I don't know enough about the tech details of the 45nm chips but i have trouble with the fact that they are not mentioning this.
I don't have any. Apple has never - ever - really said much about these technicality. In fact, I doubt whether they have ever mentioned exact processor numbers anywhere. I think they don't even do in hardware developer notes and spec sheets. Neither do they disclose GPU clocking, etc.
Maybe somehow they modified the 65nm chips?
Come on... don't be too inventive on this
There is no reason to modify anything. These 45nm CPUs are readily available from Intel, they come in the same package size (22x22mm, I think), the have exactly the frequencies as these advertised by Apple, they have the 1066Mhz FSB, work with 1066 DDR3 RAM, etc., etc...
I've always felt that companies will 'overstate' assets,
and hide deficits..
But that's exactly what they do! Hiding deficits.
65nm CPUs in the first generation MacBook Air have caused to thermal issues and, core shutdowns and/or downclocking. These 45nm CPUs are the stuff that should have been in these books in the first place. What do you expect Steve to say about these CPUs? "
Oh yeah, our new MacBook Air comes with great new Intel CPUs made in 45nm process. This should fix the horrendous thermal issues, and the damn core shutdowns the 1st gen units had. So these books can finally run at their advertised speed. Ain't that awesome?!"
Well... we're going to see reviews in the next few days. But I'd bet a brand-new MBA that this generation uses 45nm CPUs.
So who is thinking about getting the new Air?
Anyone think it may be wise to wait until January?
I will probably be getting one soon.
Waiting until January?
What for?
Maybe you could get the new iLife for free.
But I suppose that's about it.
