mmmm... jessica.'s beer...
Looooooong time 1Pw user. In fact it was the first app on my phone when we first got apps on the phone.
That said, and nothing against 1Pw, and even though I am a heavy and advanced user of it, I am very interested in moving myself and the family over to Apple Passwords from 1Pw.

Those who have installed iOS18, can you give some details on the app???? PLS!
I see that there is no Notes feature…ok.

Is there a feature for 2FA?
Is there a space for some minimal notes ASSOCIATED with a password entry?
Looking quickly at the current Settings Passwords options, looks like both of those exist.

Most importantly, can I import my 1Pw into Apple Passwords?
What other features / options are you guys seeing. Would really appreciate someone taking 3 minutes and writing up about the Passwords app.

Thanks in advance.
So I haven't messed with it that much yet, I did import my 800 bitwarden passwords into it. Yes you can import from a .csv file, you can export too. Yes, there is a notes section for EACH password you want to add - different from a notes section entirely like there is in lastpass for example. As for 2FA - yes, each time you go to fill a password it will either do faceID from the phone, or fingerprint from the computer, OR, your computer password.

But you can’t save things like credit cards, passports, driver licenses, etc including a photo of each in the Apple solution, can you? I use 1Password for things like this, plus secure notes, and passwords. All in one place. I think Apple has 2 of 3 of these, but in separate apps.

No, you can't do that as of now anyway. It seems to be strictly passwords.

Why do we need this, is opening "keychain access" not the same thing for many years ?

This is a good move by Apple. A lot of people who use a Mac probably don't have a clue about where the current passwords access is, much less how to scan and edit. A standalone helps empower those who are ignorant of all the options or scared to go into settings for fear of messing their system up.

Like you, I am a long time 1pw user. At first glance of this new app, it's lacking quite a bit that 1pw has. Yes, you can import your stuff, but from the Mac version only. It only accepts passwords. There's no secure notes, bank accounts, identity, documents, drivers license, etc. I use a lot of those things with 1pw. Really not sure how to transition to this app over 1pw now. I want to

Same, though I've started to use locked notes for some things. I wonder if there's a good reason why 1password's solution is superior to locked notes for identities, etc?

For me because it's all in one place. I don't want to open various apps for the different things I want to secure. Unless they add more than just passwords to this app, I guess my 1pw sub will continue. I'm fine with it tbh, I love 1pw.

You should try Bitwarden.

It’s free. Apple’s MO is to make something that is free and “good enough”. But paid apps typically have more features.

They are aimed at people who would never pay for an alternative.
Funny, my business partner and I did pay for 1P but Apple’s integration is far better.

The 1Password for Safari popover control drive both of us insane. It was either in the way or simply didn’t work altogether.

We did have to manually add shared business credit cards in the old-school safari autofill menu but that was easy too.

Good enough for me to stop subscribing to 1Password. I was so fed up with version 8, both because of Electron, but also that they refused to put the new version in Mac App Store.

Hopefully this results in increased innovation at 1Password, and not just corporate bloat and slowness.

I don't know why anyone would be paying for 1PW when Bitwarden is free. Even Apple's solution should be adequate for the vast majority of the population. Too bad Apple isn't going to support Android.

When I last looked at BitWarden the Free version was missing features compared 1Pw — I remember the free version not including 2FA, and not including Family support. Is that still the case? Although honestly I’ll either stay with 1Pw or move to Apple Pws, or wait out the move.

Yes I use all of this (secure notes, bank accounts, identity, documents, drivers license, etc.) too.

I also maintain and have access to Vaults for my wife and my parents, and store a bunch of logins for other family members; although it sounds like I could maybe do this the Family Sharing features if APws.

Need to do a deeper dive on APws. Not ready to install the betas and can’t seem to find anyone who has done a detailed Walkthrough (article or video) on the new Passwords app.

In order to beat 1Password, you have to be 1Password.

You've definitely missed something - a big increase in ease-of-access, making it a much more viable alternative to 1Password and others (including their subscriptions!). I'm personally looking forward to the possibility of ditching 1Password if this native Passwords app turns out to be fleshed-out enough.

Bitwarden should be the one to beat. It's free, open source and available everywhere.

I'll look at the Apple Passwords app, but 1P just renewed for another year and only cost me $35, so it'll always be a case of if it's worth the time and effort to move.
The annoying competing popups on web forms may make it worth it.
I have a couple of important notes, and I'm not sure I want them in the notes app. But good to have options if 1P gets any crappier 🙂

Not if you're to use MFA codes. Then you need to pay for bitwarden...
Why does it matter that the app uses MFA code? For example, with my bank, I just received the code via SMS. When signing into T-Mobile, I also get an SMS.
