Delete single text messages As well as better allocation of SMS memory. I'd much rather not have any music/ video/ photos on my phone and be able to store more SMS messages!

Delete single entries from the "recent calls" list

File System (Finder)
Please! Let us take our important documents and files with us on the go.

Would also argue a simple office suite would be nice. Nothing fancy. Also ability to save files that are in web pages, especially images.

Flash Support
I want the ENTIRE internet in my pocket. Not the mobile internet. All of it.

As long as it runs at an acceptable speed and doesn't eat the battery alive.

Ability to send more than one photo at a time via e-mail.
Why one? Why not three? Seven?

And ability to send various other files that could be stored on the phone.

Ability to delete more than one e-mail at a time.
If I actually received more than two e-mails a day, this one might bother me more.

Also ability to set various filters, for spam, etc.

MMS Messaging
Once again… free phones have this functionality. Not everyone has an iPhone, so e-mail is not a viable option here.

Plus video messaging! My old crappy Rokr E1 could do it and it had "iTunes" too...kinda.

Additional volume increase
The iPhone WORKS GREAT in a quite office. Make it better for everywhere else.

I'm sure they did extensive testing prior to this update and found that they can only increase the volume a little bit without damaging the hardware. I'm sure they went with the cheapest speakers they could get for the money so they would have a higher profit margin and simply put they can't handle high volume output. Lesson learned and iPhone v2.0, if they listen to their customers like they usually do, will have better speakers, if not iPhones currently in production getting a quiet upgrade.

iCal Custom Calendar Coloration
I have 5 different calendars on my iMac. Somehow they morph together on the iPhone. Not cool.

Or just a google calendar app, which lets you have multiple calendars. Google actually has a web app out right now for iPhone, but currently you can only view, no editing.

E-mails to download BEFORE you want to read them.
With 8GB of space, why can’t the phone just download the e-mail in the background so I don’t have to wait for it to do so AFTER I have clicked on it.

Here is your answer: I would think this could only be done on wifi. When you are using edge it doesn't let you receive calls. If it was always spending a few minutes at a time downloading new emails in the background then people could miss a bunch of calls. I already miss enough calls, and I'm suspicious that it might be edge auto-searching for new emails for a few seconds. Who knows.

Ability to view shared files on wifi network.
I want my Microsoft word files, and I don’t want to have to get off the couch to have them.

Ability to stream all kinds of media would be great too. I would love to be able to have my iPhone hooked up to the tv now, pulling videos and music off my wireless file server. This would surely pull away from Apple TV sales though, so doubt it will happen.

Also, anyone else notice that the .com button on the keyboard expands now so you can see what you're pushing with your finger like the other buttons? I'm pretty sure it didn't do that before, along with the buttons right next to it. I could be wrong, but I thought that was something that I wanted fixed that was a minor bug.

It seems like Apple is working from the bottom up, improving minor issues in 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 and now moving up to more substantial issues. Eventually once they have the flow of the iPhone running as perfect as possible then they will get to work on the more intense applications. Wifi store is an exception though because it will make them lots of money. Just as long as they don't turn into Micro-you-know-who.

It's a good list so far, but here are my additions:

  1. Ability to select and delete multiple e-mails
  2. Support for contact groups with Outlook 2007

The the love of iPhones just put the damn MMS on this already! My mates £15 phone he got from Tesco can do MMS! And this is the most expensive phone ever!

MMS is the big one. It's been what? - over 3 months+ now.

iChat.

Those 2 things impact how I use the phone the most, forcing me to use email for photos (it works but not always practical) and forcing me to use a web app for something that Apple does well on their desktop and laptops.

A fixed calculator (there's a bug in the existing one).

Ability to have third-party apps.

Ability to add custom ringtones (not Apple's $0.99 ones).

Ability to remove Apple's WiFi iTune Store icon Adware from by SpringBoard.

I was one of the suckers that paid $599 for a iPhone. Now I have a buggy product and Adware staring at me. Why did I take the update? Shoot me now!!!

All of the above and Numbers or Filemaker
and
vcs. file support when attached to the email should update iCal on the iPhone, just like on the mac.

