This staggered lineup is a bit of a mess.
I'd have taken the 2023 pause as a chance to revamp the whole lineup at once.

I'd have updated the 10th gen and the mini with the M1, and the other 2 as they have been.
This way would have been a clean revamp of the whole lineup.

Oh well...
Currently in the process of saving money for a 11" pro.

IPad mini is quite popular. Especially in retail as a handheld POS system. They won't drop it.
Well the current pricing of the unit makes it TOUGH to buy. They lowered the price of the base iPad but not the Mini and kept the old A15 chip.

Really feels like these two need a bump in specs and lower the price. The mini would be an awesome entry iPad for many, but it's just too damn expensive for what you get

I will buy the new M2 Air, so I’ll skip the next mini.
I have 5 and 6, and 5 will go back to source when I buy the M2 Air.

But I wonder still, when the mini will get M-chip? Probably not next time, but I hope I’m wrong for those who are in a buying mood for mini now.

The main difference between A and M chips are the number of cores. The M1 and M2 could've been called the A14X and A15X, respectively, in the old naming scheme. I wouldn't mind a faster mini but I'm not sure that it needs an M2 or M4.

I love my mini 6, so it would take something huge to get me to upgrade. I just don't get the desire to upgrade them frequently like iPhones. For now, I'm waiting for AirPods Max 2 so I can finally own a pair. Lightning is dead to me.

I'm with you. Last hop was from Mini 2 to Mini 6. Next hop is likely to Mini 9 or 10 unless something incredible rolls out before then. iPads tend to have much longer "legs" than iPhone. And curiously enough, both 2 and 6 are cellular models so I have my Mini standing in for iPhone too (buds + VOIP app)... so no iPhone at all. Fully good enough for my mobile telephony & texting needs and- IMO- ALL other apps are better on the bigger screen.

That said, the wait for 9 or 10 would be easily sped up for the hypothetical Mini PRO. I do envy those PRO MAX cameras.

In other words, don't get your hopes up for an iPad mini 7 announcement during Apple's upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

Why would anyone expect consumer hardware announcement during WWDC?!?!?!?!?!

This event is for the pros.

But yeah, iPad and iPad Mini is likely going to be saved for fall event, either alongside the iPhone 16s or M4 Mac event.

Apple won't do this because they already released new iPad Pros and iPad Airses.

I can't wait I really hope Apple will release on in silver, I know it is a superficial thing but I have everything in silver in my Apple ecosystem!

The fact that is one of the primary audiences is precisely why they don't really care about updating it frequently. Apple will update the mini when they run out A15 Bionic SOCs or the display panel is no longer manufactured by Samsung, LG, etc.

I want an iPad to replace my ageing, more or less un-used, iPad mini 4. Note, I don't really need one, I just want one.. ;)

Now both the new M4 iPad pro and the M2 iPad air (11" versions) seemed quite tempting when released, but holding the (now old) 6th gen iPad mini, it became quite clear that it the mini I want...just a newer mini.

I'd hoped that Apple would quietly upgrade the mini now before WWDC with a A17 pro (or bionic) chip, but if I'll have to wait until fall, and then get an updated mini with an A18 pro/bionic chip, then so be it... I'll wait.

Compared to the base iPad the mini has much better display specs (fully laminated, AR coating, P3 color, and I’m disregarding the jelly scrolling here which officially is “fine”), a faster processor, and supports the Pencil 2 with wireless charging. It’s not intended as an entry-level iPad, it’s intended as an ultra-portable iPad.

?? Because Apple has launched new hardware before at their WWDC keynote speeches.

And had they just bumped it to the M2 at the very least - it would not be bad at all.

Pretty decent PPI as well

Well, they launched the iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4, and HomePod at WWDC. Generally it's OS but it can happen. Likely wont this year but it has.

I'd love a Pro mini. I use mine exclusively for aviation as it's the only model that fits on an aircraft yoke.
That's what I use mine for. Either yoke mount or window mount depending on what I'm in. I have a 6, but will probably upgrade when a new one comes out so I can have the 7 as my primary and 6 as a backup.

Which was before they had separate iPhone events and HomePod was a new product line. A random update to an existing lineup? Really doesn't happen at WWDC.
