I'm impressed with what MS is rolling out. I have to say they seem to be generating more buzz with this stuff then Apple lately - just my $.02

The thing about IPP is that it only has one port. You can't charge the IPP and connect it to anything else....not even the Pencil. I was dead set on getting the IPP after the Keynote until I looked at my use cases. I want to be able to hook it up to a monitor and use it as a semi desktop replacement sometimes. Not my main function of course but occasionally. The SP4 just offers a ton more functionality and options.

Actually, u can do that. I hook Air 2 on my MBP and use it like a second monitor with 0 lag. I'm using duet display to accomplish that. If I ever get IPP (highly unlikely since the price is simply idiotic. IMHO of course), I will constantly use it as a second monitor while I travel.

Eventhough i will be getting the Surface Book..the iPad pro will be more of a game changer..its lighter and does stuff quicker because of the apps....its the apps guys..its all about the apps

As good as Windows 10 is, the tablet portion still sucks and is nowhere near as easy to use as simple apps designed for a tablet..which are becoming even more scarce then before..with that said Microsoft totally killed it today

Ahh the old app argument. It all boils down to how you use your tablet I suppose. If it's more of a consumption device then yes apps make a difference. This was broken down before and others were very hard pressed to come up with apps that are not also on windows in some shape or form. Certainly there may be quality differences, and of course UI differences, but the chasm was nowhere near as wide as many make it out to be. But once again I'm not disagreeing, it all depends on how you use the device. For my uses it's a MUCH better tablet than any ipad, no comparison.

That's what is so interesting about this class of device. Everyone has such diverse use cases. I can't imagine the difficulty coming up with a device that fits most peoples' needs. I mainly want a digital notepad and media consumption device, so the IPP may be a better fit for me than the SP4. If I want to play with photoshop or databases and code, I'll go to my MBP over a tablet/surface thing every time.

At the very least, the new competition will force all companies to keep innovating, which is great for us. Just a few months ago the tablet was written off as a mundane device. Now look at it!

Agreed. They're coming from a weaker position of course, especially in terms of design and 'cool'. But nonetheless the stuff they're bringing out today feels more fresh than Apple's latest updates, I'll have to admit.

And I totally got sucked into the Surface Book and didn't even check out the phones... The 950 XL looks pretty damn hot too! Very tasteful design. The extra 0.2" up on the iPhone 6s Plus's display size is nice, and I'm excited to see how Continuum with the Display Dock will work too.

Man... I recently decided to go all-in on the Apple ecosystem with a new MBP 15", iPhone 6 Plus last year, Apple Watch this summer and currently borrowing an iPad Air to see how it all works together... Suddenly I'm not so sure... If I only had the cash to try out this new Microsoft stuff on the side...

One thing is for sure: I was pretty set on an 6s Plus + iPad Pro this fall. Now I think I'll hold off until I've tried these new bad boys out.

What makes it tougher for MS fans is that MS will most likely release a very nice OneNote app for the ipad pro including inking functions. OneNote is phenomenal, and I'm sure paired with an ipp will be very nice.

Interesting about using the MBP over a tablet/surface, would you consider the surface book at that point?

Wait, am I the only person who is off put by the fact that the laptop does not close flush? While open, laptop looks gorgeous but when closed, imho it looks a bit ugly with that gap up top.

Hands on continuum from the verge pretty cool. It's been one of the features that excited me alot and hope gets adopted by others.

but its meant to be used, so it should be open most of the time and when its closed it will be in a case - at least that's how I use my laptops.

Couldnt care less what a laptop looks like closed, or open for the matter

While I agree, its still an important part of the aesthetics. And I guess I differ because I leave my laptop closed when I finish using it and some days it'll even go unused period but still, the inability to close flat is a bit negative to me in terms of design.

Nope. As someone pointed out in another thread, a similarly equipped surfacebook is more expensive than the $2500 15" rMBP. I previously owned a 13" rMBP and the extra screen size makes photo editing a lot better. I will never complain about more screen real estate while coding either. There's also the W10 factor... it is definitely better than W8, but I am still not convinced it is better than W7 for how I use computers, and I definitely do not prefer it over OSX. If you don't like W10 much, I'm not sure fancy devices are going to change that.

Maybe I'm just too much of a scifi aficionado but I love that look :p

I'm probably going to be in the market for a new laptop next year - the SurfaceBook just made the short list. I'm loving the features of what it has. Boy the MBP pales in comparison. I understand Apple will be rolling out an update at some point but given their history, I wouldn't be surprised to see something with less ports.

Despite ones feelings towards competitors, it is a great time for consumers and creators of technology, having multiple options for all kinds and getting better each and everyday, can't wait to see the next round of products apple offers after these demonstations by microsoft.

True, so a couple hundred bucks, 1.5" smaller screen and Win10, that's understandable. For me I see it differently, the price of that MBP plus an ipad pro is MUCH higher than even the highest surface book. The utility of just popping off the tablet portion of the surface book is amazing, not having to sync things, not having to carry or pay for 2 devices, etc.

I;m a bit disappointed in continuum, although I still think it's incredible. I was hoping the phone could run a full desktop, including legacy programs and have all the Win10 capabilities like snapping windows. Continuum is so far ahead of any other company it's not even funny though, so my wishes are just pure greed.

I wish MS would make Android phones as well
They're producing these products to extend their services. I don't see them moving into the hardware arena in such a way that it will be a major focus.

I had a wish for this as well, intel is testing Core M processors for mobile phones, and with apps being developed against the universal windows platform having in theory the full desktop version of an app while using continuum would be possible since it is the same application running on the phone. Developers would just have to update their apps for this. So it will be possible for the new universal windows apps, the older software would just have to get updated.

I could use a Windows phone if Google would play nice with them. The only apps I use are Google apps, Nova Launcher and Pocketcasts podcasting app.

I was so gung ho on getting a IPP pro but the SB is calling my name. However like someone mentioned, it will really come down to the apps with SB.

Just noticed that the Surface Book is .1lbs lighter than the Surface Pro 4. Anyone know if that is with or without the keyboard on the SP4?
I would guess without the keyboard because in the past the advertised weight was the tablet alone.
