I was all set to get the Pro Max model this year. It's overkill for what I do, but the 120hz and AOD were potential game-changers for Apple. To only get half the deal, I might just save my pennies and get the regular 13.

Apple mentioned the display goes down to 10hz, whereas the Apple Watch with AOD can go as low as 1 hz….I wonder if that is the reason for no AOD?

This is not necessarily surprising. Apples caters to average Joes and Janes who don’t care about aod or even pro motion for that matter.

a variable refresh rate screen is not needed for aod. Samsung has been doing it for a while on 60hz with minimal battery drain

Overall, the rumor crew had a pretty poor showing this year. I don't put much stock in the rumors, but I do pay attention with some interest. I heard AoD, colors, etc. The "accurate" rumors were mainly limited to the physical aspects of the phone. The "late breaking rumors" on what would be announced were wrong. AoD, iPhone Colors were a big FAIL, but eclipsed by the Apple Watch "3D renderings." Ha! Perhaps a big FU message from Apple? (Good for them, I say)

As an iPhone 11 Pro owner, I think the camera improvements sound great, and I look forward to better 5G speeds as deployments continue for the carriers.

I will admit though, that ProMotion and 120hz refresh rate is much needed on a high end flagship today, it will be great on the 13 Pro's. Brighter display for better visibility outdoors is always a welcomed upgrade on any phone. Plus bigger batteries and more efficient processor is always nice as well.

Is a software/firmware upgrade possible to enable AoD?

Yeah, if it's an OLED display it can run AOD. It doesn't need a high refresh-rate or LTPO technology.

OnePlus didn't have AOD for awhile, but I believe they retroactively added it to some of their older OLED phones with a software update. Apple could do the same. But will they? Outlook not so good.

Absolute joke of a company.

iPhone 11 Pro max user here. Absolutely no reason to upgrade.

The only two things I wanted - Touch ID or AOD are mia. I would have made the jump for either feature.

Zero compelling reasons to upgrade.

Apple - you've lost it.

And as far as Astro shots the rumors were that it would get a dedicated Astro mode like the Pixel phones have.
Why does everything need to be a dedicated mode? Are you mad because HDR is no longer a dedicated mode? Do you want a baby mode, an old people mode, a border collie mode…

The 11 Pro Max is one of the best iPhone's that Apple has ever made.

Stellar battery life.
Fast hardware
Bright crisp display
Rounded smooth edges = much more comfortable to hold than the sharp squared edges on the 12 / 13 line.

Going from an 11 Pro Max to a 13 Pro Max just isn't much of an upgrade.

I called it in your other thread 😂

Apple holds back features, they were supposed to have promotion last year. But then what would’ve they added this year?

I’m pretty bummed that there’s no matte black and that the camera module wasn’t designed more like the iPad Pro’s, but I love that new blue.

Zero compelling reasons to upgrade.
And that bl**dy notch is STILL there. After 4 years! Assuming they finally get rid of it next year, that'll end up as half a decade with that design monstrosity. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if they kept it on the iPhone 14 and only remove it from the Pro models. 😤

What's so great about AOD? I mean I have it on my old lg v30. I usually just have the time showing or sometimes a picture but if the 13 pro don't have it I wouldn't miss it. Sounds like alot of people just want to look at their phones from a distance or something. Don't y'all have an apple watch on anyways? I'm still switching from Android to iPhone this year. Just tired of buggy phones got away from Samsung phones awhile back because alot of problems

Really blows there isn’t any kind of AOD for the 13.. I was really hoping that was the case.

I wish I didn’t sell my iPhone 12.. honestly

Blows big time but I still think the 12/13 design destroys the 11/x design. I'll upgrade for that alone but the base model 12/13 is more than enough for most people.

Apple is gonna do well in the fitness industry with that trainer app or whatever it's called, Apple doesn't care about the tech stuff they're more thinking innovation and us as a group is a small hard headed bunch that complains about ghz and mhz and pled VS lcd apple could care less.

They trying to dominate industries like Healthcare and so forth even with the license app we see how they think.

They'll never touch Samsung with toys and features and we need to stop expecting them too it's simply not where the long term money is at.

Smartphones haven't stagnated or stopped innovating. Only Apple has.

Look at the upcoming Pixel 6 compared to the Pixel 5, its a massive night and day dramatic change. Whole new design, different size and shape, all new hardware, all new software style.

This is why I like the Pixel line, they are willing to change each and every year, with an all new Design, give us something brand new every 12 months.

That's also why I liked the Nexus line too, each and every year a different manufacturer got the chance to make a Nexus phone, with their own unique design and style, and every year we got a different phone. Some years a better phone, some years a worse phone. But it was exciting to see the new Nexus phone each year. It was never a copycat same design used for several years in row, no way, never.

I hate how Apple keeps the same overall design, for like 4 to 5 years, it's lame, boring, and shows no balls to go far out there and just try something new and fresh.

Even Samsung is willing to change their design and shape and sizes each year. Yeah the Galaxy line doesn't look night and day different each year, but they are always slightly different, never a copycat from the previous year. I appreciate that Samsung does that.

Ok, rant over. LOL :)
