Thanks for your reply.

If I get Monterey working on my 5,1 will I have issues with the wifi?

Will I have to upgrade my wifi and Bluetooth adapters?
You have a 5,1 which can run Mojave natively. Why would you have to upgrade them?

My 4,1 which I updated to a 5,1, didn't need that.

I think you're confusing the patchers with the stock installers. Some Mac models have issues because they are running patched versions of the OS. You don't need to worry about that because you're doing a fully supported stock install (for your MP) of Mojave.

I'm thinking about putting Monterey on my 5,1. I've been reading and it seems like if I want to use my existing wifi with my 5,1 running Monterey then I have to replace the WiFi and Bluetooth adapters.

Is this true?

Thanks!

The WiFi - BT card in the 5,1 doesn't support 802.11ac nor Bluetooth 4.2+. If Guitarmas wants to at some point use a patched OS, WiFi and Bluetooth either won't be supported entirely or will be haphazardly supported.
Sure…but isn't OP just focused on Mojave at the moment?

EDIT: Apparently not.

I apologize.
I'm thinking a lot of things at once.
I'm sorry about the confusion.

I am focused on Mojave at the moment.
In the future I would like to put Monterey on it.

I apologize again.

Thank you for the reply.
I'm so sorry.
I skimmed over your post and didn't thoroughly read it.
I apologize .
You answered my question completely.
Thank you!

If I were to upgrade my WiFi and BT what is suggested for a 5,1.

edit: Would this work?

Thanks again.

:)

I think I need to slow down.
I'll just focus on Mojave first.
I'll tinker with that first.
There's no need to get ahead of myself.
I'm going to enjoy working on it.
I can't wait.
My ssd tray will be here Friday.
Anywho...
Sorry about all the stray questions.
I don't mean to be a bother.
Thanks again for the support and comments.

As I mentioned earlier, even if you upgrade to a newer OS later, I would keep them separate.
Keep Mojave on it's own drive.

Anything newer is unsupported and patched, so can create other problems sometimes down the road.
Always worth keeping the official supported OS on there.

I will definitely have, at least, 2 drives.
One for Mojave and the other as an experiment.
Thanks again!

Thanks for all the advice.
Through a tiresome process, I was able to upgrade my 5,1 to Mojave.
I can only imagine how difficult it might be to get Monterey on it too.
I've got 2 drives.
One is a 500gb ssd with Mojave on it for my boot drive.
The other is a 2tb hdd with High Sierra on it.
I might get another ssd to install an unsupported MacOs.
I didn't have any luck with using the Mojave thumb drive I created with Transmac though.

I am curious, what did you find tiring about installing Mojave?

The flashed video card had some graphical glitches. Nothing serious though.
With the upgrade to Mojave, they went away.
I basically know next to nothing about Apple and MacOs's.
It was a slow process for me.

But you learned something. And you got Mojave installed. When you know nothing, that is an accomplishment. Now that you have done it, it also takes the uncertainty away.

Congratulations and enjoy what you have wrought! ;)

I'm probabaly going to get another Samsung 500gb ssd.
I'm going to attempt putting Monterey on it.
I'm going to use this tutorial.

*edit: I have a Samsung 500gb ssd that's running Mojave now. Should I replace it with a non Samsung ssd?

The 870 series and QVO series are known to have issues with cMP.
Some people have them working as data only drives.
Thank you for your reply.
I kept wondering why I kept getting so many O's with a line through them.
I kept having to reboot my Macpro over and over again.
Finally it worked.
I didn't really know what to think
I took the Samsung evo 870 back
I got a crucial.
I installed it.
I I put Mojave on it and I didn't have any issues.
I did learn something.
Do not use Samsung evo ssds on a 5,1 Mac pro.
It took me all day when I first installed Mojave...so many errors.
I got the Crucial ssd and it took less than an hour.

One other thing to note. When I first got an SSD for my MP I also got the adapter for the sled. The SSD was absolutely fine, but apparently the adapter connector was bad. I kept having read/write issues. So, that may also be something for you to check.

I bought a NewerTech adapter and all the problems went away. One of those times where paying for quality is cheaper and beneficial in the long run. My original adapter was garbage.

All previous generation evo/pro Samsung SSD, before 870 work fine (as my sig).
Thanks for the response.
I'll definitely keep a note of that.

I bought 2 ssd sleds from OWC.
They're a great fit.
A bit on the pricey side but I was anxious about getting one anywhere else.

Thanks for your responses.

I was thinking about buying an SSD with Monterey already on it. But where's the fun in that?