Much better use of multitouch... at the moment its just pinching for zooming, i would like to see 'twisting' for rotating photos.

plus a small drawing app

plus the ablilty to record video

The reason Apple (perhaps arrogantly) hasn't put MMS on the iPhone is because it probably believes MMS has a very limited lifespan, and in the future people will be mostly emailing much bigger files, more content-rich, to phones/emails in a universal email format instead of MMS (which displays different on different phones, networks, etc). They're just looking to the future, and trying to change things. I'm sure this will be the case in a couple of years from now, but right now, I think it was the wrong decision as people can't use either!

  • The ability to upload files to an Internet site.
  • "View Source" capability in Safari
  • Pinch-in and Pinch-out event notification in Java Script

Find/Search iPhone contacts

Find/Search in the iPhone contacts
.....would save the day for those of us a bad (old) memory...700 contacts and all I can remember is Jim's first name.

Ability to download podcasts via the new iTunes app
... It would be great to have all of my morning, must have, podcasts ready to go instead of having to break out the laptop and syncing before heading out the door.

File system so I can send high res photos to customers
...currently I have to use a work around by sending attachments to myself and forwarding them to customers.

A fixed calculator (there's a bug in the existing one).

I held my tongue when I read your original posting about this, but since you won't shut up about it, now complaining in new threads.....

GO BACK TO SCHOOL AND LEARN YOUR ORDER OF OPERATIONS!!!

You are wrong, now move along. Holy crap, some people's stubbornness just drives me crazy!

Find/Search in the iPhone contacts
.....would save the day for those of us a bad (old) memory...700 contacts and all I can remember is Jim's first name.

PLEASE!!! I need this search feature. Better yet, how about a global search, so it will show all relevant "key word" search results (just like Windows Mobile) in Contacts, iCal, iPod, Mail, etc.

I can't believe Apple didn't add this function. It's crazy when I have like 550 contacts and I need to look up the name of the guy that does insurance and I can't remember his name or his company name.

Ability to send same test message to more than one person!!!
CISCO/IPSec VPN support for college students!!!
Video recording for camera
Camera adjustment settings for different lighting etc...
Better Calculator wouldn't hurt
Support for widescreen in Email and text
Widescreen keyboard support for text
Bluetooth stereo support!!

My number one most wanted thing in an update is MMS SUPPORT please please please please apple add this feature all my past phones have had it and i really miss it and when i tell all my friends i cant receive picture messages they ask you bought a $600 phone and it doesnt even have picture messaging?? pretty much every new phone has that now come on

i would also like:
photo booth effects in the camera
ability to send one text to multiple people
typing text in landscape mode
higher volume (even higher than 1.1.1 update)
flash support

I would love a button in the safari web browser that you could enable that would only allow scrolling and zooming, not selecting hyperlinks. I don't know how many times I've been reading an article only to have it launch a link to some ad for low rate mortgages.

My next biggest would be GPS. Seeing where you are with GPS would be huge for international travelers using google maps.

Deleating emails one after the other is just silly, and takes forever.

Oh, and I will gladly give back YouTube if you will partner with sling media and allow me to watch my sling player on my iphone via wifi. If people can do this on their blackberry then we should be able to do it on the iphone.

Do you want a laptop or a phone?

I think this is what you should have purchased instead:

File System (Finder)
Please! Let us take our important documents and files with us on the go.

Better Exchange Support
Co-workers can still not get their phones to play nicely with Exchange. Whatever it takes Apple.

Better Outlook Support
Smart phones need functional calendars. This is a non-starter for any businessman.

Copy/Paste Functionality
Wouldn’t THIS be nice!?!

Flash Support
I want the ENTIRE internet in my pocket. Not the mobile internet. All of it.

Voice Dialing
Not a huge deal to me… but then again, most free phones have this functionality.

Ability to send more than one photo at a time via e-mail.
Why one? Why not three? Seven?

Ability to delete more than one e-mail at a time.

I won’t put real songs in there… I promise.

All those things are possible on a phone. Don't understand the judgement here.

Your reply makes no sense. Are all those things possible on a computer that can also be a phone? I'm not sure. The OP sure wants his "phone" to do a lot.

And, who's making a judgment?

I'd like to see the current running time of audio/video moved above the scrub bar. It is completely useless as it is since your finger covers the time if you're using the scrub bar. Additionally, the sensitivity of the bar needs to be decreased, by a lot.
