! Five stars for the price. Take one away for lack of support site.

Looking at the reviews, about half of them are glowing one star reviews from people who apparently don't know how to use the app rating system. The other half of the low star reviews are a mix of people who got hit with the original GPS bug as well as from defensive fans of the "infinitely" more expensive Field Runners.

Have not put together the right tower combos to beat the 30th level (on Easy.)

A friend of mine told me about level thirtyone (he has a test iPhone that will be deleted shortly so he doesn't care about if it's spyware or not): "Try to sell so much towers as needed to be able affording Earthquake tower and then the app will crash."

It's just an UGLY war game with CRUEL sounds, maybe SPYWARE (you can believe that published excuse or not), surely ADWARE, and it CRASHES when it gets critical. Hands off! There will be other nice tower defense games in future. Don't get located by a harmless looking little war game! Free or not.

If you can't resist playing it turn off iPhone's "Location Services" as described above and activate "Airplane Mode" (or deactivate all Internet connections, Wi-Fi and Cellular), before! (And don't forget to reverse those settings after gaming.) Maybe it helps.

Old data network security wisdom: No matter how paranoid you are - you are not paranoid enough!

You may use my words freely if you agree and want to post a review in App Store (foreign consumers can't buy or review apps in U.S. Apple iTunes App Store. Give it one star. Thx.

In the attachment there is a possible tower arrangement description that survives level thirty in easy mode. Don't open or look at it if you want to find the solution for yourself. The screenshot was made by my friend.

I have location turned off, it never asked me for my location/told me I need to turn it on for it to work. The graphics aren't the greatest, it lags a bit at times. It's fixed path, and there's only three paths. Easy, medium, and hard. All that being said, I think it's worth downloading. It's hard after a while, and sometimes I like playing fixed path instead of sandbox. So it nicely counters fieldrunners. Hoping for an update soon.

Response from TapDefense Creators

Hi Everyone,

I'm one of the creators of TapDefense (and also a full time grad student). First, I want to thank those of you who downloaded for taking the time to try it out. We spent a lot of energy building this game because we love the Tower Defense genre and we're huge iPhone fans.

Also, please allow me to address the location-prompt issue: we designed the game to ask for location because we intended to build a map on our website (www.tapjoy.com) to show, in real time, the location of users playing TapDefense. Unfortunately, the current version of the game has a bug and continues to create that pop-up if users don't click "ok". I sincerely apologize for this issue and I'd like to assure you that TapDefense is NOT SPYWARE.

We should have an update out this week which will make this problem (and a few others) go away.

If anyone has other comments/suggestions/feedback, etc please send us a note at: feedback AT tapjoy DOT COM --- we would sincerely love to hear from you as we try to make this game better in future updates.

Thanks again for the support!

Best,
Lee

me too and it didn't work....however, i was able to finally beat level 30 and the easy level in its entirety, so i can say for sure that there isn't a glitch (well maybe i was the only who thought that out of frustration lol)

BTW thanks for a great app!

I love this game! As I'm new to the Tower Defense genre, I must say that this game surely wet my appetite.

I just beat the game on Easy, so I'm not advertising myself as an expert. But here are my tips so far:

  1. Save your gold
  2. Ice is cool
  3. Try get double use of your towers
  4. Save your gold

1. Yeah, "Save your gold" is there twice on purpose. I never spend gold until I'm sure I really need it (takes some experimentation of course, no pain no gain). For instance: The first two levels are easy to beat with a two-headed arrow tower. I buy increased interest rates for the first four halos I earn. Then I research the Ice tower, then the magic tower and then interest rate increase again. The last halo I use to research the Storm tower.

2. Even when the game informs you that some creatures are immune against Ice I keep my Ice towers. The creatures take less damage, but the Ice still lowers their speed. I use Ice and Bombs in pairs. The Ice lowers the speed allowing for more bombs to find home. The Ice towers have limited range even when fully upgraded so I most often place them in corners.

3. Using towers twice is really about saving gold. I try to place my towers so that they cover more than one path (remember this is on Easy). An arrow tower placed between the middle path and the gate of Hell will start shooting towards the gate side and if some creatures get past it, it gets a second chance when they come running on the middle path. Of course it's not that you get two towers for the price of one. If there are enemies on both ends the tower will concentrate on the enemy that have come closest to reaching Heaven.

4. When you must spend, try spending only 25% (or so) of your gold. This rule of thumb will allow you to get back most of the investment in two rounds. When I beat the game I have more than 2K in gold when the game advices me to save my gold. And I'm sure I'm still spend way too much (I'm the spending type).

Enjoy. I have had hours upon hours of fun playing this game. And I have lots of hours left now when my focus will be on Medium and then Hard.

I still can't figure out the trick to passing level 30. Level 29 is the one that eats up most of my lives!!!!!

I don't get it, this is on easy right?

I get my butt kicked by the politicians on level 43 (easy).

Also has anyone had luck with the earthquake tower. Never really does much for me and for the money it seems really weak.

I think the quake has quite short range. And you don't need it to beat those politicians. From what I think I can see one fully upgraded tower is better than two towers (of the same type) upgraded only once. One exception might be Ice Towers since their firing rate is always low. Then two half upgraded towers can provide for better hindrance than one full-power in some situations.

firteen: Have you tried my tips yet? I too had troubles with level 29 (and 30 and 31) before I learned to really save my gold. I tend to choke the start of the track first. Ice right outside the gate from Hell an then Ice in every bend of the track from there. I'll take a few screenies next time I play Easy and maybe that can help.
