Apple is making money by cutting the costs of the production of these devices. It's not a secret. Thus the quality is degrading, I wonder if 2021 iPad would break in pieces in the first day.

Same - backlight bleed in the same location. I wonder what's causing it? Until its fixed in production I think this issue will stay.

I also think it may be specific to the 256GB Sky Blue option.

Why would outer shell color and storage cause the issue?

Can someone post a picture of a “normal” or acceptable screen? Not sure what these pictures are comparing to.

Letterbox movie, full brightness, dark room. Is this a "normal" screen?

I have got 2 of the 64GB in space grey. Both purchased at same time from same shop and both have this issue in the same place. We are returning them to the shop and it’s now put me off buying any more! It was part purchased with love2shop vouchers so I think the store will now give me a gift card for their store. Was meant to be a present to myself, was given the vouchers as worked for same company for 20 years. Feeling upset and disappointed with Apple.

I decided to keep mine as the device is perfect otherwise. Since it’s a manufacturing issue you can always get it replaced for a new one when the issue is fixed in a few months.

If...if it is acknowledged and, consequently, fixed. But considering the so-called “white spot problem” that some have reported here, I would not hold my breath. That said, Apple did just a day or so said that some of their recent AirPods may be malfunctioning, which they will fix. So...!

Same here. I wonder if the “Liquid Retina” tech in the iPad is also a stripped down or less-quality version “‘for savings’/profit for Apple.” Also remember photographs bring out more light than what’s actually there, so it looks 1000x worse. I think Apple’s QC has of course dropped even further than 2019 (due to obvious reasons/conditions.) My worry here is that this “Liquid Retina” technology on the iPad airs isn’t quite the same as what is on the iPhone Xr and 11 and iPad Pros 3-4. Also Apple would see this as a non issue as most customers won’t notice.

Looks about right. Do those who are complaing about light leaks see it in the black bars in the situations like in these photos? If yes, that sounds pretty bad and definitely annoying.

We took ours back to the shop we purchased them from (John Lewis in the UK) and it was a complete palaver. They wanted to check both ipads for this leak themselves, said they needed to see the fault for themselves, even though they really had no idea what they were looking for. They kept saying they couldn't see it on either ipads. They took the ipads off to a dark room but refused to increase the light setting from the factory reset. They kept saying because we'd opened them and they couldn't see the fault they couldn't refund us. Suggested we take it to the local Apple store for them to test and say yes they were faulty, and then for us to bring them back to John Lewis. We stood our ground and in the end they gave me back the full amount, part in gift vouchers and rest of my card (as this was how it was paid for). They even said because we'd used them, even though we'd factory reset them both before taking them to the shop, they would need to send them to a company and pay for them to do a data wipe! My partner said this wasn't right.

This is exactly why I always buy directly from Apple. No hassle returns. These resellers can go screw themselves. Glad you got your money back.

Just wondering if this is just a basic limitation of edge lit LCD. I haven't noticed this on my 2018 Ipad 11Pro, but I also don't display a black screen and turn the brightness to full in a dark room. Isn't that kindof a worst case scenario for LCD tech, atleast one that is not full-array backlit?

Do you guys or gals see this in a normal everyday setting using your ipad?

It's not noticeable in any situations other than a black image.

Oh ok...in that case I would say that to just not look for issues if you don’t normally see them or they don’t detract your enjoyment of the ipad. Ofcourse, some screens may be more extreme than others, in which case you can make a judgement call. I would use that return time period liberally to test it out in day to day use.

I typically never watch movies on my ipad in the pitch black, so I can’t say I’ve ever noticed this on any of my 6 or 7 ipads I’ve owned. If I was to crank the brightness to max in the dark, maybe I would have seen something.

Exactly. After getting the replacements with the same bleed I realised I was making such a big deal out of something I couldn't even normally see. Apple has a good warranty program, so if it becomes a bigger issue I can return for an exchange any time within a year (manufacturing will probably fix it in the coming months).

Had this problem with older iPads, getting 2 x 2018 11" pro's solved it. All the photos in here would be a instant return for me.

Good luck with that given the white spot problem with iPads 10.5, Apple won’t acknowledge that issue .

Just checked mine and I do have a little bleeding near the pencil but honestly? It’s only visible when I blow it up to 100% brightness in complete darkness which I would never ever use anyway unless I want to get blind. I usually have it around 30 or 40% in the dark and I don’t see it. The photo actually makes it worse than it is but I’ll add it anyway

Went out of my way to view a black image in full screen in a dark room, saw a tiny bit of bleeding but it’s hardly noticeable. Definitely not worth worrying over for me.
