Did they remove Exchange in the latest email app? I downloaded the leaked app, tried to set up my Hotmail and the Exchange option was missing, it was either POP or IMAP.

I use the m.hotmail.com exchange server to push my Hotmail.

When setting up my iCloud email account (this is just one example) in the stock email app, there is no option for push.

Works fine on an exchange server so must be an issue with your iCloud. The stock email app does support push.

No they didnt, if you installed the mail app apk you also needed to install the exchange services apk.

After doing some research on XDA, the stock email app only supports push for Exchange and nothing else. It does not appear to just be iCloud, it won't support push for any IMAP account.

So I think I am going to start my owe review thread in a couple of days after I used the phone more, but I will give my first impressions after 2 days.

Phone is really fast, and super easy to use. I have had all the nexus devices except the nexus one, so I pretty much knew what to expect. Battery is still up and down. Today has been good, but yesterday was not great. Camera is hit or miss, but much better than the nexus 4. Screen for me is pretty good. Getting more use to the warmer color or the whites. Over all I would recommend this to anyone. More to come in my own review. If you want me to cover anything specific let me know.

just popped in to say that my nexus 5 arrived today, and it is feckin awesome. the feel of the soft-touch back is so much nicer than samsung's plastics. i think aluminum is the best, but the slightly rounded corners add to the comfort. the screen is very much NOT washed out. it's just true color repo - not over saturated like sammy. it's not going to win any style awards, but really who cares? leave the flashy gold phones to people starved for attention. i'll report back on kitkat and bat life later.

question though, does the imei sticker peel off or what? i don't want to scratch it.

Hey guys

I'm loving my nexus so far.

I'm coming from a GS3 with CM10.2 ... I really liked the two features pictured here:
Slide to unlock into app
Long press home button and into app/widget
And slide along status bar to adjust brightness

Any way I can get these again? I'm rooted...

Thanks

Cyanogenmod devs are working CM11 as we speak. Shouldn't be long, but don't expect everything to work right away. It takes them time to get all the bugs squashed.

This is the best phone I have ever owned. I seriously have zero complaints.....battery life, camera, and display are all an upgrade from the n4 :D

plus it feels so good in hand (naked :O)

All of my pictures actually look better on HDR+ so I just leave it on.

Yep, that is what I have done as well. After doing side by side comparisons (with HDR+ on and off, as well as against other phones), I realized how inferior the regular camera is without HDR+ on. Not that I take pictures very often, but there is a markedly clear difference with HDR+ on, so I am keeping it on.

I've had the Nexus 5 since Tuesday.. Coming from the iP4 I think its a great device for the money.. cant believe the price on this in comparison to the iP5S.. under half the price!

BUT there are some little problems adding up that are making me consider the iP5S..

1. Brand new phone, downloaded Viber, a top 20 free app and it crashes with an error every time I try to send a picture..
2. When connected to my BT speaker I try to change the volume with the onscreen volume scale and it jumps up to full volume then proceeds to jump all over the place.
3. Multitask to browse away from a webpage when you return it reloads the page and puts you back to the top.. annoying if your reading a long page.
4. Hangouts is the most shocking area of the phone.. confusing for me..
5. The phone dialler is terrible.. Took me a while to work out how to edit a contact.. no favourites as far as I can see..
6. I miss badges on my icons and notifications in my lock screen
7. When playing music the notifications interrupt the music.. literally stops the music, plays the notification sound then starts the music again.. no way to stop this unless you put the phone in silent.
8. The speaker is terrible, regularly miss messages.. and I used to play music through the speaker occasionally and the loudness is ok on the N5 but the quality is terrible at volume.
9. When playing videos, youtube etc they look terrible? Not sure if its the 1080p screen bringing out the worst in them.. but I'm sure on the iPhone they looked substantially better.. perhaps its just 1080p + larger screen.
10. I have big hands but its still a chore to use a phone this size in one hand.. cant imagine what the note etc is like.. I think Apple will bring the iP6 in at 4.5" or there abouts this would be the ideal size.
11. Camera is dog slow.. its like going back 5 years.. its so slow I'm put off even trying to capture anything but a static shot
12. Sound quality through headphones.. initially I think it sounds fairly poor but I will do a side by side with my iP4 to confirm.
13. The calendar.. Does anything actually like this? iOS7 really nailed this area and after using that since its release seeing 4.4's calendar is a confusing and poor implementation.
14. Battery life is ok, not amazing but standard for this level of phone, but the charging time is long.. just seems to take a long time to juice up.
15. I've been treating this phone like a princess.. I always use my phones naked but I'm careful.. after 3 days use I already have cluster of small scratches.. I thought GG3 was bleeding edge in terms of scratch resistance.. borderline "sure throw it in your pocket with your keys" territory.. but I've been putting it in my pocked screen side inwards and I have scratches..

