:Dthe MacBook Air. They’re putting the 9400M into the MBA. 4x faster graphics. They’re upgrading the 120GB HDD (up from 80GB), or a 128GB SSD. Also has a Mini Display port.

The new MacBook Airs will be available in early November.

battery?

do we have any idea what the battery life will be? i was kind of hoping we'd see something more than 4-5 hours, but it doesn't look like it.

i'm disappointed they didn't slot the 45nm CPUs in there. would've helped with heat and battery life.

It's going to be interesting to see all the specs on the new MB and compare them to the updated Air, especially weight. I was waiting for an Air with a larger HDD/SSD and wouldn't have considered the MB before, but I might now.

I'm pretty sure those are the 45nm CPUs in the new Air. IIRC, only the 45nm CPUs have 6MB L2 cache like the new Air specs are stating.

Right, they just didn't mention it (odd)

from Apple Air page

processor and memory

1.6GHz or 1.86GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 6MB on-chip shared L2 cache running 1:1 with processor speed
1066MHz frontside bus
2GB of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM onboard

Hmmm. less battery life? The new one says 4.5 hours and the old one used to say 5 hours, right?

There's also a question on wether they somehow managed to shoe-horn in an 8mm (highly doubt it but ya never know)

As the 5mm drives are slim pickins so far.

But for Air fans this is all good news.

(but I did manage to get a 32GB version of the one that's in the present Air on Ebay for about $230US. Some guy is selling these now and that's what there selling for.

32GB is too small but I hate the HD so much I don't care.

Note: (you have to be very careful to get the right version for this. It has a ZIFF connector, but the height also matters and you should use the Manufacturer number to double check that it's 5mm or less, as Samsung makes an 8mm version that's actually sold in more places)

I'm actually very happy about the macbook air update. I think it's the only thing that didn't disappoint. :) bigger hard drives, and better graphics.

Would have been nice or at least interesting to have a glass trackpad but maybe it would have added more weight to it, i don't know.

To be honest though, the new macbook whilst uglier now has backlit keyboard, and LED lighting.

So where does that leave the air?

Since the badly cooled IGP was one of the originators of the juddering of the Air in the sorts of ambients I frequently hang out in (upper 20 - 30C), I can't see the 9400 making things any better. I await problems with interest and a 'Ha-Ha!'

What I really want to know is how these internal changes affect the MBA's heat issue.

Is the MBA more likely to run cooler or hotter?

only update I'm truly excited about

I'm really happy with this update for the air. The macbook and pro have some great power inside them now in my option, but the new design is gonna take a while to grow on me. Thankfully as long as the issue(s) with cooling, etc. have been dealt with, I can't wait to pick up one of the new Airs next summer to compliment my now old macbook pro. Especially if they get bigger/cheaper ssd's by then. :D

I think the new models look sort of HPish.

Or maybe Toshiba/Sonyish.

Your right, it needs to grow on you (translate: adopt and adjust to the ugly duckling) ;)
