I hear these are blazing fast machines! Not sure if anyone has actually got one yet but if old ones are anything to go by the new ones will be great :D

Got a friend who is thinking of getting one, not sure what's taking him so long! wish he would just order ;)

Our Core i7 2.93GHz arrived yesterday. I'm busily benchmarking it to compare to the 2009 Core i7 2.8GHz in terms of CPU and GPU.

Congratz barefeat. Will be looking forward to your results.

Ah

Can you tell me what it geekbenches?

My Corei7 2.8 ghz geekbenches:

So the i7 2.93 should do better yet.

Mine came in yesterday...has anyone else experienced slow optical drive?

I've been installing Logic Pro, and, so far, I'm running at least six hours...and I'm only thru the first two DVD's...seems incredibly slow.

Barefeats, have you tested the optical drive performance?

Full install of Logic takes a good 12 hours...

:p

Let me know how it goes, and tell us how Logic runs at the lowest buffer setting.

Installed a lot faster than that on my 2006 Mac Pro

Even with it's crappy Optiarc internal optical drive (which I later replaced), Logic installed faster than 12 hours...seems like it took me about 4 or 5 total.

I will report back on performance of Logic once I get it installed and updated. My hope is that it will be a beast...

Ordered my i7/4GB/1TB/5750 today, can't wait! I'll upgrade to 8 GB myself later this month.

Mine is sitting in Grand Rapids. It will deliver Monday. I guess I should probably clean off my desk. :)

Asked around the nearest Apple shops, on the off chance somebody would have stock. But they didn't and werent expecting any in the near future.

So , ordered today , estimated delivery, 13Aug !!
:(

How about you guys ?
Btw I'm in the UK.

I am waiting for it to arrive at my local apple store. The store let me swap my late 2009 i7(bought on 24th June so just over a month old) for the new i7 with no extra charge. The manager told me that the new i7 should be arriving sometime this week.

Ordered one on thursday, also estimated delivery on the 13th of August. Core i7 + 8GB.

The wait is looooong... :)

Logic Pro performance

FINALLY got Logic installed, and loaded up "The Numbers Game" demo song, which is included with the package. Uses at least 5 Space Designer plugs, several AMP designer, and lots of tracks with EQ's, compressors, etc...barely registered on the CPU meter.

Seems these i7's pack a lot of whoomph...

What sample rate are you at, and what buffer size do you have? Also is it better to install everything on the SSD?

Mine comes Tuesday.

Can anyone recommend a file system setup for OSX/Windows?

I have a 2 terabyte/256 SSD iMac coming. I was going to format the SSD half for NTFS, and have OSX whatever it uses. Since I want to read and write on the 2 Terabyte drive in OSX and Windows is there anyway to get around using mac drive? I find that Mac Drive corrupts hard drives and data.

Whats the deal with NTFS-3G? Is that something worth looking into?

Thanks

Windows 7/Boot Camp went like a dream!

Wow! After all the horror stories I've read online about hitches and glitches installing Win 7 with Boot Camp, I can't believe how quick and easy my installation went...used Boot Camp Assistant to partition my internal 1 TB drive, giving Windows 180 GB, then popped in my Win 7 64 bit Professional OEM disk (got it at a local shop that caters to computer builders, around 140.00)...took about 45 minutes, including some restarts, etc...then, popped in the "Mac OSX Install DVD" that came with the iMac (has a gray label), ran the setup.exe, and was pleasantly surprised to find that they had already included Boot Camp 3.1 on the disk. It loaded all the drivers, etc, and...voila! Everything worked...including my iSight and Magic Mouse/Wireless Keyboard!

Looks like someone at Apple has been listening to all the hubbub surrounding the issues that folks have been having up to now with Windows 7 and Boot Camp...

Using 128K for buffer size, 44.1 sample rate...and had low latency mode turned on...this thing is a beast!

Just pulled the trigger, not 20 minutes ago, on a 27" core i7 iMac with the 2TB HD plus the 256GB SSD. Also ordered it with 8GB of RAM from the factory. I know it's cheaper to add it myself, but my company is paying for it (and I mean my company), so I'm not too concerned about the price difference.

Delivers sometime between Aug 5 - 10. I really hope it's the 5th or 6th...

Can't wait!

This will actually be the first iMac I've ever owned. Up to this point, they've all been towers (two PowerComputing towers, a blue & white G3, two different G4 towers, two G5 towers and my current Mac Pro).

Looking forward to a clean desk and silent operation.

Oh, and that GeekBench score posted above... the 9882... My '06 Mac Pro scores only 5300. Yikes!!
