When I say luxury purchase, I mean to say it ultimately performs the same function as the inductive charging cable does. Nobody "needs" to have this dock.

So the price? Most docks I see require use of the charger that came with the watch. It's built in to this charger so it stays on my night table and the cable that came with the watch stays in my bag so I can charge on the fly if I need to. Those cables if you haven't checked sell for $29-$39 depending on size. Lightning cable costs $29 for the 2M.

The primary reason I purchased was I wanted my steel band to lay flat on the surface of my night table, and I didn't want to keep laying the side of my watch on a hard surface as I felt it was a scratch waiting to happen.

This charger gave me the best of both worlds. Freed my charging cable for travel so I didn't have to buy an extra and provided a small footprint and soft surface. It didn't even cross my mind the cost of an iPhone charger because they are 2 different products altogether for 2 different devices. I also never factor in costs of 3rd party cables and chargers because I don't use them.

Not sure anyone still pay $29 for a 2M lightning cable. Waste of money on that price.
I don't expect anyone able to catch sell of $1 Amazon cable, but no one I know pay $29 for a lightning cable any more.
I know this is what Apple charge for, but 2M lightning cable is no long hold value at $29.

Added: Personally if I welling to accept UFO shape for AW dock, I would rather paid for $49 without lightning cable, and use my iPhone or $1 Amazon cable. That cable will likely stay almost forever attached to dock and USB charger on the wall. No need for $29 Apple cable.
By the way, does AW dock also come with USB charger? If not, there is no reason to also package lightning cable in it, when user also have to buy a extra USB charger. 3rd party Lightning cable and USB charger are both popular right now.

I don't think I would be very comfortable charging a $900 device with a $1 cheap knockoff cable particularly after the cheap usb Chargers were frying devices. I also don't think this charger is marketing the demographic of those that would purchase those $1 chargers from Amazon. I laid out those prices because I am guessing those costs to consumer were factored in when they priced this out.

That being said, if you find this charger too expensive, or not fitting your needs or wants, nobody is telling anyone else to buy it. We all know our own pain points, hot buttons, and cost thresholds.

3 $1 cables I mention are "Apple MFi Certified" and they are $8 now, link below. There is reason why Apple come up with certified program, is to ensure 3rd party product "meet" Apple's standard.

I have no problem spending 5 digits on "men toy", but not on a product clearly does not hold their value.
