Ok, I knocked this up whilst watching the F1.
The stand is similar to the Wacom Cintiq stand which allows angle and rotation adjustment.
There are a few things I could change but I didn't spend much time doing it.

I'm sorry, I'm really confused by all this talk of angles and sharp corners, could we have some more pictures please, to illustrate what kind of angles you're talking about please?

I'm not getting this whole multitouch, low slung wedge shape fetish going on here.

Why would anybody want to use a computer that requires them to keep their arms and hands in the air?

And look how much space a 24" wedge lying flat on your desk would waste? And talk about neck strain!

I think this is the stupidest idea I've ever heard, and this is a horrible implementation of the stupid idea. Mutli-touch computer? That's trying way too hard to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

Mmmm Bartelby's is yummy. :D

I think that's the general look, but I believe it will be more of a "mold" form factor. Meaning it almost looks as if it is one piece. The hinge on the back is kinda ugly, and yes the corners need to be smoother.

Yeah, have a look at the Cintiq mount. It's a little sleeker.

Yum yum.

If I bought that, it would be rendered inoperable within days, because I'd be licking it...

But I think even thinner, and black, with even more rounded corners, like the iPhone. The stand will fold away, so you can shove it in your bag, carry it around, pull it out on the train, and do stuff.

It will also only weigh 1.5 KG, and be a smallish widescreen LCD (10, 13.3, 15?). Solid state HD, super slimline DVD burner (Blu-Ray maybe?), bluetooth so you can connect a keyboard and mouse.

Will be available early 2010.

About time someone thought logically about multi-touch Macs. Talk about major strain on your arms.

Honestly--I don't get it.

How could it lay flat when it would smash the cords in the back?

How will it not strain your arms when it is at a worse angle then what I implemented in my design? (My design is at the perfect angle--it is basically an extended keyboard (yes it is at a keyboard's angle). If you put a keyboard in front of the computer it would work great. It also would work well for drawing on with a stylus.)

It is more un-Apple in form then my updated design (posted here) because it doesn't have round edges it only has sharp edges (Apple uses both on all of the hardware of theirs that I can think of (including iMac, iPod, MacBook, Mac mini, AirPort Extreme, :apple:TV)).

How is that design Apple-like? It looks like something Dell would make but I couldn't imagine Apple making something like that. Its form doesn't make since for it to function properly.

How will my design strain a person's neck? It is better than looking straight down at papers on a table. Plus current research has shown that a slight bend in the back is better than a perfectly straight back.

How is my design a poor design again? Seriously I don't get it.

Simple funnels for the wiring would probably be the easiest solution or a single cable and break out box.

Um looking down all the time would put additional strain on the neck - look up rsi for computers. Also look at the height you have to raise your hands to work on it which according to your models is nearly 2" which significantly more than the 15mm usually associated with a keyboard.

Really - Apples designs are minimalist and in some respect monolithic (ie slab like). A wedge is neither especially in the format you have it.

Um neither does yours.

But the back isnt what is going to be bent, its the neck as said in the other thread take a look at ergonomic design and you will see what we mean.

How is my design a poor design again? Seriously I don't get it.

From a trained product designer (me) - not aesthetically pleasing, no understanding of ergonomics or the practicality of using the device. And last one from me - its not "Apple"

When I think of a touch-screen iMac I imagine something similiar to what we have today but simply with a better stand. The new stand would have to allow more movement. So somehow it could hold the iMac in the same position as it today but then also move downwards and forwards so you could look at it from more of an angle.
I guess yeah it would be like the iMac G4 except with a lot less movement in comparison(no side to side). Just maybe a track for the stand to swivel on the iMac.

How many people look straight down at papers on a table? Most of us pick them up and read them at near-vertical, exactly the same angle we normally set our computer screens at. A slight bend in the neck wouldn't be a problem, but when your design is laid on it's longer base the user would have to be standing virtually over it to see the LCD screen, and therefore the bend would be a lot more than slight.

Don't get me wrong. The design is a good effort and you've obviously thought it through, but there are still a number of problems that need resolving before it's anywhere near up to releasable standard. Have you added the cable groove I suggested to the drawings?

right as I posted this in the other thread may as well increase my post count here too :)

ok as were doing designs for the new multitouch imac its clearly going to be in the future a bit :)

so flat panel displays can be made into any shape we like and the jobs halo/magnetic/levitation effect has been perfected and transferred to apple products *

Design is curved (not perfect curve was very quick and more to show idea) to allow for keyboard in a familiar place and also to take into account the motion of the arm when seated so that the whole screen can be touched from a seated position.
Curve also allows for natural head movements when viewing the screen.

Design styling takes cue from iPhone, ie silver with gloss black display when not in use. No cables except maybe power due to wifi, bluetooth and wireless usb being standard.

*I know it needs a stand but I couldnt be bothered to add it, I only spent a couple of minutes on it :)

leviG -----

what program are you using to make those designs?

That was done using solidworks 2007, a windows only program which costs several thousand pounds to buy , but its a specialist program which allows for basic stress analysis etc as well.

A similar mac program is alibre design express (its cross platform and has some additional features but lacks others to solidworks too)

Godbless (the original poster) I believe wanted this to be serious. But basically they have already done a thread (bit further down on the same section) on this already. As to my design - more of a laugh than anything.
