What a troll.

Of course. Get back to your daily holy Steve prayer now...
Forbidden to right about my experience if it's not full of "amazing" in it...

Well, not sure why Apple store would display the brand new models
with an old version of whatever installed. It was very clear to me
they were both slow and were not playing full HD video.

I would rather trust my own eyes than some reports here
by the fanboys/new (excited) owners...

I don't get why, even if they have to use an old intel chip,
they wouldn't use the fastest version like the one in 13" MBP?

Because the people running those shops are idiots. Apple ships the Airs without Flash installed, so they installed some random version of it instead of the only one that is suitable for accelerated playback. Maybe they also wanna make a point that Flash sucks... Who knows what their intentions were...

Because the faster processors generate more heat and require more power.

More power usage = larger battery needed, which is physically impossible
More heat = more cooling needed which is physically impossible

Also in my personal opinion CPU speed is highly overrated. Having a SSD over a traditional hard drive makes all the difference in the world.

Ever heard of an external monitor? You know Apple sells those screens which you can connect to laptops. They usually are bigger than 13".

Fair enough :)

From what I've tested, GPU accelerated H.264 deciding (ie. iTunes movies) work great on the 11". Even some Flash videos that are great at choking computers (NHL GameCenter Live) run great. The last time I checked, VLC doesn't use hardware decoding for MKV files, which would be a problem, but that could have changed.

Well, instead of spouting off about something you don't understand, why not research things first? Then you'd get it.

I am the owner of a MacBook Air. I have installed Flash 10.1b. My machine will run 1080P content just fine from sources other than Flash in the browser. There's a little stutter and lag with YouTube 1080 - none whatsoever with 720.

If the MBA isn't for you, that's all well and good. But maybe you've stumbled into the wrong section of the forum?

Or... do you just enjoy being wrong often?
That's it, no more MBA...
I guess we should be happy there are still some notebooks made by Apple. :(

Get a life OP. 11" screen really doesn't scream for 1080P content. If you are watching such a video on a site like Youtube just chose the 720P version instead. It's a complete non-issue.

I don't think it is a 'nonissue'

I used to have an asus eee pc. Everyone would talk about the bad performance of netbooks but I used it as my work computer for 4months and it wasn't so bad except for flash performance (and this was on windows where flash is more optimized)

Flash intensive sites would make the thing stutter and watching high quality flash video was a big PIA. It made web surfing, one of the main uses for machines like these, not a full experience because some sites (I'm going to call out CNET here) like to be really Flash intensive.

The point is I think it is important to be aware of the 11" MBA's limits. They don't just include obvious things like video editing and 3d rendering. Most people will want to do their regular web surfing activities on this computer and they should know it might not perform exactly like higher end machines for some sites. And no flash 10.1 won't completely solve the problem. On my MBP the CPU is still at 75% watching youtube in HD.

This doesn't mean the MBA isn't a good machine but it isn't going to perform miracles either.

You don't have Flash 10.1 installed!
Anyway just install the Safari 5 Extension "Click To Flash" it replaces Flashes like that with QuickTime and all is good ;)

As a current owner of a 13" with 2GB of RAM i was having some serious concerns over the performance of the machine due to Flash player, a lot of pages we slow in loading and video was not so ideal. I just downloaded Flash beta 10.2 and it seems to be substantially better performance wise, i am actually very surprised.

Um, you are comparing your Asus to a MBA. Two very different machines with respects to processor and performance.

If someone who owns a current MBA wants to tell me otherwise, please do so, but I'm confident even the base model 11" MBA can handle 720P Youtube with no issues.

OP failed to even mention what he was talking about when saying "1080p". This guy is only trying to elicit responses and it's working. Just ignore it guys.

I have never seen HD that looks any different than what we've been dealing with for years.

It's all one big fat placebo.

Get a better screen. 1080p is very noticeable, especially high bit rate 1080p without compression artifacts. 720p is also very noticeable over standard 480p resolution.
