Just took delivery from Apple this morning! Had it delivered at my workplace so obviously had to plonk it on a desk and boot'er up.

Well heck it's a nice looking machine - a lot better in the flesh than on the pictures! The 5K screen is absolutely sensational. The attention to detail with the whole unit from the whole unboxing to powering up just shouts premium - there's nothing about it that visually says "I'm old tech!"

Can't wait to get home from work and have a play. My 32Gb of crucial arrived in the post yesterday as well so perfect timing!

iMac 27" Late 2015 model
i7
512Gb SSD
395X 4Gb
8Gb RAM
Magic Keyboard and Trackpad
Magic Mouse

First impressions are high. :)

what do you plan on doing with a 395X 4GB? Just curious :)

lol bratch they are great for graphic design and heavy photography.

One could ask, tongue in cheek of course, what do you plan on doing with the Apple Watch.
Wow, what's up your butt? I'm genuinely curious. I like to hear how others find the need to push hardware.

Plus, to throw your sass back at you, I wasn't asking you.

Why bring your negativity into a new owners thread? This is supposed to be a positive thread. Get over yourself.

The aesthetic design is a little dated to me, but still looks better than most if not all PC all-in-ones. The 5K display is really the biggest selling point of the iMac though. Congratulations.

In what way is the design a little dated?
What else could you do to it apart from making it thinner and having a smaller chin.

The main use for the machine will be FCPX with approx 6-8 camera/audio angles. I'm only working with 1080p, but that might change to 4K in the next year or two.

TBH I don't know if a 395X will make any noticeable difference to my use case but given I'm coming to the iMac party late into the product cycle decided to go all in - I wont be upgrading to another iMac within the next 3 years probably longer. The only thing I didn't max out on was the SSD. 512 is plenty of space to do what I need, the 1Tb wasn't worth the increase. I already have a qnap NAS for storage.

Also whilst I'm not really much of a gamer anymore I wouldn't mind playing the odd game of starcraft 2 if the machine can handle it - the 395x might give it a few extra precious FPS.

I'm sure that will see you through the next few year's just fine...

I got nearly the same configuration just last week (395 2GB and 1TB SSD), couldn't wait longer for a theoretical "soon" release as it's a work machine and I'm absolutely loving it and just wish I had done it sooner.

Congratulations you got a great machine. I personaly didn't find a performance difference between the M395 and the M395X although having the M395X will give it better resale value. I just hope you don't hate the Magic keyboard and mouse as much as I do because I hate recharging them. :D

Buying the higher end iMacs, whilst a dearer at first, makes them much easier to sell after whatever period you keep them for. The i7 and 4GB gfx cards and at least 16GB of memory is a huge attraction to buys in the second hand market.

For mine appen1 it is a bit of a nuisance charging each night, but a lot cheaper than buying quality lithium batteries!

Nah you really don't need to charge those each night? I can't even recall how often I charge them (don't use the mouse, just charge that when it's empty because, well I hate empty things lol), but the magic trackpad and keyboard are used all day and I really don't need to charge them each night. Think I charged the keyboard last week and it's still at 99% now.

Love the 27" iMac, the screen is fabulous. I also have the 12" Macbook 2015, but I use it solely as a companion for when on the go. It's perfect for that :).

Enjoy your new purchase!

I have the same machine just with the 1TB SSD. I have heard the 1TB is faster but I don't know by how much or if it matters. I believe if you need more space you could easily use a external SSD on USB3 or thunderbolt2 and be just fine.

The CPU, GPU and memory combination makes for a sweet machine. I love mine so much. It's very capable and has a great display.

The only thing I worry about is while playing Witcher2 on it the GPU overheated and I saw major artifacting. That was after several hours of game play. My suggestion is to be careful about the ambient temperature to mitigate it.

My iMac sleeps at night so just plug them in and let recharge.

The larger the SSD the faster it is supposed to be, but I wonder if you would notice the difference in real terms? I am very pleased with my 2016 iMac, purchased late '17 and I keep them three years and as stated always buy the i& and 4GB gfx.

I know you will be thrilled with your new iMac czerney!

I am sure it will come out this year
We will not I have 100% proof of it through a couple different channels, I was told by both a apple employee and a family member who doesn't work for apple but they do contract out stuff to him.

2018 will be the earliest we can even expect to see a new iMac and frankly we don't need to rush another out, current hardware is perfectly good.

Have you read the front page lately? Apple annouced they're coming out with a new iMac this year.

Well idc what they say because apple personally told me otherwise, so if thats true then they are probably lying to consumers.

A store employee doesn't know anything and a contractor wouldn't know future plans either.

Read the front page. It came directly from Phil Schiller himself. I think he knows better than anyone.

No I'm not talking about a store employee I spoke to one of the engineers of the iMac. The guy who gets paid to make them and he's saying No so I trust him more than anyone else on the forums.
