Just got my 27" i7 yesterday and its perfect :)! What programs should I DL? I'm new to mac. I got Handbrake, iSquint, Adium, Vuze, and Quicksilver already

We got our yesterday. I ordered it with the SSD too. As quick and responsive of any Mac I have ever used. The screen is beautiful. So far so good.

Awesome to hear :D , i think its only the first batch which gets made in the US, but i might be wrong , i did notice people gettin em from china now.

anyways Congrats :D

When I ordered mine, I was told that at this time, all the 27" screen imacs will be assembled in the USA because there is some problem with the larger screen not being able to be imported from China at this point. I have no idea why, this is just what an upper level manager from Apple told me.

Sounds like rubbish to me - my 27" i7 is coming from China!

These screen issues... Yellow tint... dead pixels... lcd bleeding... is this things your are noticing with the naked eye, or do you have to do something special with it?

I was thinking of not doing any tests but simply just have it, and if I saw no problems during 2 weeks of intensive use, using photoshop, doing video editing, watching movies, playing games, itunes, websurfing, iphoto.. I would not look for it, and conclude ths creen is fine?

Serial ATA Drive vs. SSD

I am noticing that many of you have ordered your i7s with the SSD....

As much as I want to do the same, $750 is just too much for my budget right now. I thought I might upgrade to the SSD in the future once they come down in price.

So my question is - if I only get the Serial ATA Drive on my i7, will I still be able to swap it out for a SSD or add a SSD in the future? Or will I run into installation problems later?

Thanks for your advice! :)

So the answer is yes you'll be able to add it later, but it will be a labor of love. Apple decided not to include the mounting brackets for the SSD if you didn't order it with one from the get go.

Ordered mine the 29th of July and still waiting (2.93ght, 16go Ram, 1to + 256SSD + 1to external hard drive OMEGA to transfer PC files to my first MAC)

I used to play WIC (World in conflict) on my PC and I’m looking forward to continue to play it on my Imac.

I'm from Switzerland by the way. (So sorry for my English)

Jo :)

What's the benefit of a Solid State Drive? I don't even know what that is...

It is tremendously faster than a traditional hard drive as well as being potentially more reliable. Hard drives have moving parts and periodically suffer mechanical failure whereas solid state drives (SSDs) have no moving parts and the only way they can "wear out" is if they are re-written millions and millions of times.

In most modern computers the hard drive disk access is the biggest bottleneck in the computer, the SSD can be up to 4X as quick as a traditional hard drive in some tasks.

Does anyone know if/when the Apple Retail stores will be stocking this, as they did stock the previous generation i7 iMac?

Because it’s will be my first IMac I want to know what kind of quick-check I need to do when I will received it.

How to control if there is a problem with the screen? (Yellow or pixel problem)

What are the weak points to check etc. ?

I hope so ;). It's will be my first MAC after 20years of PC.
I'm just a little worried about Imac's problems (Screen problems and hard drive sound etc.)

I hope new Imac (Since end of july) are "ok"

Switzerland is very nice but my dream still to leave in the US ;)

i dont know where you are located but some of the apple stores in NJ are stocking i7 imacs

Ya, it burns my ass. I'm in Colorado and all the local stores are telling me it's online only even though they have tags up for the i7 Macs in the stores.

iMac i7 just went to prepared for shipment at 8:30 Central time. Probably means that it wasn't manufactured in the U.S.??? What do you guys think?

It seems like all the i7's that are getting manufactured in the U.S. do not have any of the normal problems..

Ordered mine (27", 2.93GHz i7, 2TB, stock RAM) yesterday and should get it in a week or so.

Last time I used a Mac was my roomie's original MacIntosh, circa 1984, so I suspect I got a few surprises in store with this one!

I do know Unix really well so I'm hoping that will help me on the admin side of things. Going to do a RAM upgrade myself ... just have to google for some good instructions on how ... there seems to be a lot of different types of memory out there.

Already have a Dell 27" monitor (U2711) so I've ordered a mini-displayport to displayport cable to run it side-by-side on the iMac. Whaddya think? Dual 27's got enough screen real estate? LOL!

Wish this Mac newbie luck... I got me some learnin' to do...

Ordered 31 July. "Out for delivery" today! To excited been one long week of waiting.
I'll post up when it comes and run a couple of tests.

Two 27" screens! thats just madness.

New i7

I just got my new i7 today!

I got a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen! Yay!
