Glad you got it working and thanks for posting the video for all of us. I have tried logging in and out of iCloud to no prevail. I have all but given up on this working until next beta. Beta 2 on the watch isn't behaving very well anyways.

EDIT: wow after actually watching the video it works rather fast and makes me really want mine to work... I am flying out for work tomorrow morning though and simply don't have time to try and do a full fresh install of Sierra. Maybe I need to unpaid and repair my watch... /frustrated

I unpaired and re-paired my watch no difference.

2 Factor Authentication Enabled for iCloud
Early 2013 15" rMBP Sierra b2, iPhone 6 Plus iOS 10b2, Apple Watch Sport watchOS 3b2

Tried signing out of iCloud and signing back in on both Mac and iPhone, re-pairing watch, disabling and re-enabling 2FA, still don't see the option in Security prefs. Has anyone with the early-2013 rMBP been able to get it working? Trying a clean install of Sierra next, hopefully that will work...

I haven't seen anyone on MR or anywhere on the internet for that matter that has been able to do this. I have an early 2013 15" as well and I'm going to be really disappointed if my computer won't support this. I've done everything you've done to no avail.

I think it is just simply due to the fact we are still in beta boys. Beyond that this is the first beta that included this feature so join me in being patient and hopefully we will all get what we want by the next beta. I have a late 2013 decked out iMac and while I have the check box, I have no luck getting the watch to unlock it. I feel it will be ironed out soon.

I definitely understand that we are in beta, however it wouldn't be unprecedented for Apple to drop features from otherwise fully capable machines. I'm hoping this is just a beta bug, but I have a feeling this was deliberate.

Erase and clean install didn't work either, looks like we'll be waiting for the next beta... :/

Auto lock works but it disconnects your Wifi. Known bug but make it pointless to use at this point if you're unlocking from screen saver

Yup I even searched through all the Continuity/Handoff PLIST files (system and user) and couldn't find a toggle anywhere that worked to enable it, just hope they'll enable it eventually during the beta...

I did some tests on our development stack what has different Macs from different years and configurations, I came to conclusion that it seems to be working with laptops what have modern Energy Saver settings (Intel improved power saving in haswell e.g. S0iX power state / better Power Nap). So it might require haswell or newer to work (and/or Bluetooth 4.1+).

So if you have separated Computer sleep and Display sleep sliders, it won't work (for now).. And as far I have seen, Macs from Mid 2013 onwards have combined one.

Maybe going deep into .kext you could find way to enable it.

EDIT: Too tired.

Could it be related to the presence of the 802.11ac airport card? Saw in another thread that someone with an upgraded card was able to make it work on their mid 2012 15" rMBP. During the post WWDC interview with Gruber, Craig alluded to the fact that auto unlock uses multiple forms of wireless communication to your mac, not just bluetooth 4.0...

Craig Federighi said:
And so, we’re actually able to do time of flight calculations using peer-to-peer Wi-Fi where we literally can measure how long at the speed of light it’s taking for the signal to travel from your Mac to your watch and back.

It works for me, but it's actually faster for me to type password, takes something like 3-4 seconds. nothing like as fast as that video, I wonder why. Mid 2015 15" pro retina.

That's why you should pick a longer and more complex password. Same thing with Touch ID: I know a lot people use it in conjunction with a 4-digit or 6-digit passcode. First of all, it's not secure enough. Second, it can be typed as quickly as using Touch ID. Except when you've got an iPhone 6s of course. Anyway, because of the fingerprint scanner I'm using an alphanumeric passcode that's pretty complex. It would take like ten seconds unlock, unless I use Touch ID.

On my Mac, I'm also using a complex passcode. One that even I can barely remember. After all, my Apple Watch logs me right into macOS. Of course I still have to type the passcode when the watch is removed from my wrist or when I rebooted my Mac. But that's all.

In that scenario - so when you're using an extra complex passcode - Auto Unlock really becomes handy. At least, for me it is. :)

I probably will switch to a longer password if it works quickly and reliably enough, though I am a fairly quick typist, and my password is alpha-numeric. but right now, it's just too slow on my system at least. I can see from the earlier posted video that it can be fast enough.

Also, I don't wear my watch all the time, partly because the metal band doesn't sit nicely against edge of laptop.

Wow, hours later the option showed up on my Mac. Might be some kind of task that needs to be run on the iCloud servers before you account has the option? Who knows.

Note, I wasn't even though I had the checkbox it wasn't able to establish a connection with my Watch until I rebooted all three devices (Mac, iPhone, Watch).

It's not super fast but not bad either for a long work password. The great news is that the feature does work if you lock your screen via a screensaver. Simply move your mouse and it unlocks via AppleWatch! Unsurprisingly this unlock tends to be a little faster since the Mac is already up and running.

Ive heard of people with 2011 machines with the CAT tool installed get the auto lock feature to work. I think its just buggy right now for a lot of people and it will be fixed in subsequent betas.
