4X gpu wise it's a beast and what I love it that my Air 2 isn't even really slow to begin with :D

My Air 1 has started feeling distinctly sluggish on the latest iOS 10 releases, especially home button responsiveness. Boy, am I in for a treat on Tuesday when my 10.5" Pro arrives. The CPU and GPU performance leap from my A7-based Air, and not even an X variant of the A7 because this was the generation before Apple started doing that for the iPads, is going to be stunning. Excited!

Sort of unrelated, I know. https://browser.primatelabs.com/ios-benchmarks
But these bench marks show that the iPhone 7 is more powerful then the original iPad Pro... damn, those fusion chips are powerful.

I remember when the first iPad Pro came out Engadget predicted that we wouldn't see anything as powerful as the A9X in something smaller than the 12.9" iPad for quite a while... I guess they were wrong about that... it's amazing how fast technology progresses lately! :)

So that's on par with the 7th gen MacBook Pro 13" with a dual core i5 with a fan wow...

With a fan, but also with a lot more productivity software. I've owned every iPad iteration except the 4th gen 9.7,and 12.9 Pro. Currently w/ 9.7 Pro, 2nd and 4th gen mini. If I could only have one device it would be the 7th gen MB 13 or even an MBA. Apple needs to do a much better job positioning the iPad as a laptop equivalent. Geekbench tests meaningless if functionality is limited. It's like a driving Ferrari on neighborhood streets - assuming the driver is respecting driving laws.

Actually, the iPad Air is the outlier. All the other 9.7" retina iPads (aside from the 2017 budget model) had X variants: 3 (A5X), 4 (A6X), Air 2 (A8X), Pro 9.7 (A9X).

Thermals and power consumption are the likely culprits for not being able to support A7X on the the newer, thinner iPad Air (at least back in 2013).

A7 definetly had some energy efficiency issues.

this is a good analogy. Depending on your platform though, there's some pro apps (or semipro apps).

You can now multitask like a pro :)

I'm very curious as to testing real world performance now. Something I really never did.

Got my 10.5" and put it through its paces on benchmarks. I'm not gonna bother including geekbench scores as we all know them. Here are the 3DMark API Overhead Test Results. The higher number is the 10.5" Pro, and the lower number is from my now sold 9.7" Pro:

If you calculate the results, Apple appears to be just about bang on with its quoted 40% improvement in GPU performance vs the last gen iPad Pro. I know Geekbench Compute has shown the GPU is almost 2x as fast vs the last gen iPad Pro in that test, but this I think is more realistic for gaming performance.

Wouldn't make me get an iPad again but it's really impressive. If they keep these improvements up, imagine where the iPad chips will be in just a few years!

And if someone likes Orange Juice more than Apple Juice then the orange wins. Regardless of your personal view.

You can be fairly confident that his point was that the CPU in the new iPad has performance on par with that of a 7th Gen MacBook Pro with an i5. At least that is what I'm gathering from his post.

And the point is? It could be as powerful as an Intel i7 and my point still stands.... Useless when you're comparing different architectures.

Lol.... Has yet to be used in anything else than mobile.... Microsoft tried and failed. Apple will fail just as much of not more.
I would disagree, how many iOS Devs are there, how many quality apps, how many people using them, anyone with a iOS device. I don't know what your smoking but iOS isn't going anywhere and neither is ARM. Windows failed because they had no apps even the normal apps. No devs no apps= no customers.
