I do use iPad Pro for music practice and audio processing most of the time. I also use audio interface for desktop situation. I just don't want to have to remember to bring any, I mean any, dongles when I use iPad Pro as a music production tool.
Small surprises bug me too. For example, Rode Rec app does not allow 96KHz recording for iRig Pro. Rode said the iPad Pro (2017) does not have sufficient audio A/D power.Nope, I agree, but I'd use one for casual music listening if I needed to.
We have to remember a bag of cables when we go remote recording, one more probably won't hurt.
Because wired headphones would never go away and as a result Bluetooth headphones would take much longer to come down to an affordable price point. The pace of innovation would slow. Without constant innovation everything becomes commoditized and Apple wouldn’t be able to sustain fat margins.
Don’t think of dongles as a permanent solution. Think of them as a rickety bridge to the future. Once cross you the bridge (i.e., buy yourself some good Bluetooth headphones) you don’t need the bridge anymore.
Don’t talk high fidelity when using iTunes or hell even the iPad. All it’s audio is compressed. Even GarageBand on iPad uses mp3 audio. High fidelity and idevices are a joke. Even if you play flac files it’s still compressed playback through the DAC on the old headphone jack.Of course there are wireless options. For higher fidelity or technical usage you'll have to use the dongle/converter. I do miss the headphone jacks on iPhones and iPads, but luckily for my main use I use wireless and would not want anything else. Still out of principle this is really bad of Apple.
If you buy an iPad with no headphone jack, how can you watch a movie on an airplane with a friend/husband/wife ? Now I’m using an adapter with the headphone jack where we connect our headphones. Does it exist something wireless?!?
