Just uploaded an iPhone leather case comparison to YT. It includes the apple Leather case.

I agree that the Apple case is the best. I'm not concerned about the bottom being open as there is still a small lip so if you place the phone vertical it is still protected.

One word of warning though. Be careful how you treat the Apple leather case. I put too much leather conditioner on my one for my 6s plus and it just felt too sticky. What's the coconut oil that you used?

Finish and quality are quite good on the Apple case, but it's much more slippery than the Jet Black on its own. I feel like this case might lead to more damage than using it naked...

Straight out of the box the Apple case is too slippery but adding the coconut oil gave it good grip. True that it could be too sticky if over done. I just used some random coconut oil from my local natural foods store.

Don't think I'll be adding coconut oil just yet, though I do keep a large tub of organic coconut oil on-hand at all times.

Does it become more tacky over time on its own?

Separate issue: the leather is extremely easy to scuff. Literally just a fingernail and practically no pressure will mar the case. The Apple Store said scuffs will wipe off and that the case is self-healing, though not sure I'm buying that. After just a day of normal use the case does show a bit of wear while my silicone case from last year is in very good condition; though, the leather case does look nicer.

It does become more grippy with time but I find that the coconut oil trick basically speeds the process up. As far as the scuffs, I believe that varies by color. I had a light blue one that scuffed much easier than the black one that I now have. Plus the darker colors will heal faster too.

Only buy from an Apple-authorized reseller. Far too many knockoffs of these on the market.

Yeah, decided not to go with them, seems a little suspect. I found an "open box" verified saddle brown on ebay and should have it next tuesday.

Can someone with a tan leather case post of pic of it after a few months usage? I'm interested in seeing if it gets a patina like the saddle brown. Thanks!

My Storm Grey would get what looked like deep scuffs the day I opened it. It slipped from my armrest in my car to the cup holder (in my car) and it looked like a nice gash came up.
This never seemed to happen to older Apple Leather cases to me.
But I can confirm, using leather conditioner buffed them out.

I just got an open box case from bestbuy that has 3 scratches across it. I looked to exchange it but the new in box in store had a scuff about as bad. After seeing this thread I'm thinking this will wear away.

The scuffs will definitely disappear and it will eventually stop getting scuffed so easily.

That is not a scratch, it's a crease in the leather.

I got my order of 2 7+ Leather Case from Best Buy. (Saddle Brown and Sea Blue)

Both looked like they were ripped into by a 3 year old at Christmas.

Even worse, I opened the Sea Blue (Sea Blue on the case) and there was a scratched up Midnight Blue inside.
Looks like someone wanted a free exchange.

Luckily, Best Buy had both cases in stock to exchange.
Which stinks because I would never have ordered for shipping if they had them in stock (they said they didn't).

So you would suggest a return because of creases?
Well it all depends on the type of leather that they use. I hear that the squirrel leather doesn't have the creases. The rat and shrew leather continue to have concerns.

I tried the refined coconut oil and my case seems to be more grippy now. I have a Storm grey, black, and midnight blue. I would say the Storm grey feels the best now. The Storm grey has always had more of a leather smell than the other 2. The Storm grey smells like leather and the other 2 just have a chemical smell.

It depends what you expect from the leather. The crease marks, unlike scratches, will not disappear with time. I know because I had one that had those same creases for my iPhone 7 in midnight blue. Leather has normal variations but some prefer a clean look so you can exchange it for one that does not have the creases.

Those creases won't go away. I think it gives the phone it's own personality. I have three of the new-style leather cases and think they're wonderful.

I finally got myself a saddle brown case off eBay, it was listed as a Best Buy open box item. It's actually way better than the first case I bought months ago from apple. The first case was extremely slippery and was not uniformly straight along each side. The volume buttons bulged out and overall it wasn't worth even half the price.

This new case has none of those issues and only cost me $30. Now my only question is have any of you dropped yours? I'm coming from a caudabe synthesis which is pretty thin.

I've only dropped my 7+ once and it was while in an Apple Leather Case in Sea Blue. The fall was from my lap onto pavement as I was getting out of my car. The phone sustained zero damage and the case got some scratches on two corners. I didn't like the color so I exchanged it for a black one and the Best Buy employee didn't seem to care about the minor damage on the corners. They were noticeable but not horrible.
