Interesting video on the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB

One of the few reviews of this product (and for good reason). What really surprised me was the how nividia architected the RTX 4060 ti (8gb) that a 16GB model required a complete PCB redesign and some odd memory chip usage to attain the 16GB of vram. Hardware unboxed does a great job explaining - much better then I could. Just fast forward to the 1:54 mark on the issues with the 128bit bus, GDDR 6 memory and why they needed to rework the board.

I saw in the latest YT of Paul's Hardware that he mentioned RTX 40 series in relation to steam stats and usage. He points out, that the much maligned RTX 4060 Ti and 4070 are showing up in steam stats, which means people are buying them, even though every tech reviewer and "influencer" were giving these solid don't buy recommendations.

I think they're missing the point. First off many of these are are part of pre-builts, but my point is that while these YTers and reviewers can tell us why its not a good deal, they're not the ones struggling to get or afford new GPUs. They get these sent to them (for the most part). We consumers on the other hand have much tighter contraints on what we can get and what we can afford. Many of us cannot afford (nor want to ) spend nearly 2k on a GPU. No matter how many times an influencer is telling us to avoid nvidia and not give in to their business practices, they're doing so from their ivory towers and many of us just want to play games (on a budget).

The hardware survey also doesn’t say what GPU the 40-series owner had before, I think that most reviews are taking it from the is it worth upgrading from the 30 series to. If you have a 9,10,20 series the 40 series is a good upgrade. Or if you are using AMD and want DLSS and better performing Ray Tracing.

AMD has the same problem 6000 -> 7000 series GPU upgrade doesn’t appear to be worth it, but if you have an older GPU then it could be a better deal.

Yep, when the top GPUs on that list are the GTX 10 series, moving from a 10 series to a 40 series, even a 4060 would be a nice bump up.

My particular situation is that I'm on a 2060 and I'm weighing budget vs. availability vs. longevity. Do I buy a 4060 (budget friendly, high availability but its longevity is highly questionable.) or kick in a few hundred more for a 4070 or wait to see what AMD does with the rumored RX 7800 XT.

Yeah it's easy to sit there and be high-and-mighty when you don't need a GPU. When you do, what are you supposed to do? You get the best one you can afford at the time you have to buy it. You can get a used 3060Ti for around $250 to $300, but that is an almost 3 year old card. Plus you never know if the cards on ebay where used for crypto.

This is not a simple situation.

Just got a RTX 4090 and loving it. Not bragging.

Do you all think I should keep it lol ?

It is expensive but oh so fast.

The Last of Us Part 1 is a joy on the PC with it!

Thankfully I got it for like $600 to $700 less because of a Amazon price mistake!

What was the outcome?
I keep looking but only need a card for flightsims and just can't decide, some of the prices are just scary to just play a game.....

What do you all think of a Nvidia doing this with the 4090 ? Seems risky and I bet there will be drawback. That or it will hurt their sales.

How do we feel about the Super rumors?
40 Super rumors? I thought I heard about 30 Super rumors too but that never materialized. You never know with Nvidia. The 40 series has been....idk not a fan. I've got a 3060Ti in my desktop and it is excellent but the 40 series just seems like a genuine dissapointment especially the 4060Ti. Idk what a Super series lineup would look like

The "supply chain" is saying that is why the 4080 is getting harder to find (at MSRP at least in the states). It is supposed to get replaced with the 4080 Super next year.

So far rumors say that only the 4070, 4070 TI, and 4080 are getting Super variants.

Don't you mean the 4090 ?

Of the rumors/speculation, I think, dropping the RTX 4080 price to $999 or even $899 would be a notable positive.

And I stand by this. The (base/FE) $999 RTX 4080 Super seems like a fair/good deal, relatively speaking — at least, if you’re not going for a ‘budget’ card.
As a 4080 owner of under a year, consider me pouting quite a lot

If they pull the same thing with my 4090 too I will achieve maximum poutage

Yeah unless AMD shows off a 7970XTX it isn't likely Nvidia will bother with a 4090ti or super.
