Well, there's a difference between being uninformed and lying.
The OP didn't lie.

He never said he works for Apple and he can tell you that the announcement would definitely, without question, be the 14th.

He said he had credible information that he believed indicated an April 14th launch, and even said "You can choose to believe it or not up to you and ultimately we will find out if its true in a couple of days".

It was turned into some kind of official promise by some of the people replying to the thread.

We don't expect a Promise but did the op have to go and disappear ?

speak for yourself. There's a difference between expressing an opinion and claiming to have some hidden knowledge when they don't. I do a lot of the former, but never the latter.
My opinion this guy dumb for falling off the face of the earth when his rumor didn't pan out like big deal no one cares really. Idk why you gonna speculate only to disappear and not come back and laugh at how you got it wrong. Some people take this stuff too seriously i guess

But, he may, I repeat, may, have considered he had inside knowledge. I guess none of us will know for sure though will we?

It makes me wonder if there really was something planned but they cancelled it at the last minute and decided to just quietly update the non-pro iPads.

I disagree. The OP's comments fit the classic trolling/attention-getting pattern. There was a lack of humility. There was boasting of having "knowledge", "can't divulge my sources", and then a challenge to anyone who doubts. The fact that he didn't reappear on the 14th says a lot.

I give folks the "benefit of the doubt"... but only when there is something to doubt. I have no doubt here.

You are free to believe that he honestly thought he had an inside scoop, or that the original date was true but something unexpected happened to cause a change to this mysterious date... or even believe that because the date was leaked that Apple decided to change the date in order to keep the element of surprise.

Only thing true about 14th was the crap launched in India, op could've been Indian and mistaken that for the new iPad Pro

Yes, all valid points.

The fact that the OP did not return to clarify things says much.

Is that why he hasn't been back since? He was so eager to spread his inside info. He couldn't even come back at all near the 14th or afterwards to clarify. He was online yesterday and he hasn't posted since March 31st. Why not come in and say, "My bad, guys. I got that one wrong." He stopped pushing once he got the car rolling downhill, towards the cliff.

He lied.

No he didn't.

Whether you like it or not, not responding to this thread after the 14th does not make him a liar. He did not say that he knows for certain that new iPads are coming on the 14th. If he did, he would have been lying.

He didnt lie but he was wrong.

And I can only imagine he is avoiding this thread due to the backlash from those who thought this was some kind of official promise, those that are still complaining about it in the thread.
Although I don't know why he hasn't closed this thread by now.

Ladies and Gentlemen. Mesdames et Messieurs. Meine Damen und Herren.

I give you.... the much heralded, April the 14th launch:

There are two ways of looking at this, and the truth (FWIW) is somewhere in the middle, I suppose:

1. He's a liar, intentionally misleading the Macrumors community and all that wanted to believe him, and is sitting at home, in his mother's basement, giggling as he (or she... we're talking about a liar, right? Even though it said that he was a he, s/he is trying to throw us off) has a 2nd username and feeds the story to 27 pages of point/counterpoint.

2. He's a well-meaning misinformed telco employee that saw a bunch of items around the office, and decided to put it here, and is embarrassed at the $#%#storm created here and doesn't really want to come back to "face the music." Due to confidentiality agreements between himself and his employer, any more info may make it easier to find out who he is, and doesn't want to give up $4,000,000 that he'll earn over his lifetime to come back and give more info that would help track him down.

Either way, it doesn't matter. If this is so important that you get all wrapped around the axle and are either looking for a public humiliation or beating, or want this person to explain, in detail, where they went wrong, then, I fear, your deep involvement in this story needs more help that this guy (or girl) does.

What will your quest for a piece of meat get you? Nothing. It won't even stop the next troll that comes along. What will continued faith in this person get you? Again, nothing.

So, while I still want to believe, the facts are that it isn't coming out on 4/14/17. My life is going on.

Can't believe this thread is at 27 pages and is still being debated 3 days after the 14th! It didn't happen, time to move on.
Yet, you keep coming back...

(I saw your like on the failed mortar post... :D )

However, he did say he would be back, didn't he? Yep, He did.

So basically the OP pulled a Trump......this is the world now folks , enjoy. Not even the world of Apple is safe. Haha

I think it's safe to say there will be no new iPad pros anytime soon as Apple is advertising it for Mothers Day next month.

It can still happen!! You just need to believe! Now that I think about it, maybe he meant the 14th on a non-Gregorian calendar...I need to research that.
