I am apple fan, I basically have all the stuff that apple made, and I am now waiting endlessly for the iMac.
However I was contemplating if to upgrade my iPhone 4 to 5, and then a friend sent me the article on nexus 4.

Guys I have to admit the competition is getting tougher.

First: the price , half! Of the iPhone.
Second: the size, no matter how apple advertise it but the shape of the iPhone 5 is odd.
It give the iPhone odd proportions,
Third: The look of the iPhone, ios wise is old, it is the same for few years now, while the nexus is new, and it seems that google is really trying to top itself every iteration.
And last is the desgin of the iPhone 5 no matter how you look it is the same as iPhone 4.
( a little thinner)
What do you say? Objectively...:)
A agree. There was no way I could pull the trigger on the iPhone 5, being such a modest upgrade. They got me with the 4S last year but not this time. (This coming from someone who had nothing but an iPhone since it debuted in 2007.)

I am loving my Nexus 4! After 10 days of using it it is hard to go back to the smaller screen on my iPhone 4S. The iPhone 5 is not a big enough increase in size to change that.

Every day I come across something I had been wanting on my iPhones, sometimes for years. The ability to immediately save a word that I re-correct is one of them. Power control toggles is another. I'm loving it!

As for no LTE... all I can say is so what? I use an average of 250MB of mobile data per month--and I don't try to conserve it. I would venture much of that usage is from iMessage and background email as I didn't browse much at all on the iPhone nor streamed any video. LTE would not save me any meaningful amount of time. Not like HSPA+ is a speed slouch either, for that matter.

Scrolling? The Nexus 4 does do it like my iPhones! That was very important for me. If you don't believe me watch as Chris Pirrillo goes ga-ga about it in this video:

Ya think? :)

Good lord I hope I was never bad about iOS.

Michael

I don't get why it's so hard for some people to accept that there's more than one good mobile platform. Some of the comments I've read are absolutely hilarious (and sad at the same time).

I think the Nexus 4 is a nice looking device, but objectively it is more in line with the iPhone 4S than the 5. No LTE, comparatively poor battery life, maximum of 16GB, and it benchmarks at ~1/2 of the 5 on most tests. In the US market anyways, for the majority of customers not on T-Mobile the price doesn't matter as the Nexus is actually more expensive than the iPhone on contract, and there is no plan discount for having an unsubsidized phone with most carriers.

Android is doing a great job at taking over the mass market, but if they want to make a dent in the top of the market, they are going to have to produce better devices than this one.

Your in denile if you seriously think the a6 is twice as fast as the s4 pro. In fact the s4 pro is quite a bit faster than the A6.

I guess that'll have to do. :( :D (I'm happy with my unlimited HSPA+ 3G to be perfectly honest). :p

Yet that's exactly what every review has shown for the majority of benchmarks. Sure, on the few that measure raw cpu speed, the S4 performs as expected, but on virtually every other benchmark where cpu is only part of the equation, ~50% of the iPhone 5 is just about where it benchmarks. Some of those are because of thermal throttling, but that's still the reality for the end-user.

One would have thought that all those with iPhone 4 and 4S without LTE wont be able to live with these (slow) speeds the way people are going on. There must be a whole load of these phones on E bay.

I didn't get near the same feel. It almost felt "sticky" on the nexus if that makes sense? I think it could have been the chrome browser though.

HSPA+ is way better overseas than in the US....unless you are on t-mobile in very specific locations. Those speeds you are getting mine as well be LTE though :)

It isn't that people can't live without LTE, it's that at this point in time, it's an obvious omission in a state of the art mobile device. Apple was given plenty of flack for leaving it out of the 4S over a year ago. I doubt it's a deal breaker for that many potential Nexus owners, but don't you think it'd be a bit odd if nobody mentioned its absence?

All you have to do is watch the video I linked to. It shows the scrolling very clearly. Mine works the same way.

Not if you live in the "rest of the world".

Mentioning it is one thing. But comments like this are absurd lol:
"Its a no brainer. iPhone 5 with LTE trumps every non LTE phone in my book."

I am very lucky to live in an area with good HSPA+ coverage I must admit. I do love the extra speed I've been getting though.:D

Yeah, if I was getting those speeds I would be ecstatic. I was getting around 3-6, which is a big difference from the 33 I get on LTE

No one is not mentioning, per se. In fact, a lot of people are still hoping the Nexus 4 can have LTE in some way or form (be it with carrier-specific versions down the line, or through a version with the potential Google/Dish LTE service).

The reason it might seem people are less critical of it compared to the iPhone 4S is because LTE still exists on Android. It's not like LTE is suddenly gone from Android and therefore people are back peddling and pretending it's not important. There are many other choices if LTE is that important.

The reason it was made a bigger fuss during the 4S release was because that was the only option. If you wanted an iPhone at that time you were not getting LTE, no if's and's or but's.

This applies to the use of glass, the lack of SD expansion, etc.; all these things are more critical when discussing the iPhone because there's usually no other option per Apple's decision. Only now do we get to choose between two different materials. Only now do we get to choose between two different screen sizes with the iPhone (both not even that different).

Yea well things were certainly easier with one phone per year. :)

Now I also want a Note 2, DNA.... maybe an S3.... good lord I can only imagine 2013! Any rumors on the next Nexus? ;)

If Google/Dish really roll out a carrier service mid-2013, as some rumors speculate, expect the Nexus 4 (2013) to have LTE. That's all I can surmise.

Wonder what Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie will bring...

I bought a nexus 4 coming from an iPhone 4S and it was one of the best decisions I've made. If you are coming from an iPhone 4 and you are willing to go through a slight learning curve, it is totally worth it.

Glad to hear that. How are you finding the battery to be now that you've recharged it a few times?

Battery wise I can say that after upgrading to ios6 I found myself recharging every few hours.
That is insane! And apple doesn't seems to care.

the Nexus 4 is really only gonna be a hit with Techies......

everyone else who is on contract will only see it as $150 more than an iPhone. in the US people still don't understand subsidies and the true cost of phones.

They will say....i can save $150 and get an iPhone 5, I can save $250 and get an iPhone 4s, or i can spend no money and get an iPhone 4.

Sucks, but just how it is. Don't get me wrong, it's a great price. But most people don't realize the true cost of an iPhone as really $650. They see the subsidized prices.