I am trying my best to bond with it.. the screen is amazing and for consuming webpages and social media etc its epic.. the speed is good etc.. got another week and a half to come to a conclusion, keep it or return and pickup a iP5S..

It comes down to budget and preference really.. If you're tight on money then the N5 is the best phone on the market, but if you come from iOS and have the money then I think the iP5S is the one for you.

If you like taking pictures/video get the iP5S.. don't consider any other phone out right now.

Viber crashing could be b.c it does not have 4.4 support. I'm shocked you have scratches as I have none. Business calendar is better than the stock one. Try nova prime to get your badge notifications.

So I watched the Android Central podcast last night and as expected most of it focused on the Nexus 5. What was surprising to me was the near unanimous consensus from all four participants while the Nexus is nice, there really isn't anything about it that would make them choose it over another phone--no one factor that separates it from others. All were having mixed results with battery life (on par or worse than most current flagships), camera was better than the Nexus 4 but still just OK (HDR+ was great but Auto mode was terrible), build was good, but not the best, same for the display.

What else surprised me was that if push came to shove, they'd all choose the Moto X--it was nearly a veritable Moto X love fest. In fact, an interesting scenario came up when discussing the markup at retail locations. If it was between a Nexus 5 at $499 for the 32GB or $549 for the Moto X developer edition (also 32GB), what would you choose? Support leaned toward the Moto X.

I don't have a Nexus 5 so I won't begin to pass any sort of judgement about it but was curious about everyone here's take on this.

Hmm, my experience using both an iphone 5s and nexus 5 at the same time are different in some ways, but I agree on some points.

1) Can't comment, haven't tried that app
2) I don't have that issue with the N5, the only issue I have is that the N5 never remembers my BT volume, even between calls with the headset never having been disconnected. It's annoying.
3) Hmm, I haven't seen this, it's in Chrome?
4) Hangouts is indeed confusing, it doesn't take much to learn it, but it's different enough from a traditional text messaging program that it might turn off new users who don't understand the group texting concept, especially since it's much easier on iOS IMO.
5) I had the same issues with the phone dialer. There are favorites, they are just kind of hidden and you have to learn how to work the dialer on, or slide it down to expose contacts. It's kind of neat, but I'd much rather have iOS as a dialer, no nonsense just gets things done. Additionally the on call screen on iOS is MUCH more useful, you get these huge buttons that allow you to change headset/speaker, etc for example, where in Android they are very small buttons on the bottom, and it's only one button with a dropdown list of possible options, not exactly conducive to taking a call at 80 mph.
6) Badges and notifications are nice in iOS, IMO the parallel in Android is widgets which let you see more information than badges at a glance. There are also a lot of non-root programs to get you lockscreen notifications.
7) Notification interruptions in android. This is a HUGE annoyance, it's something that is so absurdly unpolished and embarrasing for Android IMO. One example different than yours is if I'm using Google Navigation and in a phone call the navigation will keep spitting out directions interrupting the conversation. On iOS it intelligently mutes the navigation if you are on a phone call, no hassle it just does it automatically.
8) I wouldn't say the speaker is "terrible", but it's definitely below average.
9) Videos and youtube look fantastic on the N5 to me, the screen blows away the iphones screen IMO.
10) I have medium to large hands and have no issues using it one handed, although it's not as comfortable as using an iphone one handed, it's still quite feasible IMO. I can hold it in my palm and reach my thumb all the way across the screen, the only area where I can't quite reach is if I'm holding it right handed I can't quite reach the left top corner with my thumb.
11) Camera is slow, but I always thought the camera on my ip5 was very slow as well, both of them are too slow to catch my kid jumping around.
12) Sound quality thru bluetooth headphones is superb, in contrast sound quality thru bluetooth headphones on my ip5s is kind of crappy, no bass at all and very treble heavy. I haven't tested wired headphones, haven't used wired in years.
13) IMO iOS not only did NOT nail the calendar, they butchered it. Not even talking about that awful white on off white scheme where you can't even see anything. In month view you can't see appointments, only these cryptic dots, I can go on but it's pretty terrible. Now the calendar on the N5/android isn't great either, in fact it's kind of sucks as well, but it's nowhere near the level of atrocity that the iOS calendar is.
14) Battery life, anecdotally, seems much better than my ip5s which is atrocious. I can just look at my ip5s sideways and it loses 10%. You have a good point though, the ip5s charges up super quickly where the N5 is not necessarily slow, but typical for a phone.
15) The N5 isn't too bad with scratches, but I'm suspicious of any phones. My old ip5 was beat to crap, especially the chamfered edges, for being an aluminum phone I thought I owned a phone made out of tissue paper. I'm hoping my ip5s is stronger as I see they changed the anodizing process or something.

