Assuming they come out tomorrow, what are you going to do?

What are the average ship times for custom orders for new products?

I'm VERY excited for my first Mac....

I still don't get why people keep saying they're going to wait until WWDC even if a MBP is released tommorow. What exactly do people think is going to happen at WWDC?!

I don't think that much will be shown at WWDC, you guys have to remember that it stands for Worldwide Developers Confrence. The main focus will be leopard and I think some type of iPhone development tools, is very likely.

But, then again the Mac Pro was announced at last years event. Apple may use this event to showcase new hardware, its just too hard tell.

I said this in another thread and I'll say it again. People need to stop making assumptions about this WWDC. Case in point: this years's MacWorld had absolutely NOTHING to do with Macs. That being said, I wouldn't expect anything. That way, one can be pleasantly surprised.

(disclaimer: I am referring to the keynote, not the entire conference)

Whether new mpb comes out tomorrow or at WWDC, i think its definitely worth the wait for a week or more. I assume you are not in desperate need ASAP...

But what should we wait for? This is what I'm not getting...why wait? Isn't the whole point of all of us waiting MONTHS for the update so we can finally get it when its updated? Why exactly are we waiting another week after the update?

Some people are of the mind that another update may occur at WWDC, regardless of whether or not an update happens tomorrow. Doesn't make much sense to me - updating a product a week after it was just updated. I know if I bought a product only to have it be updated a week later, I would be rather angry.

I think hes saying that if the update does not come out tomorow, wait and see if the update will be released at WWDC, which is one week from today. I believe that the update will be shown at WWDC and not tomorow. I'm basing that off of the Mac Pro being released at last years WWDC, so it suits the MacBook Pro to be released at this years event.

Oh ok. Yeah I mean I have no problem if its not tommorow - i accepted the WWDC time frame long ago. I thought people were saying that even if it does come out tommorow - we should wait to buy...wasn't making much sense to me.

Yeah, I don't think theres any possibility of this.

Why would they make a computer model for 1 week and then update.

Also, this would require them to exchange a TON of laptops from people who bought between the 5th and WWDC. Seeing as if you buy 2 weeks before an update you can exchange. They would end up with no one wanting their "1 week" model and everyone would be trading back for the newer one. It would be incredibly wasteful and outright retarded of apple to do that.

I cannot think of a single rational reason why they would do this.

Thanks to both of you for answering. I thought I was missing some really important aspect and was going to really regret buying tomorrow (if it is in fact, updated tommorow).

As I read it some people thinks that Apple will include newer/more software to the MBPs ordered after WWDC...

I don't think those recommending that people wait to buy a MBP (if released tomorrow) until after WWDC think a newer MBP will come out.

I think they are imagining that new software could come out, that would be free. Perhaps iLife or a Leopard coupon. I'm not speaking to the likelihood of anything happening, I just wanted to speak to the silly notion that there would be a planned 1-week lifespan of a hardware revision. Its all about the software that might be announced as bundled.

I don't plan on waiting, and if in the unlikely event a free Leopard coupon is announced at WWDC less than a week after I buy a computer I plan on doing some serious whining to an in-store employee the next day. ;)

edit: Yeah, what PimpDaddy said more succinctly just before I posted.

I think if someone has been waiting a few months for the new MBP and it gets released tomorow, I would wait that extra 6 days and see if Steve Jobs says the words "All Apple computers shipping today will include a coupon to upgrade to Leopard in the fall".

Always wait if you can, even if it is only a week or two. Let the zealous must-have-it-now buyers take the risk of new features. No doubt they will tell us all about them in detail -- product analysis that costs you nothing!

apple could release macbook pros tomorrow and an entirely new product line at wwdc. the ultra-portable (admittedly, rumored not to debut until 2008) or a new imac or something else. unless you're bent on getting a macbook pro, it might make sense to see all of apple's cards before making a purchasing decision. still, if apple released new mbps tomorrow, i'd buy one if i were the op.

Ah ok. That makes more sense. Yeah software means nothing to me and I'm tired of waiting (and fighting with my 5 year old PC). If it comes out tommorow I'm getting it.

This is exactly what I meant!

I guess waiting 6 more days wont kill me!

I don't think Apple would be stupid enough to release a product update tomorrow, and then announce a product a week later which would interest a lot of the same market. They wouldn't voluntarily set themselves up to deal with the huge number of cancellations and returns that such a move would generate.

will it come in time if i wait

:apple: So i have to have my new MBP at latest the 15...i'm debating whether or not i will be able wait for an upgrade and order around WWDC and still have it by the 15:eek: or if i have to order before then... the upgrade sounds like it will be great but i need it by the 15 any details about shipping time and other help on making my decision would be very great...

Sometimes after Apple announces a product they say at the press confrences that the products are "Shipping Today", if that is the case with the new MBP, I would get on the phone will Apple and see if they can work something out with you, to get the notebook by the 15th. If announced at WWDC, that would be only 4 days apart, so you are taking a chance.

the MBP is going to be my college laptop for Digital Media Production but i'm starting in the summer quarter so that is why i need it...will the upgrade be something that is very crucial or is it just some more bells and whistles to add to its already great Awesomeness...

I think its highly likely that the MBP will be updated tomorrow or soon around WWDC. If jon4lakers asked whether he should wait back in January, I would have said no.

Keep in mind the MB is updated recently, and the black MB is almost the same as the low end MBP which is very close in my opinion. That can eat into the sales of the 15" MBP. Why pay so much to get a MBP when you have a MB that is so close aside from the graphics card really?

We don't know if there would be a new line of product coming out. That is a possibility, or an update to the imac etc. Point is that since its only a week away, why not wait another week? I know I would be annoyed if a new MBP comes up the week after I bought mine.

LED Screens, Santa Rosa, no one knows really...
