Quick question while I update the post: are these things you will use the mMP for yourself, and what is DFIR? (Guessing some type of image recognition??)
I haven't ordered one for my own use, but I have clients howling for the rack version. I won't be installing any towers until after the holidays.

Getting close to 175 posts, so time for an update. Adding:

DFIR and hash cracking, multiple GPU needs

There are also enough comments about the hackintosh / hobbyist segments that I'll add these. Hey, if you're in these segments, please describe what you would use a lower priced new mMP for, or the specific flexibility in the build you need, like having X number of GPUs for a certain purpose, or Y number of hard drives for your network/backups. In other words, IF the mMP had a lower priced version, what would you actually use it for?

And yeah, with that I'm straying a bit from wanting to list actual users of the mMP but these segments could be interesting to explore. BTW, thanks to posters who have suggested who other real users would be, that's informative, but I'm only capturing actual mMP buyers/users who post on here--if you're wondering what my rationale is :) Also, if you have posted here already, and are going to be buying/using a mMP, please describe how you will use it if you haven't already. Thanks.

If you are buying a new mMP, and talking about PC/Win in that context, that's great! 😎. If you find yourself getting into a Mac v. Win debate, you may want to head over here to add to the active and robust discussion that's going on: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/what-is-stopping-you-from-using-windows.2216010/

Not buying:

Cost aware buyers if an iMac Pro or loaded 16" MBP is fast enough for your needs (members noting that you can add a monitor or eGPU if needed, even if it's not ideal).

NOT BUYING for personal use. I will have to run some rack versions for work. I've been extremely happy with my hackintoshed Z820s. They have been 100% flawless. But what would I buy?

Really, it just needs to be a Z6 with a pair of 2x8 pins available to each of 3 GPUs. Done, Son.

Zollotech bought a Mac Pro as well. His channel is largely focused on covering Apple software updates and product launches.

He kinda lucked out in that Apple sent him a model with better specs than what he had originally ordered, and told him to keep it with their blessings. He has been previously working on an iMac Pro, so a Mac Pro is likely overkill for his needs, but still a very welcome upgrade indeed.

If I was a 3d "hobbyist", then I would just rent AWS instances instead of spending money on local machine that will be obsolete in 2 years.

I don't rent software - it inevitably costs more in the long run. It is fine for the technically illiterate, but that isn't me. The future isn't renting - it is home servers. Cheaper, and not as reliant on the craptacular internet access that most 'Murikans have access to.

My next system won't be an Apple computer; Win/AMD systems don't go obsolete in 2 years.

Going with AMD means that each socket (AM4, TRX40, etc) is good for several generations. A mid-lifecycle refit means either a graphics card or a CPU upgrade, not a new machine.

Although, I gotta admit - I shoulda gone to AliExpress before starting on my Ryzen system. Could have gotten an X79 board that takes dual E5 -2600 series Xeons, 512Gb of ram addressable, and 6 Pcie slots for $250, shipped.

Drop in 2 E52690's, moved my 128Gb ram and my RX560 from my 2 4,1, added an M.2 riser card, CPU Cooler, PSU, & Extended ATX case for less than $700.

I may still do this For Science!

Well, no, you are not renting the software. Perhaps you are not familiar with cloud render at all? It is far more cost effective and you will have access to far more powerful CPU + GPU instances than your own rig doing the renders.
