That's the problem with "fashionable" computers - they soon go out of fashion.

One advantage of the "beige box" (and plain laptop) design school is that you keep the computer until its features are no longer adequate.

You don't buy a new one because you're embarrassed to be seen using the older version.

dude, pretty much every post imac mac is timeless, the B&W g3 is what 6 years old sure it looks a little dated but it still looks good in the right setting.

argueing it's better to have something thats always but ugly rather than something that may become but ugly if you the type of person who pays attention to fasion.

btw have you seen any old dells, they are acctually worse than current ones.

Huh? There are no "post iMac" Macs, the iMac is still with us.

Do you mean "starting with the first iMac"?

But in most settings, it looks like a hotel for little blue cartoon characters. Think of a nice office, wood paneling, nice carpeting, leather furniture, and a bright blue Smurf Hotel on the desk. Yech.

IMO the blue LCD screens are pretty fugly in any setting.... It's not just the color, the translucent, wide bezel lets irregular internal details show through - marring the effect. Thanks goodness the translucent fad is almost over -- except where it makes sense, like a steam iron!

Rowenta Surfline, inspiration for the Bondi iMac

And people here call XP's default theme "cartoonish"....

AidenShaw you are funny at times.

I know many folks who use just what you showed in your picture. BTW, the toilet seat iBook is still very popular.

I guess you might ask yourself, if the beige box is so popular these days, then why do almost all build your own outlets have fancy boxes and many ways to accessorize your computer with lights and such.

You crack me up! :D

Well that Studio display doesn't look much different from this

Dell or this

HP.

The Dell and the HP just don't look as nice, that's all.

And one colleague of mine was quite happy that the PM G5 was big enough to completely hide the B&W that was demoted to file server.

Where do you find all these old iBooks - I haven't seen a toilet seat iMac out in public in a long time. Are there some dark Internet cafes with signature flags flying or colorful stickers in the window where TS iBook users meet in secret?

Because teen-age boys unsure about their size will always compensate by tricking their toys to look or go faster.... (older boys too)

Here in Japan it's easy. And the last time I was in the states, saw them as well. Not as many as the new models, but they are still out there.

Heck, I have two buddies here that could have whatever they wanted, but choose to keep their TS iBooks running.

I guess...

Point being is that a few years ago, all you could get were beige boxes for homebuilts. Now it is almost hard to find one.

Then again I live in the land of electronic shops.

I got a 4G iPod and I didn't get 12 hours even when I first bought it  All my songs are 128kbps AAC's, no backlight (unless it's dark) and the EQ turned off. On average I seem to get about 6 hours through a playlist on my iPod. It's about a year old now, and it's the 20GB version.

Sounds about right. So I'd imagine the current iPod with colour screen to get like...7-10 hours of battery life. Not 15.

I love how you take one post and turn it into "Mac zealot" gospel.

As a matter of fact, I know plenty of people who still use their G3s. G4 PowerMacs even more so. Maybe some people like to be fashionable, but most of the time aesthetics of the machine itself are just bonus. We get bored with the same design after awhile, but I don't know anyone who throws out perfectly good accessories because they no longer "match".

For the record, I've always hated the Clamshell iBook... but I'd love to see some color back in the line.

Actually according to some reviews I've read, it's supposed to be better. I have a Shuffle that's supposed to get 12 hours, but I get more than that on a regular basis. If you're getting less than 7 hours of normal use, something's wrong.

yes, but it says K-12 teacher or staff member, not student. if your saying the EDU discount is for High school kids then yea thats right...but i need to know if the "student union" deal for the iPod mini is for high school kids. Which are you talking about?

iPodlounge did some testing on the 20/30GB color screen models and they were actually getting over 17 hours of battery life out of them, so yeah, they indeed do even better than advertised it appears.

Huh.... bash them! I just bought one. This is exactly what I was waiting for.

20GB iPod. Color screen and all. I saw the front page of MR, and went straight to the Apple store. Now that I know the 60GB is... $399, I'm beginning to regret it, however, I saved $100, so that's more money in my pocket.

I'm happy with my purchase. I think I may even get some accessories for it. iTalk and a case possibly. Can't imagine much more than that.

Guy in the Apple store was kinda arrogant. I guess he didn't expect me to have enough money? I dunno...

Heh heh - that reminds me of my experience in the NY SoHo Apple Store when I bought my iPod about a year ago. The sales girl was very friendly and all, but she treated my purchase very indifferently, as if I was buying some commonplace $50 commodity. ;) No complaints at all, just found it amusing.

Nah, no complaints. However, it was kinda weird. I have never been treated that way before... hmm....

Dang this thing is wonderful. It's even better than my PowerBook. :D It's funny feeling the hard drive move as well.... :) I'm getting used to the ClickWheel. Earlier today, I thought I'd prefer the buttons on the previous generations, but I'm liking this a lot.

I think they look pretty cool. If anyone in North Texas wants to part with an old Mac because it's unstylish or even just slow, I'm a poor college kid, and so is my sister, and we'd be happy to take them :)