In the end I don't think money should necessarily be a concern. There are things the N5 is a better phone at, but I guess the question is if you have $700 to burn is there a better android phone? I'd almost say the LG G2, but that has it's own set of achilles heels. I'm in the exact same dilemma as you, I have an ip5s and a N5, love them both, and can't decide which to use. I don't have to sell one, and the one I don't use will probably just go in a drawer as a back up phone to be used occasionally for fun.

A number of your issues are related directly to that difference in cost - the N5 simply doesn't have the higher-end components (in the case of camera and speaker) that the iP5S does, and there will be tradeoffs - either you will have to spend more or you will have to deal with less. To put it another way, you can get a 16GB new iPad mini and a 16GB N5 for the cost of a 32GB iP5S. That price difference justifies a fair bit.
1. Brand new phone, downloaded Viber, a top 20 free app and it crashes with an error every time I try to send a picture..
That's a Viber issue with 4.4, and one I'd expect to be fixed shortly. I'm not sure why you're including this here.
2. When connected to my BT speaker I try to change the volume with the onscreen volume scale and it jumps up to full volume then proceeds to jump all over the place.
I don't see this with my BT speaker. However, I'm sure it will be fixed in the same way that, when iOS6 made it impossible for my 4S and my wife's 5 to connect to our car BT, it was fixed.
3. Multitask to browse away from a webpage when you return it reloads the page and puts you back to the top.. annoying if your reading a long page.
I have never seen this, ever. I can't even reproduce it after trying. If by some chance you're looking at a web page that auto-refreshes, that might explain it.
4. Hangouts is the most shocking area of the phone.. confusing for me..
How so? It works pretty much like any other chat/SMS app I've ever used on either platform.
5. The phone dialler is terrible.. Took me a while to work out how to edit a contact.. no favourites as far as I can see..
How so? There's a keypad you use, just like any other dialer. Editing contacts is different than iOS, agreed. And confusing when coming from iOS - but not difficult once you know how. I miss favorites, but you can add contacts to the home screen and put them in a folder, effectively giving the same options. Plus, I'm sure there's an app for that. I just don't use it.
6. I miss badges on my icons and notifications in my lock screen
Me too, but, as noted, there are launchers for that feature.
7. When playing music the notifications interrupt the music.. literally stops the music, plays the notification sound then starts the music again.. no way to stop this unless you put the phone in silent.
I prefer this, but I certainly can see why you wouldn't. I just like that it makes the notifications more noticeable.
8. The speaker is terrible, regularly miss messages.. and I used to play music through the speaker occasionally and the loudness is ok on the N5 but the quality is terrible at volume.
It's not terrible, although it's not iPhone-quality for sure. To me, it's serviceable, but I'd not listen to music on it.
9. When playing videos, youtube etc they look terrible? Not sure if its the 1080p screen bringing out the worst in them.. but I'm sure on the iPhone they looked substantially better.. perhaps its just 1080p + larger screen.
This is absolutely untrue. Maybe you've been looking at videos that look OK only on a tiny screen, but I'm definitely seeing HD on mine when looking at HD videos.
10. I have big hands but its still a chore to use a phone this size in one hand.. cant imagine what the note etc is like.. I think Apple will bring the iP6 in at 4.5" or there abouts this would be the ideal size.
I agree that the size might be too much for some, although I've also used the N3 and liked it. It's definitely a different feel than the iPhones, and I understand why some would prefer smaller. I left the iPhone for the opposite reason - I wanted a bigger screen.
11. Camera is dog slow.. its like going back 5 years.. its so slow I'm put off even trying to capture anything but a static shot
You don't remember 2008 very well, then. The iP5S camera is definitely better for photos. Period. I think the N5 is better for hand-held videos when it comes to jitter, due to OIS, but otherwise not as good.
12. Sound quality through headphones.. initially I think it sounds fairly poor but I will do a side by side with my iP4 to confirm.
I think it's roughly as good but slightly inferior. Again, remember, with the price difference you can throw in an iPad mini.
13. The calendar.. Does anything actually like this? iOS7 really nailed this area and after using that since its release seeing 4.4's calendar is a confusing and poor implementation.
This could be true - I don't use calendars.
14. Battery life is ok, not amazing but standard for this level of phone, but the charging time is long.. just seems to take a long time to juice up.
Might be your charger - iPhone and Android devices use different standards. My N5 charges quickly with the included charger. If your charger is the included one, then I'd also note that the N5 battery is a lot bigger than the iPhone ones, and so it will, of course, take longer to charge. Agreed that life could be better.
15. I've been treating this phone like a princess.. I always use my phones naked but I'm careful.. after 3 days use I already have cluster of small scratches.. I thought GG3 was bleeding edge in terms of scratch resistance.. borderline "sure throw it in your pocket with your keys" territory.. but I've been putting it in my pocked screen side inwards and I have scratches...
I see none on mine, and I've had it in my pocket for six days now.
If you like taking pictures/video get the iP5S.. don't consider any other phone out right now.
If you're comparing only the N5 and iP5S, I completely agree. If you're comparing the iP5S to any other phone out there, I disagree.

