I have an issue, I installed the Parallels-Tools-Bcp-1.0.3-Win.exe and everything, but I get this when I try to boot into Windows:

I have XP Pro on NTFS.

On bootup, did you:
-select Parallels configuration?
- hardware profile: parallels configuration?

I never get the chance thats the very first thing that shows up when I run the VM.

I would try re-installing the bootcamp parallels tools again. After this was installed, on bootup I was able to select parallels configuration. If you don't select this, you get the error message that you posted.

I tried the beta, upgrading over my existing version. After the upgrade, I couldn't get my Vista (RC1) to load. I'd get the status bar, then it would freeze and my memory/CPU utilization went through the roof. I could still control Parallels, and other items, but Vista wouldn't load.

I downgraded from the beta to my original version (1970 I think) and Vista loads normally. I did have a few scares, where the Vista image 'disappeared' and I had to use Spotlight to find it. But all if okay for now.

Perhaps when my 'real' copy of Vista appears, I can try again with a clean install of both Vista and the beta of Parallels. For now, I'll stay where I am :D

Just simply due to this Parallel beta, I brought the software today (One day after my trial runs out [Hint: it doesn't run out as long as you don't restart / shutdown the Virtual machine or the host machine - god it was slow.. about 5 days uptime straight..])

Cheers!

Before I actually paid for it, I also found setting my Mac's clock back to be an effective dodge to the timeout... they really should fix that.

I bought it when it was $39 ;)

Some places offer Parallels for free after rebate when you're buying a new machine... so this would be perfect for anyone upgrading machines.

I've only seen it with the Mac Pro currently, though... but I'll be buying an 8-core when those ever come out anyway, so I'm considering that myself.

Purchased Parallels a couple of days ago and then installed the beta instead to keep XP to a minimum. Works well I think. Just loaded it last night. I have a problem? When I boot into boot camp and need to choose between the Parallels Windows XP config or stand alone XP I don't have use of my keyboard on my Macbook Pro 2.33. Any ideas on getting the keyboard back? Am I even supposed to have built in keyboard support?

The keyboard should work fine, the keyboard on my MBP does.
Did you install the drivers on the CD that you burned when installing Boot Camp? That should make pretty much everything work under Windows

The keyboard works when I am in Parallels. My problem is when I choose Windows XP from the option key and have to choose between Parallels and WIndows Xp I get no keyboard arrows. I have loaded all the drivers from the boot camp Mac driver CD.

I had this problem in my 2.33 c2d MBP too.

boot up XP in parallels, and change the boot.ini timeout to 10 rather than the -1 that it is. this is in system properties\advanced tab\startup and recovery settings.

also change the timeout for the profiles selector to 10. this is under system properties\hardware tab\hardware profiles.

make sure for both that your default profile/choice is the default (bootcamp) config. when it loads into bootcamp u will get full functionality. whenever you boot into parallels, make sure u select the parallels option both times.

That is awesome. I will try this and post the info on the parallels forum where folks are encountering the same problem. Thanks.

sigh i wish that forum was more organised.

i had this problem as soon as the beta was released. I found the answer on their forums and also answered someone else as well with the solution. and yet people still keep asking the same question there...

Interesting. I also searched with no success for the answer to my trouble in that forum. So I posted my question here and there. Did you find your solution was the same as the one I mentioned in my reply from the Parallels forum? You would think a bug like this would be easier to identify and fix.

Unmounting a drive without ejecting is an option in Disk Utility.

Plus, if you assign the hardware to Parallels before inserting a disc it'll go to Parallels first.

the parallels beta really sucked for me since i was trying to use ubuntu linux. I set up everything right and it just gave me some kind of error message(which i forgot) before i could even install it.

Great concept and I really hope they get it working, but right now for me it's not worth using until they get that Bootcamp issue fixed. Everytime you use Parallels then go into Bootcamp (or vice versa) you have to reactivate XP as you already know.

This only works if the Paralles Tools for Bootcamp work. :(
It looks like a one-shot deal. The installer crashed and now it looks like I have to reinstall completely to try again.

It won't let me uninstall it, or reinstall it.
It didn't create a new profile or anything. Just didn't work.
