Nexus 5 or iphone 5S?

Im getting a free upgrade today so a free phone, sweet, Im so happy. Can finally dump this outdated POS iphone 4 with a home button that keeps stop working on and off.

Heres my situation. I have currently ipad mini retina and ipad air, and Mac at home.

Saw the Nexus 5 and was impressed. Mainly want it for the 5" screen over the ip5 4".

If I went with Nexus phone, would it be dumb to have Apple tabs? I was told to stick with one brand for both cause when it comes to syncing and updating and apps and switching between the two, it will be less troublesome.

Also, if I went with IP5S, my concern is that the screen upgrade wont be enough over my current IP4.

And when is the IP6 suppose to be out? If its true it will have a 5" screen then maybe i should wait for that instead of getting IP5S? Cause IP5 is already a year old if not more.

I would get the iPhone 5S, sell it and buy the Nexus 5 and pocket the difference.

I use Android phones but everything else is Apple, I have no problem syncing etc using Google.

Just curious why you choose android phones over apple? Also, is the resale value on iphone 5S even there? Cause i actually would have to pay a bit out of my own pocket if i wanted iphone 5S today.

I bought it when I had an iPhone 5 and it's a pretty big upgrade over the 5, so will feel awesome coming from a 4. My colleague at work went from a 4 to a 5s and she really likes it.

Sorry, I thought that you would get both free on an upgrade.

I have had iPhones from the 3GS up to and including the iPhone 5, I prefer the larger screens of the Android phones I have had and TBH, IMHO IOS has become a bit boring for me.

Don't get me wrong, an iPhone is still a superb device, ATM though, I just prefer my Nexus 4 and SGS4.

I would only buy the iPhone 5S to sell and order an unlocked Nexus 5. If you're able to make $$ on the deal.

If it's a 4 (non S) it's a HUGE upgrade. iOS7 barely runs on a vanilla 4, plus you get Siri which I absolutely love.

I had a nexus 5 and a 5s for a while so I can compare the 2. The screen on the N5 is beautiful, no way around that. But iOS is polished to the max in terms of functionality, everything just works where on Android you will constantly be finding these little turds of disfunctionality (is that a word?). For me I needed a phone/personal assistant first, and a gaming/internet browser second so I chose the iphone. But if your needs are more screen centric then I wouldn't blame you for getting the N5.

Another factor to consider is the camera on the ip5s is much nicer, it's nicer in low light, and it's a LOT nicer in terms of catching moving images. The N5 was pretty useless with anything moving, like my toddler, but otherwise it shot great pics, but that was a dealbreaker for me. Also low speaker volume on the N5 wasn't appealing. The hope is that both of these will be addressed with a software update by google.

Battery life alone is worth the upgrade over the 5 not to even talk of the 4. My 5s dumps on any smartphone I've ever owned when it comes to battery. Even the Note 3.

Really? I could never get a full day with heavy use on my i5 which is why I had a mophie case on it (the wife still has an i5). My note 3 is absolutely insane with battery life, I charge it every 2 days, or 1.5 with heavy usage.

The 5 or the 5s? because there is a huge difference. The battery life on my iPhone 5 is ho hum at best but on the 5s, I can go a whole day easy and still have over 40% left at the end of the day. My Note 3 is almost as good as well but it drains quicker when both are sitting idle.

Wouldn't of thought that an extra 140 ma would've made that big of a difference, especially when you take into account ios7 consumes more battery

^^ this. I'm a Note 3 owner and coming from a 4s, it blow is away in terms of battery life. Can't see the minor bump in battery life iPhones have had coming anywhere near it.

There isn't a direct correlation between mAh and battery life. Just because the increase in mAh is modest from the 5 to the 5S doesn't necessarily mean the battery life increase will only be modest.

That all being said, I've found my 5S to be on par, sometimes worse, than my 5 as far as battery life goes. Though, it also does a lot more intelligent updating of apps and data.

My biggest issue is the consistency - somedays, my 5S is an absolute beast when it comes to battery life....others its only mediocre. I'm not a heavy user, so mediocre is even fine for my uses.....just wish it was more consistent.

There have been times where I'd go multiple days without charging my 5s....some times where I've had to charge before the day was up - my use case doesn't really vary that much either.

Are you sure you are talking about iOS 7?? I've found more crashes and bugs in iOS 7 than in any other iOS. Some weird behaviour as speakers not working, sound in headphones with a lot of noise, Safari crashing unexpectedly, freezing, etc...

TBH I don't enjoy iOS as I used to. Its not as stable and simple as it used to be. In the other hand I found KitKat as a big leap forward for android. The gap is closing amazingly fast. I don't know... I wouldn't use that argument when comparing an iPhone and a Vanilla Android phone.

Just for clarification, I do use the Note 3 a whole lot more than any other device I own and none of my observations were properly gauged. It was just that .... more of an observation.

The Note 3 could more than likely out do the 5s but one thing I'm very certain of, when both are sitting idle; wifi enabled, full sync, notifications galore.... The 5s is very power efficient and hardly uses any battery whatsoever. My Note probably drains 6 - 7% in about 4 hrs while the 5s drains about 1% if that. I guess this is where I keep noticing better battery life overall.

Btw - iPhone 5 is running 7.0.4 while the 5s is still on 7.0.3 so I don't know if this makes a difference.

I believe he is mostly referring to google now functionality. He has a real boner for Siri. Long commuter I believe.

I have my complaints about iOS, but stability has never been one of them. No issues with iOS7 so far in all honesty. I despise the incredibly ugly color scheme and questionable functionality of things like the calendar app, but it's all been super stable. I have found that when apps don't work they force quit right away, and I do see this but very rarely.

KitKat is awesome, I definitely miss it. But as I mentioned it's those stupid little things that I need for day to day phone use that Android refuses to polish. Just tiny little things that make a big impact. Overall I agree that KitKat is nicer than iOS, especially after the horrible design decisions they made in iOS7, but in many ways it's still not as polished.

Yah pretty much, Siri just works better for my needs and is pretty hands off. Honestly Android isn't that far away and I could have made it work, the Nexus 5 is a pretty awesome phone. Also the camera and speaker scared me away though. In all honesty if the camera and speaker on the N5 were as good as the iphone I think I would have kept it and worked around the little unpolished turds in Android.

But it's more than just that. I've put out my examples many times and don't feel like reiterating them though.
