Yes, they blackout local games.

Thanks. I'm 2 1/2 hours away from the Hurricane's RBC Center in Raleigh, yet I'm considered local.

For MLB, I'm considered local for the Nationals and the Orioles! They gotta come up with a better system. They're forcing me to subscribe to cable and it's not gonna happen. Even then, TWC doesn't carry MASN so I still couldn't even watch the games which is why I dropped cable in the first place! Ahhhhhhh. But I digress...

Glad to see the ATV get some quality functions out of this update. Hope you boys enjoy it!

Yes, they blackout local games.

Until they stop this local team blackout horse-pucky, I shall continue my monetary blackout of all these sports services. Yes, that includes cable.

And ditto on being able to pay per game...

Good luck with that. I don't see blackouts ending anytime soon.

I find some games are better quality than others, doesn't matter if I'm on ATV or PS3. Some will almost appear to "strobe" or flash a lot, and sometimes it skips or jumps back 30 seconds or so...was doing that a lot last night.

Highlights are free, so you can sort of test it out. $160 goes up to $170 November 1st.

This is my first year with GCL, but easily worth it in my opinion, but i watch a lot of hockey. If you sign up on the NHL web site, you can do $20/month for 8 months. I will never have cable again.

Beware, it will auto renew next season, so mark it in your calendar to re-evaluate if you still want it, I hear it's a bitch to get refunds from these guys.

The iPhone app is hit and miss...I couldn't get any live games on it for a couple hours last night, and then I tried later on and watched the end of 3 games live. Plus you have to constantly log in.

I've been a Center Ice subscriber for many years, first on Dish but that last couple on Direct. I really love CI, and DTV has plenty of games in HD!

I've already paid for CI this season.

Updating ,my ATV2 I find this NHL GameCenter....looks pretty cool! Standings, game highlight replays, looks like with a subscription you can pick a game to watch live or go back and watch one you missed. I'm not paying another $160. Maybe next season.

All I've done so far is watch the highlights, since I don't have a subscription. The Stars game was fine, but Wednesday's Bruins game was jittery, jerky, and stalled to load a few times. I find the picture quality to be much better than SD, but nowhere close to what I'm getting from Center Ice.

I've also read elsewhere that blackouts on GC are worse than they are on CI. Seems to be arbitrarily enforced with varying distances, market accessibility, etc....stupid ass blackout rules piss me off anyway. I'm paying good money to watch the games, let me see them.

Anyway...no real point to this post...other than I'm gonna watch this thread to see people's opinions on the service as the season progresses.

Now only if they could get NFL. That would be big.

maybe it stutters if your broadband connection isn't all that great?
Huge!

Getting the NFL on devices like the Apple TV will continue to erode the power of the cable companies. Its nice to see their monopoly powers being weakened, even if it is slight.

I'm happy this was added, but shocked at the price. I paid $100 for MLB. Not sure why the NHL is $160. I was thinking it'd be half that. I'll get it though, lol.

Out of all the leagues MLB is by far the best with their sports packages, better quality and less expensive, just look at the networks, MLB network is great, the other ones are a joke

Yeah, the NFL package, Sunday Ticket, is $300+ to renew....I had it last year but passed on it this year.

yeah its not smooth, small stuttering happens.

The stuttering is worse on some games more than others. With that said, it's just as noticeable on my Roku as it is on my ATV2, so it's not just and ATV2 problem. Perhaps the chips in each system are not all that good for rapid panning. MLB TV does not have much of a stuttering problem, but with baseball, there is not a whole lot of rapid movement compared to hockey.

I did a little experiment with my ATV2. First I watched the game directly through the ATV2. Definitely can see some stuttering. Next I used my iPad to airplay the game to my ATV2 using the iPad app, no stuttering whatsoever. Seems the ATV2 needs a little fine tuning. the iPad 1 can stream 720p via airplay, so the HD quality is just as good as ATV2, without the stuttering.

I found that occasionally, while watching a game, the ATV will quit back to the game list for no apparent reason.

Not a big issue, but rather annoying, and it usually only happens once per game.

I noticed that too. It happens when they go to commercial. But it doesn't do that when I stream from my iPad to the ATV2.

Yes. If you buy the one on NHL.com ... some cable companies sell other stuff, don't buy that.

I did a little more experimenting because it baffled me that I could stream from iPad to ATV2 without any stuttering while the ATV2 stuttered by itself. I have my ATV2 connected to my AEBS via ethernet. So I disconnected the ethernet cable and connected to the AEBS via wifi. Voila, stuttering gone. Oddly, when I stream via wifi to my Roku it stutters, but connected via ethernet, no stuttering.

Thanks r.j.s!!! Do you know if I would also be able to view muliple games at the same time on the other devices specifically ATV2 and PS3??? On the website they advertise being able to watch 4 games at once in a "Multi game view" or is that a feature only for watching on the computer???

I don't see the ability to do that on ATV, and I don't own a PS3, so I don't know.
