I went to the store to check display, it seems very simillar speed to current M1 macbook pro. maybe little bit more ghosting on the new one. I dont know why but some apps looked more fluid than another (f.e safari comparing to photos app) Overall very nice display.

Just did that with my laptop when he was in the launch pad and extremely quickly swiping through the Apps. Didn't have anywhere near that same issue he was having. I'm REALLY thinking that if you are experiencing these results, you might want to go to Apple and get a replacement.

To be clear, I see some ghosting, in the same way that I see some ghosting on my LG UW Monitor. And to be fair to my LG UW, I don't have it at the fastest settings, but I know the panel, even not at its fastest settings, is still quite quick.

I really, really think this may be a defect and if you have this issue, contact Apple about it. I've been hearing more and more from both sides saying some have it and others don't.

EDIT: MORE NEWS. This might actually have to do with the brightness. If I am under 50% brightness, I notice ghosting a bit more, but its still not as bad as this video. When Im at max brightness, it's gone, effectively. That is to say, it's extremely hard for me to tell if there is ghosting or not at max brightness. At lower brightness (50% and below), I notice it more, I think.

Good to know about the brightness being a factor. I normally like about 80% brightness at least, so I expect I wont have much ghosting.

Many in the discord I am apart of think it's actually the backlight that is slow to respond.

Either way, I absolutely do NOT have the issue being showcased in the video or what many other people see. I am unsure if it's just the shutter rate on the camera or if its something else.

To be clear, there's "ghosting" on this panel in so far as there's "ghosting" on my gaming monitor (LG 950F). Imagine quality wise, as far as ghosting is concerned, look indiscernible from each other, even in slow motion.

Well I've spent half the day with my 14" now. The ghosting on this panel seems less than my M1 Air, which I already have no problem with. The ProMotion is appreciated even with the bit of smearing. Reminds me a lot of the 11" iPad Pro but with better black levels.

Not sure if there is a lottery of response times going on or if the video looks way worse because it's slowed down.

I seriously doubt that it’s due to the backlight. Each led covers a pretty large area compared to a pixel (or tens to hundreds of pixels). Furthermore, the ghosting shown in the video is pretty bright— LCDs are good at blocking light (that’s their job), and such a leaky panel would have absurd blooming.

I’m going to take a slo-mo video of my machine with my iPhone and I suggest you all do as well. Not hard.

If we're to post slow-mo videos, the new display seems much better than the previous one in terms of fluidity.

I think the display is fine. I have two mini LED displays (the 14" MBP and my Samsung Neo G9), and a little blooming is expected with the mini LED displays (because the backlight zones are larger than the pixels). However on both displays outside of situations where you try and exacerbate blooming when you are talking about day to day usage it is a non issue, and worth the tradeoff for deep blacks which you need for HDR content.

Have the same samsung display and I have zero issues with the display pixel refresh (quiet a few others though). If my MBPM is as good I will be happy.

I received this 14" MacBook Pro model and finally set it up this evening. After changing the display to the brightness and dialed down the dimmest I noticed there's a flashing spot during the process. It is repeatable.

That looks like the reflection of a HD or NIC light on a desktop PC...

I just got mine. Ghosting is worse than my previous 2017.

I don't think this is a panel lottery, more like people's perception lottery.

Surprised almost no review mentions this. Al reviewers care about is videos editing, video editing, and video editing/

Pretty much this. I do not notice any ghosting in my daily work or usage. I do notice the fluidity of the 120hz panel and incredible contrast. This display is so much better than anything else I have ever used that it’s almost scary.

For me at least, ghosting is absolutely a non issue.

The panel is technically slow, this is an objective fact, but other than that it is the best Mac screen ever in terms of every other visual metric I can think of. Honestly, I would have never noticed the ghosting in my normal workflow if I hadn't read about it on the Internet :).

I mean, I can kind of see the afterimages if I grab a window and move it around like a maniac. Who cares really? Haven't noticed anything watching videos or playing games. If anything, the slow panel works a bit like temporal AA :D

You're right, it was somebody working for Anandtech:
I looked, and I looked, and I looked. (MBP 14")
I did the same thing they did... opened up a terminal window to white on black, filled it with pages of text, scrolled up and down, moved the window all around... I've worked in display technology for decades and I don't see a problem. I suppose if you're picky enough and you compare every screen to every other, you can pick up some difference, but I do photo editing all the time on this display and it's just fantastic.

I don't know what you're supposed to see when you scroll test on a 120 Hz refresh panel; it's too fast to read. I just don't understand how there's a complaint here.

It reminds me of when a few years ago people were shaking their MBP and complaining about rattling due to a moving part inside the screen. As if you were going to use your laptop like that...

It's a known thing that most high-quality panels are not optimized for response times. If I compare text scrolling on the internal screen of the 16" vs on my external 144Hz LG monitor (which is a gaming-oriented product so it has a fast response time) I can see a difference if I pay attention, but then again I do not move stuff around while I'm reading it so it doesn't bother me in practice. I'll gladly trade that off for the great picture quality of the ProMotion display.

Been using my MBP 14" ever since it came out and yeah the ghosting is pretty noticeable even doing the scrolling, I mean it is what it is we also had this type of issues in the 16" 2019.

I love the display besides this though.
