Who in the hell would want to spend Mac Pro kind of money to play games?

People pay Alienware, Maingear, Falcon Northwest, etc thousands of dollars for gaming PCs all the time. In higher end gaming PCs it's not uncommon to see two $1000 graphics cards in SLI/crossfire. If the Mac Pro is really that powerful graphically when it is released, I see no reason why it shouldn't be under consideration as a gaming computer.

I want to believe in the "one more thing" rumor. It would be an opportune time to do so. On the flip side >> less is more and the reason for the MP cylinder.

Workstations graphics do not equal gaming graphics when it comes to gaming. Those W9000's had an initial MSRP of $4000 EACH. It is a GIGANTIC waste of money to use workstation class GPU when a gaming GPU is MUCH better suited for the task. Performance is pretty much worse across the board in gaming benchmarks on those Workstation GPU's. Fact. Some would argue it's related to the firmware, but I'm not going to get into that argument.

Those PC's you mentioned are Gaming PC's, and if the user wanted a workstation from those same boutique dealers, the boutique would recommend a workstation class GPU, NOT a gaming GPU. They may spend "Mac Pro" money on a gaming PC, but those people are few and far between, similar to the few and far between pro user who is looking to buy a Mac Pro. They're not the same class of customer and they're not looking at the same equipment. If anyone buys a new Mac Pro for gaming, they need to get their head examined.
