It's pretty obvious to me that the iPad appears so much easier to bend, appears to use less effort at bending it.
Exactly. You can actually see him shaking trying to bend the Surface and then he states the fact that it's kickstand helped it.

Anyway, for as long as an Apple device loses a comparison here, people will try nitpick. Plenty of Androids have failed the bend test and people moved on, the iPad Pro fails and it now needs to be more scientific love it.

I hope for Zack's sake the next Apple product he tests is built properly with no clear weak points.

This image confirms the kickstand saved the Surface Pro. You can see that the device itself would have bent like the iPad Pro, but luckily it has that metal kickstand giving it some rigidity.

Yeah for sure.

But saying the iPad was put under greater stress is just wrong, those photos show this.

Depending on which frame you isolate, there is more or less pressure when bending it.

Anyway, the screen on the Surface cracked so easily there really is no reason to debate bending, which is less likely for either device.

I gotta say after a few days with the new iPad Pro 11..I really enjoy this device. The form factor is great and the speed is amazing. But i would not use the iPad without a case. It is so thin I would worry about it bending.I would never have had that thought with my iPad Air. My new one is the 11 inch model....I can't imagine the 12.9 model and being that flat and thin a device.
The sound on this thing is amazing! The performance is awesome!

OMG he's so biased. It's not even scientific since he had something different for breakfast this morning. Personally hurt by this. Bye...

You are bias, show us scientific evidence of your opinion of needing a case

This is not scientific, he is bias against Android to! He is bias against everything

But in all honesty, that goes to show the level at which Samsung has engineered their Curved displays vs. Huawei, it is an unfortunate result, but at least the device requires quite a bit of force before the display cracks, however I'll be more careful with it, thankfully it comes with a Case in its box to

He did point out that it cracked where he had done the deeper scratches with the mohs picks, so it seems a deep scratch that weakens the glass + bending would not end well.

A Surface Pro with cracked screen is still useful since you can connect an external display, keyboard and mouse. With the toy iPad you're SOL.

Really loving my 12.9” as well. It handles probably 95% of my daily personal computing needs, which obviously aren’t super robust. Here’s hoping Apple actually lets loose a bit and at least enables native plug and play functionality for the usb-c port so we can access external storage without the need of some third party app. Being able to move files of any type on or off, at least through the Files app, would make this a much more viable computer replacement option for many.

Otherwise, super happy with the performance. Also, this is how FaceID should work—any orientation please.

I haven’t really kept up with this thread. I don’t usually base my purchase decisions on durability tests if I can find a good strong case. I know this iPad would never survive in my home if it’s naked. But when they come out with rigid sturdy cases for it that’s the game changer.

Zack bent the hell out of the Pixel 2 and I still bought it. It’s in a good case and doing fine.

I would really like to be able to hook up an external drive and Bluetooth mouse.

I'm looking at one of these
