Airport Extreme Base Station

Ahhhh ok, I have one too. And I also tried to connect my apple tv 2 via ethernet, but the games keep stottering. So thats no solution for me. I guess it's just an issue with the apple CPU which is not strong enough

I think fast moving sports is showing the limitations of streaming on such devices as the ROKU and ATV2, whereas a PS3 is designed for games and fast motion and can handle streaming much better. I don't think NFL football would look that good on ATV2 or ROKU right now.

I think thats a good point!

The Multi-game view is only on computer...it's kinda neat, but each little window is low quality. I do use the dual game view often though. but I find ps3 and iPad have the best quality. My computer doesn't seem to buffer properly...I hate Flash.

Yeah next Tue Thur and Sat are loaded nights too! Season is well underway!!

Yep! I'm glad to get it all on the ATV2!

It appears the update to 4.4.2 has made NHL streaming much smoother. Also noticed when it goes to commercial break, it actually goes to commercials now, and not the the game will resume shortly static display.

I've noticed that it does that when you watch the away feed.

I noticed the same too on away broadcasts. Just updated to 4.4.2 right before tonight's game. (Glad it didn't brick on me). I'll see how it looks at the next home game.

NHL on Apple Tv is unheard of for $160

I bought gamecenter at the start of the season and I use it primarily on the Apple TV. Depending on which TV station is responsible for the broadcast the broadcast quality can change however every game I have seen has been in HD. I don't know about everyone else, but where I live, $160 would be 2 months of my cable bill and I would only get my local team's game. With Gamecenter you get full HD, PVR Capability, Every single game (home or away broadcast). They advertise that you will only get out-of-market games but this has not been the case for me when viewing with the AppleTV. On the gamecenter website some games will be blacked out but thats not the case with AppleTV. I would highly recommend Gamecenter live to any hockey fans who are on the fence about it.

Wait a second..."away feed"? Are you saying there is a home and an away feed? So does that mean there is a way to get around local blackout?

I don't know if it gets around blackout, but there is an option for away feed.

Very interesting. I did not realize that it had home and away. I have a friend with MLB, I'll have to ask him. Hopefully someone will come along with the answer for NHL.

Sadly it does not get around blackouts. It's the team that is blacked out, not the broadcast. It just allows fans of a certain team to always be able to watch with their network and their broadcasters. It's nice because I always hate listening to announcers of other teams, while not always, they do seem to have a bias towards them. I'd rather hear my guys so that the bias is always towards my team :)

Now, regarding blackouts. I have yet to test this further, but there was an NHL Network broadcast game (which should be blacked out) a week or two back that I had access to on my ATV. It did NOT work on my iPhone or on the computer (said it was a nationally televised blackout), yet it loaded and played just fine on my ATV. Wonder if it was just a bug or what. It'd have to be, and I seem to remember it being the day 4.4 came out so ATV was new to NHL, but still... it did work!

For the sake of blackouts though, don't take that as they aren't enforced. They are.

Oh wow, if that was true that the ATV could get around the local blackouts, I'd buy it tomorrow. Can you provide feedback on whether it was a bug or not? I need the NHL and NBA feeds to dump cable (NFL is OTA to my MythTV). The other thing I would love is realtime ESPN feeds. Just saying. I just can't buy it quite yet because it's not quite a full cable replacement.

Earliest I could check is tomorrow, since all the games tonight are not nationally televised. I will try to remember to check tomorrow for you. I'm not able to test local blackouts since I have no NHL teams that are locally blacked out for me.

I'm almost positive that it was a one time only deal and a bug. Note that even if it works for me, it might not for you, or it might be a local thing, or who knows. I just don't want you to buy it on account of it working for me and have it not work for you.

I keep hoping that the Versus and Comcast SN broadcasts are not subject to the blackout, and just the locally broadcast games are. Anyway, I'm so close to Apple TV, local HD, and iTunes and Hulu for the shows I like to watch. So close.

The Versus and NHL Network are the only national black outs. Comcast SN has not been blocked out (in my experience) unless your in the local area of the team thats playing.

Today is the first time I've seen any game blacked out. Previously I didn't think they blacked out the Hawks in my area but recently there have been a lot of home games. Having said that I recently applied the software update for the Apple TV2 and I think maybe that had something to do with the consistent black outs now.

They blacked out the Red Wings game too tonight! That makes me so angry because we PAID the NHL for content. They shouldn't be able reserve the right to black out a game when we've specifically paid for it.
