I was really looking forward to an MLB At Bat type of app, but its no surprise that the NHL is way behind. We aren't even on a real TV network.

Looks like our dreams have come true -- at least our dreams of NHL GameCenter Live on the iPad!

According to GameCenter Live Support it's coming by the start of the season on Oct 7!

This would get me excited but the rules / contacts the NHL has with the TV networks makes it almost impossible to watch my home town team.

(Let's go Wild!!)

From their website -

Can I watch my local team play?

Due to local blackout rules and regulations, games broadcasts that are available to watch on television in your local market and nationally televised games are not available to watch live or within 48 hours of game completion in NHL GameCenter LIVE™ (see below for other blackout scenarios).

Why am I unable to watch a game in NHL GameCenter LIVE™?

A game may not be available to watch live or within 48 hours of completion if it meets any of the below criteria:

1. Your local team is playing and televising the game on a local over-the-air station and you are located within that station's signal.
2. Your local team is playing and televising the game on a local regional sports network and your cable or satellite system falls within the distribution for that local regional sports network (regardless of whether your cable or satellite system actually carries that regional sports network.)
3. Your local team is playing and there is no local television coverage of the game
4. The game is being televised nationally - In the U.S., this includes NBC, Versus, and the NHL Network. In Canada, this includes CBC, TSN, and the NHL Network.

I got this in an email from NHL GameCenter Live email support:

You can access the radio feeds through GameCenter Live even for blackout games. The iPhone app will only have live scores and notifications, but no live audio or video content. The iPad application is free, and you can link it to your online Gamecenter account to view on-demand video and listen to live audio. The Playstation 3 app will cost $10.00 through the PSN store, and you can access live video and radio through it. The apps will all be released on October 7th to their respective app stores.

The iPhone app is live. The iPad app can't be far behind.

It looks like the NHL GameCenter Premium 2010 is finally out, but that app is mainly for radio and condensed games. $19, too.

Has anyone purchased this and also running the beta? Curious to know if this includes AirPlay support like MLB.tv.

I'm wondering if/when they will release the NHL GameCenter LIVE 2010 app, which includes live games. It's $79 for Verizon phones.

Update: Oops, just saw this was in the iPhone/iPod touch section, my bad.
