That and, for most apps, it’d be ugly. As a developer, I’ve experimented with a dark interface in my app, and my first instinct was to go as dark as possible with true black. Because, well, why not?The most you‘ll get in terms of dark mode is dark greyish designs. You‘ll never see pure black themes because the OLED smear is annoying.
Dark-blue/gray are good-enough to not kill your eyes in a dark environment. It doesn't have to be only 'true black', just remove all that whiteThat and, for most apps, it’d be ugly. It was hideous. Try applying true black in other apps and it doesn’t pan out much better.
“Dark mode” is ultimately purely about aesthetics, and that’s fine. People expecting Apple to do this for battery life—if they ever do it—are in for some sore disappointment.
I love the concept, but I know it takes much more work to implement these things across their entire product line. I have no problems with iOS 11 as is, the only thing I am looking for in iOS 12 is dark mode and better notifications.
I can see it now:
- Apple adds dark mode to iOS 12
- Users rejoice until they realize you can't see the screen in the sun.
- Users ask for a control center toggle for Dark mode because it's too much of a headache to go to settings each time to turn it off.
- Apple implements the toggle
- Users toggle Dark mode on and off all day long when going indoor and outdoors.
- Users ask for an "automatic" day/night detection feature to automatically enable/disable Dark mode.
- Apple implements the change
- Users complain why Dark mode needs to know your location (to determine when it is light and dark).
TLDR;
iOS 6 was smart design, we just didn’t realise it.
iOS 7 - today = awful design, we are just now realising it (although I came to this immediate conclusion on June 10th, 2013).
Who is « we » exactly? I prefer the iOS 7+ design over the iOS 6 one and this have been the case since its unveiling in 2013.

More like bring that option back (along with different ways to sort notifications).Please just give us group notifications.
