Nice update. I wish they could have added another USB port.

I'm torn between this and the new MacBook. Too bad I can't afford to buy either at the moment.

YES! This is the update I've been waiting for! Next month will see me with a new MacBook Air and my current Blackbook going up for sale on Craigslist and/or eBay! :D

It appears they did, lists it as a SATA drive in the store. I was interested in trying to stick a 128GB SSD in my 1st rev. Air but if that's SATA now too, that's not going to happen...

This is a real blow to the 1st gen. MBA's IMO, I'd hoped that the larger HDD and SSD would be backwards compatible. There goes my hope for a storage upgrade :-(

Very nice update! Depending on how these guys handle the heat, I may be trading in my MBP for one now that they can drive my external 30".

I was hoping for an HD screen too, but whatever. This is a good update - the graphics card was the Air's Achilles' Heel.

I think the best thing about these new books is invisible: 45nm CPUs.

Just a quick question: All these adapters and accessories like the DVI, VGA, Remote, etc... have they been purely optional before?

Thanks for the replies guys.

It seems most people are happy with the update.

But still hard to decide New Macbook air or Macbook. As the new Macbook does look nice. But of course MBA is the sexiest Mac out of them all.

ummmh...a few more weeks/months then maybe buy one..after Jan 2009- price reduction

are we sure the new processors are 45nm? Where did you read that?
Only thing I read is that the memory has been updated to DDR3

riz, wait for the early reviews. The original Air had a lot of problems that Apple was slow to/bad at addressing. I say go for the Air if you can afford it and it isn't unacceptably broken and the MacBook otherwise.

Isn't it pretty easy now?
Get the MBA if you're after less weight.
Otherwise even I would get the new standard MacBook.

That's pretty sure cause these CPUs (Core 2 Duo SL9300/9400) have been announced and out for some time. It was just bound to happen.

They have 1066MHz FSB (as opposed to 800MHz on the predecessors, right), the faster model comes at 1,86GHz instead 1,8GHz before, they should fix (or at least mitigate) thermal issues and... well... It has been just too "logical" a choice for Apple, and as far as I can see, the new Air is a perfect match spec-wise, so these should really be 45nm CPUs.

It's what should've always been in there, since january ;)

For the Air, yes. It never came with the adaptors or the Remote.

I don't regret getting the Air Mk.I because I needed it right away for a project. But man, do I hanker for a 128GB SSD model with 45mm processor...

I don't know enough about the tech details of the 45nm chips but i have trouble with the fact that they are not mentioning this.

Maybe somehow they modified the 65nm chips?

I don't know but it's rather odd.

I've always felt that companies will 'overstate' assets,

and hide deficits.....always

But then again.....hope springs eternal :)

I don't have any. Apple has never - ever - really said much about these technicality. In fact, I doubt whether they have ever mentioned exact processor numbers anywhere. I think they don't even do in hardware developer notes and spec sheets. Neither do they disclose GPU clocking, etc.

Maybe somehow they modified the 65nm chips?
Come on... don't be too inventive on this ;)
There is no reason to modify anything. These 45nm CPUs are readily available from Intel, they come in the same package size (22x22mm, I think), the have exactly the frequencies as these advertised by Apple, they have the 1066Mhz FSB, work with 1066 DDR3 RAM, etc., etc...
I've always felt that companies will 'overstate' assets,

and hide deficits..
But that's exactly what they do! Hiding deficits.

65nm CPUs in the first generation MacBook Air have caused to thermal issues and, core shutdowns and/or downclocking. These 45nm CPUs are the stuff that should have been in these books in the first place. What do you expect Steve to say about these CPUs? "Oh yeah, our new MacBook Air comes with great new Intel CPUs made in 45nm process. This should fix the horrendous thermal issues, and the damn core shutdowns the 1st gen units had. So these books can finally run at their advertised speed. Ain't that awesome?!"

Well... we're going to see reviews in the next few days. But I'd bet a brand-new MBA that this generation uses 45nm CPUs.

So who is thinking about getting the new Air?
Anyone think it may be wise to wait until January?
I will probably be getting one soon.
Waiting until January?
What for?
Maybe you could get the new iLife for free.
But I suppose that's about it.

Wanted:
1. Higher screen resolution, smaller bezel.
2. More RAM.
3. Ability to use spare battery.

Sigh.

I got the air a month ago with the ipod touch rebate and sold the touch back out for $200. I have no regrets getting the first gen air, the video card was never a big deal to me.

I actually bought my MBA last week even though I knew a new version was coming soon. But I got it at such a low price that I couldn't pass up. I am really glad I got it because the new one has a lower battery life. I only use it for browsing and HTML/Documents type stuff. So battery life was more important to me than graphics. I hope the new graphics core doesn't create new heat issues. The only thing I want in it is a SSD.

My flatmate came in and pointed at my Air, and suggested it was 'old-technology' and 'out-dated' now :(

I simply picked her up, gave her a hug and whilst lovingly stroking her sleek aluminium exterior, exclaimed 'Frak off, She's an ORIGINAL!!!!' ;)

(After all its like having a first edition hardback from your favourite author). Noone will push my MBA around - she's fine (I mean after all if I wanted to buy a gaming notebook, I would not have bought her in the first place.

< I hope these words of comfort will warm my fellow Original MBA owners in the light of todays news >

(yes that means while I do like the NVidia 9400M - its no biggie for me )

Are we gonna be able to upgrade our "old" MBA?

Gawd, "old MBA" doesn't even sound right! I'd like to upgrade to that 128SSD, then my old MBA would be perfect...:p

For the Air, yes. It never came with the adaptors or the Remote.

My MBA bought in August, came with the micro-DVI to VGA adapter, and micro-DVI to Video Output adapter; I purchased the Ethernet adapter and I already had a remote...
