it's a shame the iphone 4's resale value is so low. I can't even cover the cost of this phone.
I actually sold my launch day and *mint* iPhone 4 (32 GB) just yesterday here in the Philippines for 10K pesos or $232 equivalent. Should cover most of the cost of a Nexus 4 16 GB. Of course, iPhones cost more here and resell value can still be high for a 3-yr old model. I will miss that iPhone 4 with double the storage but will welcome the Adreno 320 GPU with the Nexus 4. The iPhone 4 simply didnt age as well for me after iOS6 and the fact Subway Surfers, Sonic Dash, Despicable Me: Minion Rush, TURBO, Asphalt 7, etc have terrible lag and frame rates. iPhone 4's GPU just doesnt hold up anymore for many 2012-2013 games.

I would jump into this deal since I have been looking at the N4 as a backup phone even before the price drop. It closely matches my HTC One's dimensions except being a bit shorter but it should still fit into my holster case for my One nicely.

BUT, N4 lacks the durability. I have read too many horror stories of the glass back breaking easier than eggs if the temperature changes or whatever. N4 has a sexy design but I refuse to get another phone with a glass back as iP4/4s has a more durable glass back and still see many owners with cracked backs.

You get what you pay for.

Also where my HTC One lacks like removable battery, memory card slot, and great camera is where Nexus 4 lacks as well. Samsung Galaxy S4 is a better compliment to HTC One and maybe the best Android paired combo at the moment with both matching each other's dimensions just as closely in height and width. It would cost $300 more but One + S4 is more complimentary to each other's weaknesses.

I say to go for the deal just for a backup phone if you had the extra cash and cant afford another 2013 flagship like S4 or One, or just wait for the Nexus 5 announcement. This price cut is really to clear inventory.

Damn, even if it is a **** phone, I would pick it up as a beater, if it had LTE.

Looks like the Nexus 5 is around the corner

Isn't the number based on the screen size? Nexus 4 - 4" screen, Nexus 7 - 7" screen.

I think it'll still be the Nexus 4.

no one knows for certain. If it is based on the LG G2 is will probably be the nexus 5 and sport a 5" screen. If motorala makes the phone or the phone remains 4" it will most likely be the nexus 4 2, similar to the nexus 7 2

I'm looking forward to receiving my Nexus 4 but NOW i'm not sure if I want it. Is the glass cracking still a problem on this phone?

I've had mine for almost nine months, dropped it twice from just above waist height without any kind of case, and it still looks as good as new.

No more than cracked glass on an iPhone or iPad. Read up and you will find the glass has cracked on nearly every single phone that has a glass screen.

I even had one of those little Samsung flip phones back in the early 2000s crack.

I have owned my N4 for six months and it has no cracks. I have never had an iPhone that has cracked yet do a search on here for cracked glass for iPhones and iPads.

Thanks for the reassurances. I'm always uber careful with my stuff so a cracked screen should not be an issue for me. :)

For the phone line, it's based on generation. So it should be 5. The tablet nexuses (nexusi?) are based on screen size.

Wrong. They are all based on screen sizes.

The next Nexus smartphone will be a Nexus 4 second generation if screen size does not hit 5". If it does, it will be a Nexus 5.

So your saying the Nexus One had a 1" screen?
The phones aren't necessarily named by screen size.... Not that it even matters one bit. The Nexus 4 is a 4.7" screen. The Nexus S I believe has a 4" screen. The Galaxy Nexus is 4.65".

Nexus One was named after HTC's One line. Similar to how the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus take after Samsung's naming convention. The current generation Nexus devices appear to be named after screen size (N4 = 4 in; N7 = 7 in; N10 = 10 in), but the number could also serve as part of the branding.

Its 199 no contract. If you want something that has everything look at the HTC one or the galaxy s4.

I just don't see the point of having a smartphone if you're phone is missing so many things. But that's just my Steve Jobs fanboy speaking;

Which things is the Nexus 4 missing? LTE?

To compare, it is $549 for an unlocked, no contract iPhone 4s 16GB. Or you could go cheaper and pay $450 for an unlocked, no contract iPhone 4 8GB.

Either way, the Nexus 4 is better than or equal to either of these phones in most respects.

Wow that's funny because it's missing nothing the iphone has. If anything, the iphone falls short.

Or you could just make it so much less complicated and say IT'S THE 4RTH FREAKIN NEXUS smartphone. Also the nexus 4 is not 4 inches it's closer to 5.

Nope, you're both wrong. It's quite obvious really you just insist on making it more complicated then it has to be. It is the 4rth nexus smartphone. Nexus one, nexus s, samsung galaxy nexus, nexus 4. The next one will be called nexus 5. Simple. Logical.

Nexus 4 is not missing LTE. It has the antenna, which the 4s did not. Nexus 4 just doesn't allow you official LTE access but that can be circumvented.

I think the Nexus 4 name is based on the screen.

Yes, previous generations didn't follow that rule (One, S, Galaxy Nexus) but that's before the Nexus line grew to a Nexus family of devices.

It would only make sense for Google to proceed based on screen size since the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 are based that way. Why not the Nexus 4 and its future iterations? If it's based on generation, isn't that more confusing? Why only the smartphone? So the 6th generation Nexus, "Nexus 6" will be a 4-5" inch smartphone, while the Nexus 7 and 10 continue to be based on size? Doesn't make much sense. What about 7th, 8th, 9th generation? 9" Nexus smartphone?

Even if the Nexus 4 was named for its generation (I just think it was a happy coincidence), future Nexus smartphones will go based on screen size just like the other Nexus lines.

That's my prediction. Companies can change their minds and naming conventions.

Ah, I didn't realize that someone else had figured out a way to enable it after Google broke it a while back. Either way, stock the LTE radio doesn't function.

My main point is that even without that it easily beats iPhones priced $250-300 more.

well, like i said, on the last page, this phone does crack up more than my iphone. im not sure if the size has something to do with it. but mine landed on stone - the iphone probably would have cracked too.

at $200 you could buy three for the price of a top of the line sammy or htc...

i will say that brand new the glass is super slippery on the nexus 4.

You need to re-evaluate your understanding of logic if you think the description you provided qualifies.

Yes it's the 4th gen of Nexus phone but it also has a 4"+ size display and considering first, that the previous two generations were NOT called the Nexus 2 or Nexus 3 and second, the other two current Nexus devices are named based on their display size, it's far more logical that the third Nexus device would follow that same naming conventions. That's logical.

Couch is right--based on your logic, what happens after two more generations of the Nexus 4?

Another reason why Nexus S is not called Nexus 2 is because Eric Schmidt said Google would not release Nexus 2 shortly after releasing Nexus One. He was technically right ;)
