Where would you get the Sigma 50 1.4, adorama, BH? Thats gonna be a lens I get so if I can get it now then its all good. Thanks for your help!

Yeah, either of those or Amazon. Adorama seems to ship a lot more quickly than Amazon.

Would an 18-55mm NON-IS be a good deal at $65?

No, don't even consider the non-IS version; it is fairly infamous for its weaknesses. The IS version is a completely reworked lens and is better than its predecessor in every way.

How about the 17-85 f/4-5.6? It's more than $350, but I hear good things about them.

With these two lenses (the 70-200L), you have the whole range from 17 to 200, with some overlap. The nice thing about the 17-85 is the USM/full-time manual focus and the overall build quality. I love my 18-55IS, but it's not be most rugged and many people are turned off by the plastic mount.

Another lens to consider is the 28-135/IS as a walk-around lens. But then there's a much bigger range of overlap to your 70-200L.

Ok, so I currently have the Nikon D60. Its a great camera but I find to change controls its too much menu work. I am looking at exchanging the D60 for the Canon 40D or the Nikon D80/90. I see a lot of people with Canons (went to a Nuggets game and all I saw were white lenses:eek:). I'm very familiar with Nikons, but hear nothing but good things about Canons...I'm stuck. I realize a lot of the decision is based on personal preference/ergonomics, and as far as lenses go...does Canon have as wide of a selection as Nikon? This is a hard pick. I will more than likely pick up a body, and get a lens...not a kit. My max is $900. Thanks guys ;)

I don't think you can go wrong with the 40D. If you have any aspirations of doing professional work, the canon lens lineup is top notch.

*Update*

This is my feeling on the 40D after about a months use, compared to the Nikon D60. The camera is EXACTLY what I wanted!!! The buttons on the outside (not in menu like the D60) helps out when you want to get that quick shot! I am still surprised at the quality of this camera. Dont get me wrong the D60 can take amazing photos, but the 40D autofocus time, focus points, and lens lineup is great! Im super happy I made this choice. My words of advice to you guys looking to get into photography is to buy an 'older' more capable body + good starter lens, then to buy the latest body (more $$) and an 'OK' lens. The lenses really do make more of a difference. Im about to pick up a 70-200 USM f/2.8L IS. Great lens, but very capable on the 40D. I hope this helps someone.
