We can't be sure but a good guess would be that it will be released after enough of these threads are made. Or next tuesday.

Can you even use Macs for law school? I heard the exam you lawyers need to take are conducted using an app that is Windows-only!

He wasn't being serious, just in case you thought he was. If you need the computer now then get it now, you still have the 14 day grace period after you buy it, in case the new one is released in that time frame.

And does a law-student really need a MacBook Pro specifically with the Core 2 Duo processor?

I mean, you need to sort out your priorities and look beyond the 'want' syndrome and focus more on what you actually need.

And lastly, why oh why another thread? Couldn't you have posted in one of the gazillion other threads about this very same question?

Hmmm:cool: dont you think, that if you are going to spend a lot of money buying a better product (than pc's), and since technology is always changing.. a HUGE upgrade from 32bits to 64bits, and more when all the future apps (Leopard, Vista) run on 64bits, you should put PRIORITIES too whether wasting your money or securing your investment? BTW i allready lost a lot of time, and money with a tablet that died 2 weeks ago... now whats more important the $$ or the education + loose time ?? but as you say.. never argue with an idiot.

In the quiet words of the virgin Mary, come again?

I am certain 64-bit will make a large difference for law-students around the world (no pun intended for those studying law).

Do you even do anything that a 64-bit capable processor will help you do better? I mean, if those extra 32-bit means a world of difference to you, one would think that something requiring 64-bit would be run on anything else than a notebook in the first place?

It's not as if the current MacBook Pro will suddenly be comparable to a toaster after the introduction of the Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro.

If he needs a notebook now, it would be wise to buy it now.

Don't get me wrong, we will see a greater benefit of the cool sounding 64-bitness down the road but I have my doubts as to whether or not it will make a difference in the notebook market for some time to come.

It is all about getting a good value for money in the absense of choice. I am sure if the OP can spec the MBP as he chooses and pays for exactly what he needs he would have gotten one long ago.

And please don't bring Virgin Mary into all this.

Most people dont know the difference between Intel and PowerPC, nevermind core duo this, and core 2 duo that (which most people will think is one and the same)

If we see any update at all, it will be by the 10th. That is around the date that most other manufacturers are shipping their Core2duo laptops.

This a a poor argument, people who use Apple? Who are those? The 3 smug geeks you see sitting around trying to evangelise people to their beloved platform? They miss the holidays they will miss the switchers for sure. Like you said those who are already suckered have no choice, they will come back to you for their next dose. Growth is getting new customers hooked, that's where the real money's at.

Wait till MWSF? Oh right, just when people are paying off their credit card bills for that new... VAIO! That's clever marketing Apple!

Sorry, if my experience with the "general public" is worth anything people care about cheap. They wouldn't "want a Mac" unless there is a tangible reason to. You can show them all the wizbangs with iLife, and they will ask, "Can I run my old applications on it?", and no, a reply like "MacOS has its own variant of software that does the same thing, except they are better!" doesn't cut it, they want the exact same thing they have been using to work, not something that is snazzed up to be "better!"

So Joe Public will take all the laptop brochures he rounded up that day, go home, pore over them.. and go "Hmm.. $1500 for this computer, Core 2 Duo 2.16Ghz" and look over at the MBP "$2499 Core Duo 2.16Ghz".

The choice is already decided right there, between a "safe" choice with a faster processor and a lower price and a "unsafe" choice with a slower processor for almost twice the money, only an idiot would choose the Mac.

Couldn't agree with you more! Well said. I don't care if the Core 2 Duo is only 10% speed increase, since I am paying for it, I want the newest technology period! Apple's laptop are pretty expensive (compared to Windows computers) which I don't mind paying for (beautiful design, the name etc), but when I am spending $1,000 more than the average laptop, I want to get the best out of my money.

Why would I buy a Porsche with a Corolla's motor? It doesn't make sense, does it?
