If you leave the default HD name "Macintosh HD" as part of the file path, it gives those with nefarious intents the clear path to your directory structure. Best to rename it.
(Not as much of an issue these days, as there are other routes to the files, but still good practice).

I can't bring myself to name anything "The Heart of Gold", though. It just sounds too corny.
And that symbol makes me think of a song...

This is not actually true. Whatever you name the drive the path to it is simply "/"
Perhaps this was an issue in the OS9 and earlier days?
Those days pretty abruptly stopped (IIRC) with System 7.1, some seven years before System 9 came alongOS9 (oops it was still System 9 wasn't it?) was pretty bad.
I remember a few times when the whole Mac Lab at school got shut down from a virus. Remember when Macs got viruses all the time?