What else surprised me was that if push came to shove, they'd all choose the Moto X--it was nearly a veritable Moto X love fest. In fact, an interested scenario came up when discussing the markup at retail locations.

I see the MX as a very, very strong contender, and if there were a $50 difference, I'd likely pick it. Better battery, competitive everywhere else. The N5 screen is better, but I can see the love for the MX.

One example different than yours is if I'm using Google Navigation and in a phone call the navigation will keep spitting out directions interrupting the conversation. On iOS it intelligently mutes the navigation if you are on a phone call, no hassle it just does it automatically.
Here, in only this case, I disagree. It's very easy to mute directions, but, if I'm not looking at the screen and instead am on a call, but am still using navigation, I want to hear the directions. Otherwise, why be in the navigator with audible directions enabled in the first place?

Well anything really is user preference, I'm just stating that for me it's completely awful to be in the middle of a business or patient conversation and have the phone blare out at me to turn right at x street. The reason you would be in the navigator is quite simple, humans are born with eyes and that means I can still glance down and see where I need to turn. Yes it's safer to use the audible directions, but sometimes you just can't do that, as in when you get a phone call while driving.

In that sense, and for MY uses, iOS is just much much more intelligent. I've always noted that iOS is MUCH better for the basic core "phone" functions than Android and I'm not really seeing Android trying to improve that much. Doesn't mean I don't love my N5 or that I don't love Android, I do, it's just that in that particular case iOS is more intuitive to my needs. There are lots of little quirks like that in Android, quirks that in many cases iOS anticipates and smooths out.

I do agree, in almost all cases, that iOS is better at phone-related activities, often by far. I think it's difficult to argue otherwise, actually.

I just happen to disagree with the navigation muting, especially since I think it's not a good idea to have navigation on unless you've got the phone mounted - looking down is a bad idea. And, if you've got it mounted, I can see just leaving audio forever muted (I tend to). Still, yes, I can see being irked at the interruption, and I do understand your point. :)

Yah just different strokes is all. You are right, I shouldn't be looking at my screen while doing 80mph and talking to someone on the phone, we'll just keep that our secret.... :D

Looks like the nexus 5 has a lot of lag and can hardly keep up with the iPhone.
