So do we have any idea how the new panels are looking for dead/stuck pixels? Both the GF and I ordered a new MBP and I have a feeling that ONE of us will be unlucky enough to have at least one, but what's it looking like so far?

I guess if you have stuck pixels you can't right away return it for another one without paying the restocking fee?

(Note: I am NOWHERE near an apple store, in Ottawa, Canada)

Excellent. If there is anything that my Probability/Stats courses taught me, it's to stop reading after as soon as I get the answers I like, independent of my sample size or the experiment variables. :D

I thought I had 1 but it turned out that it was just a piece of chocolate (I think.......). I wonder how that got there....

Well that is great news so far then. This is the one thing I am pretty worried about because I ordered the 17" MBP with High-Res Screen. There are just so many pixels on that thing that I imagine at least one will be dead. But it's good to hear people have none! Please continue the reports (especially if you have a 17" screen).

Well, one of the perks of higher res screens, IMO, is that individual dead pixels become harder to detect.

My 20" Dell 2005fpw screen, which is 1680x1050, actually has 3 or 4 dead pixels, but they are so tiny that I almost never notice them; frankly, I have to actually look really close at the screen to even remember they are there.

Were you expecting that Apple was going to magically address the dead pixel issue that all laptops can have or something?

with LCDs being a common in all things, from cars to your dryer, I would expect some better sort of quality control from the manufacterers.

so yes, i would like Apple to address dead pixel issues as they arise and hopefully replace. But no, not magically :p

To be fair, Asus has a policy of zero dead/stuck pixels for the first 30 days. It would be nice to see Apple adopt a similar policy.

Are they still offering that? I remember they used to mention that on places like milestonepc.com, but I don't see it now.

In some cases I remember it being an option; you could pay $200 extra to get the 30-day 0-stuck pixel guarantee (it was only stuck pixels, not dead pixels).

But I don't see it mentioned on any of the current Asus models. Any idea on that?

I think the problem with any policy like this is that it increases price. It's the reason why they all do normally have to set some threshhold for how many stuck or dead pixels there can be before it is replaced.

For the people in this thread who have gotten a stuck or dead pixel, have you tried calling Apple? I saw some other threads where someone reported that calling Apple directly (not dealing with the local Apple Store) resulted in getting a replacement, even with only 1 dead pixel. Not sure if that works universally or not though.

No dead or stuck pixels here, new 2.4GHz 15" glossy MBP.

By the way, the LCD with the new LED backlighting is heavenly. :)

<--- happy customer

:apple:

had 2 stuck pixels on my 2.2 sr mbp. took it back and said i was not leaving the store until they made me happy. they ended up offering to replace it without a restocking fee and i upgraded to the 2.4.
