There is a NEW product being launched tomorrow that is being described like an iMac but it isn't. I have a friend that works for a distributor and they just received it but as always it is covered and sealed.

I wouldn't bother trusting him, it's clearly bull.
An isolated 3rd party distributor? please.
If Apple is looking to re-invent the iMac, there'll be a press conference for which there will be a weeks notice.
They might try and get product to distributors for the day of the announcement, but they won't put it out in advance.

Did they do that with redesigned Mini? No. Did they do that with previous update which was fairly significant? No.
It looks like Apple is moving towards silent announcements in Macs because there is no MacWorld anymore
It seems that events are going to be only focused on iOS for the most part. The only way we will get one for the mac is when they announce the next Mac OS at WWDC or if they decide to show off iLife/iWork like they have done in the past. I think this might change though in the future.
Issue with iLife and iWork is that they were usually updated in MacWorld. Now that Apple doesn't participate anymore, there hasn't been an update. I'm sure Apple will update it but when?
My point was not about a vanilla upgrade which is exactly what the mini got. Also since the mini was first introduced it's never gotten any Jobs onstage RDF.
The thread starter is suggesting it's an all new iMac, not a tweak of specs. Every major redesign of the iMac, whether it was from bubble to anglepoise or to fat chin white picture frame or even the current almost perfect aluminium picture frame has gotten the SJobs love.
Significant redesign = Press conference.
All I can say is he told me when the New Macbook Pros came in and they were released the next day also. Not sure if it is an iMac. When they deliver a product that is new or being updated in a significant way they have someone from Apple there to make sure it doesn't get opened until it is supposed to. The only thing he told my friend was "It's like an iMac but its not". Guess we will see tomorrow, take it for what its worth.

Apple has done plenty of mac pr updates outside of Macworlds.
27" iMac, 13" Unibody Macbook pro, 15" Unibody Macbook pros, Aluminum iMacs, plus numerous others i can't be bothered to look up.
The stuff that was updated at Macworlds was iLife, iWorks, Apple TV and Powerbooks, maybe the 17" unibody macbookpro (can't remember for sure).
October 2008 was the last time Apple held a press event just for Mac update. 27" iMac was silent update even though it was significant. Before iToys, Apple did press events for Macs but now iToys have stolen the press events. Unless there is major change in design or something else (e.g. touchscreen), I doubt we'll see press event for iMac

Bull, desktops and laptops are mature products, their form factor as perfect as Apple can get them. When Apple has something signficant to talk about they'll do an event.

Whether Apple holds a press event or not has nothing to do with do they care about Macs or not. I never said they don't. It just looks like Apple isn't holding press releases for Macs even though the update was quite significant e.g. 27" iMac, Nehalem MBPs with auto GPU switching and redesigned Mini, all those were more than the regular CPU, HD and RAM bump but they still didn't get any spotlight.
Apple does care about Macs, Steve has said that several times. Previous updates have been outstanding IMO, all adding great features and there is more to come! Just give it some time
There has been a mac refresh every month for the past few months so I wouldn't be surprised if this turned out to be true. Right now has been about the right amount of time between releases.
Ain't going to happen especially a total redesign when the new iMac gets released the design will have minimal changes like between the 2007 model and 2009 model next years iMac is a different story maybe jobs might introduce a radical change like that of the iPhone 4 at WWDC as most major iMac revisions have received jobs sales pitch.
It's true that they received something from Apple my questions is what is it? What is an iMac but isn't? My friend also said the box's were more rectangle than square from what he could see but that doesn't mean anything since each box could have multiple items in it.

Apple did update Mac Pro, iMac and Mac Mini on March 3, 2009. I'm not really buying that Apple would update them with couple weeks difference, especially since there is no stuff to wait for, although it is possible. I guess we'll see tomorrow...
There was iLife/iWork '08 at a Special Event in August 2007.
