As a professional IT guy Mac fanboys crack me up to no end. "I need to install and run all of the latest software because that means it is the best and I get gimmicky features that are so cool that no else has bothered with them until now". Then always the same response...."This latest update that I choose to install on my work computer (with no vetting) so I can be first, broke everything I need for work and you have no idea how important I am, I work in the entertainment industry!" Then they decide they will solve the issue by installing the latest untested OS instead. Haha....good luck with that. If you guys are so worried about your work and how important you are stop installing all of the latest software from Apple. You may be a fanboy, but even you should realize by now that Apple couldn't care less about how it effects you or your work.

When Mojave came out we had a bunch of employees that "consider themselves tech savoy". I watched on the company IM system as they all went back and forth rushing to "Be First" and talking about silly little gimmick changes. Not one of them even mentioned much less discussed if the software they use for work will function with this new OS, but all kinds of talk about everything they read and how awesome this will be and that will be. After these "tech experts" made the decisions on their own and "handled" the update on their own, we end up with a flood of tickets.....You guessed it....after this update this does not work and that does not work, I have a project due, let me drop an execs name and here is a client name as well and oh ya, you also know this is really important because I put "HELP" in all caps as the subject of the Helpdesk ticket.

If the manufactures own updates are not able to reliably install maybe it is not a good idea to install them.

I had no luck attempting to update my unsupported MacPro3,1, but did manage a successful update to a supported mac mini.
I then cloned the mini to the MacPro's HDD and after running dosdude's post install patch my MacPro is finally fully updated.:D

So, I got the "update" notification for update 3 yesterday. Although I had problems with 1 and 2, I decided to try it. It did seem to download, reboot, and install correctly.
HOWEVER, this morning is apparently groundhog day - I have the notification to do the update 3 all over again?????????
What???
I am NOT doing it again two days in a row.
How bizarre.

Same problem on Sierra. I have been staring at a screen with the rotating white weel for a good 20 minutes.

i also had to install update 003 twice. after the first try all seems fine - but it shows update 003 again in the App Store. after restarting my MacBook Pro (2018) 15" it crashed... it took 2 reboots to get it work again. then I did the update again - now it seems fine. no more update available in the App Store, and the update is listed in the installed update section in the App Store.

Jeez - that is what it did to me on version 1 or 2. I think I'll wait a couple of days to see if they come out with a THIRD version of -003.

Yes I have, it seems ok. I had 002 update but had to rollback using a time machine back up as it kept cashing my calendar and safari when browsing, but these issues haven't been an issue so far in the 003 update.

Have you check the build # in the "About This Mac" box?

I had to force a restart (after 4 hours) and all seems well.
The update is installed (allegedly) but I really didn’t like that.

Against my better judgment, I decided to go for it. -003 actually installed no problem, for the second time. Couple of reboots, some fan action, but it seemed to complete ok. Guess we'll see if I get the app update notice again tomorrow!

No one checks the build # so you can be sure, rather "it seemed to complete". I don't understand that logic??????

I'm not sure that showing the correct build number is proof positive of a successful install.
Several times I've received an error message stating that scripts failed but still ended up with the new build number.
I think a better indicator is the update showing as installed on the App store update page and in the installation log.

I am sorry Mr “professional IT guy”, but what is so “gimmicky” about a security update?
At least we get a say as whether we want to install or not, unlike on Windows 10 where it just happens, like it or not.

Jeez. Meaning that unlike people whose computers froze or locked up and required forced reboots, mine seemed to complete the update and re-loaded to its normal screens.

^^^^OK, the key word here is "seemed". Why are you so reluctant to check the build #. It takes all of maybe 3 seconds.

^^^^OK Great - Then there is no doubt, the update is installed. "seemed" doesn't apply.

I didn't install the 002 update, and now I can only see the 003 update on my App Store. Will it just install the 003 update or will it act like a combo update and install both ?

Thanks Lou. I just did the update through the app store, everything went smoothly but I have a question. Why do I only see the 003 update on System report - Software installations? Shouldn't it show 002 and 003?
Also, the download size was just 1,8 GB, which is exactly the size of the 003 update on Apple support website. Shouldn't it have been 2,2 Gb ? (400 MB for 002 plus 1,8 GB for the 003)

Personally I'm not a fanboy, am very careful with updates, back my computer up and take care doing what I do. However, this update messed up my laptop the day before a major event. Fortunately I was able to reinstall and then re-do all my work. But this particular update seems to have caused issues for a large number of people, fanboy or not.

I got the grey no-entry sign after the update on my 2011 iMac. I went into Recovery and then Disk Utility and ran First Aid on the Boot drive. After that it booted fine. Am updating my Time Machine backup now!
