Hi Folks

I just ordered my MBP last Thursday. At this time the apple store (switzerland) showed shipping within 1 day. This has changed as my order was updated at the tracking site.

Here is the full story:

After I was waiting for a long time to see the update to C2D, I just gave up and decided to order now and be happy with what I'm getting with the first generation of MBP.

I called the order hotline to go shure that I'm getting my money back if there is a new product out soon (too soon ;-) ). The friendly guy on the other end confirmed me that i'll be able to send it back within 10 days w/o any restocking fee. After answering my question, the guy invited me to order with him, as he had the possibility to order even cheaper than the normal edu-store. Wow!

I placed my order and chose payment by bank transfer. Of course, the transfer was done on the same day as I can't wait untill I'm getting my new gadget ;-).

Today (Monday 2th) apple received my payment and updated my order. But now it shows a shipping date of Oct. 11 and is telling me that I'll get it around the 26th. Just to repeat: At the time I ordered, the store showed shipping within 24 hrs.

What does this mean?

Is it normal to wait that long?

Is it just because I ordered on the phone and chose bank transfer?

Could this mean that they are updating the MBP to C2D on the 10th, shipping my order the day after?

Just let me know what you guys are thinking about that!

(...and sorry for my bad english, I'm a Swissie ;-) )

Cheers
Sevi

I believe the shipping times posted on the Apple Store really apply more to the stock machines. Did you get any custom options. I have to admit, it does sound suspicious though. ;)

This is definately interesting, however on the UK store it is still 24 hours with the except of the 15.4" 2.16 ghz which is at 2 days. But i havent actually got an order so cant dont have an actual shipping date. Hopefully the will be released soon.

Are you saying that phone ordering is better than edu?

Exactely! I was pretty surprised too but the guy on teh phone was telling me that he has access to a different, better conditioned, store than the normal online store.

After recalculating my order on the normal site (non-edu-store) it shows a bargain of some 20%.

Just to complete: The Swiss store is also still showing 24 hrs.

It's not such ADC offer, for shure! The guy told me explicit that it was just a better edu-store the employees at the callcenter have access to.

By the way: Has somebody had the situation when he had a pending order while a product was updated? What happens in such a case?

Will I get automatically the new one?

(...in case it will be updated :) )

Higher Discount

If you're a student and applying through ucas even if you're currently on a gap year in the UK you get a 14% discount as well as Apple Care for £50 (£48.99 pr soemthing stupid like that) Don't know if you get that from ordering over the phone. The guys in regent street told me about it. Any one else got something like this?

Ouughhhh.... this reminds me on something I forgot: The protection plan I ordered is a special one for students as it is only about hardware but not about helpdesk stuff ("where can I find the explorer?" :D ).

It's half the price and only available over the phone order desk. At least this guy told me so...

Sounds to me like you got the HE contract price. You can access this price (and Applecare cover) from your campus network. It is cheaper than normal edu pricing in the UK.

Wow, could be a product refresh and a price update. It could be
that the OP was charged what the new pricing will be.
