How exactly was it more usable?

The only thing that changed is the color, the layout is exactly the same.

Black text over the orange texture makes things a little harder to read, in my opinion. The original bar made things a little less 'strenuous', for lack of a better term.

The problem that I have is that Apple seems to breaking away from their Human Interface Guidelines that every developers on the Macs platform follows. The sooner they do this, the more likely the third party apps are going to not follow it either. If every apps looks completely different, then it's going to be harder to get used to how things work on the Mac platform. Consistency is the number 1 thing that Mac OS X does successfully and if we break away from it, it's going to look ugly overnight.

Apple broke away from consistency years ago, but only in terms of appearance. Apple is still functionally consistent (for the most part,) which is what the HIG is concerned about. iCal's look is just a theme.

John Gruber has an excellent talk here called the "Gap Theory of UI design" which covers this and you may find interesting.

Yup, same thing here. Really annoying when you're used to not being bothered by flash.

Although, since the fullscreen option in quicktime is gone when playing embedded h264 clips since DP1, I find myself activating flash on embedded clips. Anyone know if it's possible to activate the fullscreen button in qt player?

The new "ClicktoFlash" 2.2.4 build works fine. Installed and doubled clicked on a flash movie, engaged it and played. Check out the website.

Regarding the launchpad... I can't remove applications anymore...
When I click "option" the icons get to "shake" but there is not X sign to click to delete the app... they just wiggle and can't be deleted.
Any of you the same?

Also very difficult to move them around...

In my experience launchpad was working better on preview 1!

Ideas?

Hold control, alt (option) and command and then click on the app, it will disappear, but not be deleted.
:)

That's changed in DP2. The "Alt/Option" key is all that is needed, however neither removes/deletes apps unless there is an "x" iOS-esque option in the upper left hand corner of the icon. So the only thing that it seems you may do is move apps and delete only a (random) few.

Seriously?! You installed it, tried it once and concluded it's working and wrote this post?

I have had 2.2.4 for a while, and its working randomly on random elements.

Wow, relax champ. I didn't state it is working for everyone, I simply stated it is working for me. I've been using it since its release, no issues. Doesn't hold true for everyone so don't read into my statement.

i can't delete emails using the icon in iMail in fullscreen mode. doesn't response, therefore i need to do right click delete to get rid of an email

btw is "Hotspot Shield" working for anyone? it thinks i'm running a powermac :-/ sucks being not able to view foreign videos ^^

Might have misinterpered your post, I read it as you hade just installed it and and tried it once, then made your comment based on that.

I'm really really frustrated that C2F doesn't work for me, since flash is heavy and annoying. :/

Same here, backspace button does the trick for me though.

New leather gradient found in iCal as of the software update earlier today is below...looks better.

Also, Apple is now forcing apps to use the iOS scroll bars, so even if they haven't been updated, you'll see the iOS scroll bars, but with a container around it.

No worries :) One of the downsides of online/email communication, misinterpreted tone. We've all been there (my friends joke WWIII will begin by a misread email or text lol).

Sorry C2F isn't working for ya. Just before the recent small update, Safari was a big issue for me. It wouldn't let me online so I began using FireFox 4. Now it seems to be ok.

OT, in "Launchpad" if you hold the "Shift" key down while clicking on a folder it does the same slow motion animation as "Shift" clicking on windows minimized/maximized to the dock. Also, only the "Option" key is needed to alter icons, not the three keys previously mentioned (although I still cannot delete empty folders or even icons/apps now).

I agree. I find the inconsistency bizarre. Especially for Apple.

I think these are just previews; not final versions.

This is just to get an overall opinion from forums, discussions and developers.

Except for the already showcased features; everything is bound to change.

Maybe a major UI overhaul; I am not counting on that; but anything is possible.

We are not even beta yet.

It feels like a lot of bugs were ironed out, but now I'm facing a few new ones. First off, when a site displays the Adobe Settings Manager asking if I want to allow it access to my mic it doesn't allow me to click it. Also, in iChat it says "None Found" for my default IM client. Previously, it had said Adium which I found odd since I haven't had Adium installed for months.

Thank you for telling me that. I didn't know.

If you check out the previous Mac OS X DP and betas, they have a fairly consistent GUI, even in cases when the GUI in the final release is totally different. There is no denying that Apple are moving away from their consistency with Apps and the GUI and moving towards a more app dependant look.

It is so cute when people new to this Apple beta game speaks. They are so full of hope.
