…… because an appropriately specced current Mac Mini runs the current software (and likely updates for a good while), and meets the needs of the typical Jill or Joe.

I agree. The Mini is not a performance oriented machine to keep up with Intel's Joneses. Ivy Bridge is good enough for the Mini's intended purposes for now and maybe couple more years. So why change for change's sake??

I know why the new mac mini is delayed.

It's because Apple knows I'm waiting for it and they just want to piss me off. They are all watching in the back room as I struggle with my Mac Pro 1,1 wondering how long I can hold off.

I agree, an all new Mac mini is on the way, maybe soon at wwdc, and have a sort of Mac pro look but smaller and on silver, Apple may also considering high end Mac mini with discrete graphics, but at least is sure we will see a core i7 4770 with iris pro 5300 graphics and some sort of thermal core design and pcie ssd as options

I hope you are right. It seems so, so many people are asking for this build. Let's hope Apple gives us what we want, instead of what they think we want (A thinner desktop! A flat, gaudy OS! Git rid of that Rosetta crap! Save As? Who needs it! etc.)

The cost justifies whatever hardware is the latest. Many people would be served well enough by a Core2duo notebook, yet they are refreshed when new hardware is released. There's also the issue that no hardware is supported forever. The latest generations will be supported longer by their respective hardware vendors.

agreed, which is why i want an updated mac mini and not the 2 year old one. I have a macbook which i bought in 2008, and while it serves my needs, i can't get OSX mavericks (or even lion) on it and therefore i'm missing out on some features and software that I could have if my laptop did support it.

no kidding. i'm there with you. my wife and kids have an old struggling dell that i desperately need to replace. i just bought a rMBP and am loving using it for school. decided to just stay in the mac ecosystem since we have ipads, iphones, and now my rMBP.

but after reading all of these threads, i'm confused as to whether i should just pull the trigger and get the mini and risk kicking myself a couple months later, or just pull the trigger and not worry about it.

Get a I5 refurb from Apple and sell it when the new one surfaces.

You will love the Mini.

Like I have expressed before the new one could come anywhere from June thru next year or never. I think it will come next year with the Broadwell chip along with the IMacs.

It's anybody's:) guess.

eh...my story is a little more complicated. i have about $450 in amazon points and certificates i want to use so i don't think i can get a reburb.

i'll probably just pull the trigger soon and not look back

Well you are in great shape then.

Get yourself a SSD to go with. It makes all the difference.

I bought my Mini in January and bought a Samsung 840 EVO 256gb and put it in a external USB3 enclosure to use as my boot drive.

The reason I didn't put it inside is because I thought I would have a short wait for the new one and I was just going to sell the temporary Mini.

If you don't want to resell then put it inside. It's a fairly easy task and there are plenty of Youtube videos.

no minis available directly from amazon.com and .de for some time now

THIS MUST BE A SIGN FOR A NEW MINI

They are redesigning the exterior and all the components to mirror that of the current Mac Pro

Or, they're sitting on it until they've seen how many people who desperately want a headless desktop Mac but don't really need Xeons or FireGL will cave in and buy a Mac Pro.

Once you can stroll into an Apple Store and stroll out with your Mac Pro configuration of choice, then they might update the Mini.

Not sure that the Mac Pro design concept scales down - it all revolves (literally) around having 3 main circuit boards.

I just bought a mini today. Figured I didn't want to keep waiting and how much better can the new one be for what we'll be using it for?

I would imagine that they'll do a redesign. It'll probably be smaller and simpler than it is, but not be released until the fall sometime.

... It appears that it's not very high in the thoughts of lots of people including the folk at Apple.

This is my conclusion since late last year--there is a serious management issue at Apple.

They only have a dozen or so products. The corporation of Apple is gigantic! It's a huge-huge business with few products and giant revenues.... every product should be yearly improved or updated or addressed. There are no excuses!

Not hyping the lower-end devices isn't a big deal, but they should be doing minor upgrades yearly on everything. Even if they just change colors, change a logo, add options, Apple should be doing the job of selling products and fostering consumer confidence.

The mini is the serious canary in the coal mine.
