Camera-wise, definitely THE best (not taking the 808 into account), albeit, if you need video, the Note 3 can be a better choice.

Otherwise, the 1020 has a pretty dated hardware and, just like iOS, a closed-garden OS.

All in all, personally, I wouldn't buy it. Waiting for the next Nokia imaging flagship with up-to-date hardware.

----------

Again:

- if you need Android, then, the Note 3 / LG G2 is definitely a better choice than the N5, as long as you don't need Qi (again, which is possible with the Note3), SlimPort or frequent and prompt OS upgrades.

- iOS phones are entirely different animals. I personally don't prefer iOS to Android / Symbian but I do need to admit that there are some games (e.g., Spectromancer) that don;t exist on Android. Also, for the tech-unsavvy folks (Apple's main target people), iOS devices can be the easiest to learn / operate as they're made to be overly simple. All in all, if you absolutely need iOS, then, you'll need to accept it simply doesn't have the goodies current Android / WP handsets have. Nevertheless, as long as iOS-only devices are concerned, the 5s is a high-end phone.

1020 with quad core and 1080p?

Wow... logic and reading comprehension fail. I've made my point so I'll move on.

Why choosing N5?

memory cannot be extended through Micro SD port

**** Google for such deals

they want same things as Apple, catch people in their future gilded cage

thanks to other brands like Samsung, Sony for releasing smartphones with Micro SD port included

I have both nexus 5 and iPhone 5S. I carry both of them all the time.

My thoughts.

1. Camera. 5S wins hands down. 5s is probably best camera outside of Nokia lumia 1020. Yes. I also owned Note 3 briefly and samsung cameras aren't there yet (in my opinion). Still note 3 has very good camera. Just not there with iPhone cameras.

2. Form factor. Surprisingly nexus 5 feels excellent and smaller than its 5 inch screen size. I like the grip of the nexus 5 better than iPhone 5S. 5 inch vs 4 inch screen. All a matter of personal needs. iPhone 5S seemed brighter. Nexus 5 is sharp but slightly washed out color. Nexus 5 has 1080p (440-450ppi?). Not a difference compared to iPhone 5S retina 316 ppi

3. iOS vs android. Again a matter of personal tastes. Android 4.4 is really nice. I am original android 1.0(G1) user as well iPhone 1.0 user. Android has come a long way. Now it's ios7 that feels buggier. Safari crashes at least 7 times a day on me. I am heavy user. Nexus 5 chrome probably crashes around 4-5 times a day. Safari is still faster than chrome.

4. Battery life. Both phones survive a full work day for me. I get a good 6 hours of real time heavy use and about 8-9 hours standby time.

5. Price. $350/399 16gb/32gb nexus 5 vs ($650/750) 16/32gb.

What the heck. Just get both. I did.

I believe it's the colors they chose in the new theme... they have this "throwback 50's" type of vibe to them (or is it the 70's? :)). Washed out would be one way to describe them... but that's not to say the display is washed out, just the theme has a more understated look to it.

The display is actually very accurate. Just thought you might want an explanation:

It’s interesting to hear some Nexus 5 users complain that the display seems undersaturated, since that kind of end user feedback reflects subjective comparison. It also suggests to me that a large percentage of the population doesn’t know what some colors or system elements actually should be. Even for me, looking at the green elements inside the Google Play store on the Note 3 in movie mode or Nexus 5 initially seemed slightly more muted than normal. The reality is that this is what they actually should look like. We’ve just become accustomed to their oversaturated appearance on virtually every other device.

This kind of expectation about what looks right and what doesn’t is rather telling for the state of display calibration in Android handsets, and how OEMs have used oversaturated colors to increase retail shelf appeal. Unfortunately the reality is that oversaturated colors do seem to win taste tests among shoppers, the same way that TVs in most big boxes do. We’ve been looking at them for so long that well calibrated displays like Nexus 5 initially do look noticeably different.

Well, that may work for you, but i see absolutely no reason to carry two phones unless one is personal, one is for work. Two for personal use is ...well, im not knocking you, but its kinda silly imo. But thats me. Some people just love having a bunch of gadgets, i get that. I could never go back to a 4" screen though. The iPhone is tiny.

On another note, i like the Nexus 5 screen it is real nice and even though it is 445 ppi, i think the human eye cant see above a certain level so it could be 1000 and you wouldnt see a difference. I don think it is washed out but comparing it to my GS3, i do like the colors on my GS3 better but i can see things on my screen better in the sunlight on my Nexus and thats a big deal to me.

By "up to date for 2013" you mean a 2011 processor and display? I think you are confusing features for technology. Even at that, the features like active display and voice controls are cool but aren't revolutionary.

Uh ok. So in your terms the next 10 years of smartphone evolution looks like a +x inch on the display and x amount of Mhz on the processor every year. Explains everything.

Wow... logic and reading comprehension fail. I've made my point so I'll move on.

Again, let me explain what I mean.

1, I'm certainly aware of iDevices' having a vastly inferior feature set (and, in many respects, even inferior specs) compared to top Android handsets. This is why I've compiled the list of "in which ways are iOS / iPhone 5s behind the competition" list above.

2, however, if an iOS fan wants to get an iPhone and definitely not an Android or a WP8 flagship, then, he surely won't get anything else, despite the hardware and the feature set being vastly inferior. This is why I've also called the iPhone 5s high-end.

3, among Android devices, particularly with the smallish (see my 150 euro figure above) price difference between the Note 3 and the Nexus 5 in countries w/o direct Google Nexus 5 offers, the Note 3 is definitely superior to the N5, except for some (for me, not very important, WRT the superiority of the camera / pen) areas.

Apparently. Because you know, cramming GHz and cores and mAh into a phone is futuristic and using a 3-processor custom platform (Moto X) isn't!

Umm, its not a Krait 300. Its a 28mm Snapdragon S4 Pro that came out in early 2012. My point being, its a good 2 generations outdated. Nowhere close to being "up to date 2013" tech.

Moto x definitely has dual core krait 300 CPUs contained in its snapdragon s4 pro chip. Unique hardware no one else seems to be using. Its more like a dual core s600 than a s4 pro.

Believe it was the anandtech review that covered this.
