I guess we never found out of your Wi-Fi network has to be AC? My Macs all support AC, but my home Wi-Fi is still using an 802.11n access point.

I'm hoping the watch and laptops Wi-Fi antennas can do the "time of flight" authentication between themselves, without needing such compatibility with the main network.

I have tried ALL of the things, and no matter what I do, the unlock option is not present in my security section in System Preferences. It's not so much that being able to unlock my MBP is super important...but it would be nice if mid-2012 MBP could be invited to the party.

I've used it on N networks without a problem.

I have a 2015 Macbook Pro and the auto unlock option is missing. I tried signing out and into iCloud again and i have 2 FACTOR authentication enabled. Still nothing.

Confirmed. Just updated my Early 2016 MacBook, and was able to successfully use the feature with AW on my 802.11n-only network.

Not sure how to help you folks that can't get it working. Definitely frustrating.
