they didn't even bring the journal app over to ipad os.
Does anybody actually care about that, though? I don't think I've ever even opened the Journal app.

Considering that Notes has been around forever and nobody was asking for another dedicated app that can do the same thing, Journal seems like a solution in search of a problem.

I do. I may be in the monority, but i'm not the only one. typing entries on my phone is nonsensical.

another thing to keep in mind is that a lot of news reports were saying apple was shifting resources to go all in on AI. I don't want to project into the future, but it's hard for me to believe that apple won't continue to put most of their resources on AI.

I'm still within the return period for my M4 11. Debating if I should return it since iPadOS looks so underwhelming.
I have a question… what didn’t your M4 11“ do that you was hoping Apple would have announced at WWDC… folks act as if their M4 iPad suddenly got discontinued lol.

And as the saying goes… buy the product as is not on what you hope it would become.

I bought an M1 ipad air refurbished for 300 to replace my 2018 Ipad pro. Since M1 is covered in the "apple intelligence". I think that's about how much I would spend on a new ipad.

Yeah it made me feel better about not shelling out for the M4 iPads.
Indeed, you can literally see why they were desperate to get the new hardware out ahead of WWDC.

At the end of the day, the iPad is just an iPad, and it seems Apple is all but admitting it with this release. That’s fine, I’m happy to use it that way, and plough my investment back into the Mac. Will be going refurb 11“ and only pencil in the future.

I held off upgrading my M2 11" and my M1 12.9" to see what was announced and figure out if things like the extra memory/core in the 1TB would be worth it. Seeing nothing groundbreaking announced at all as far as usability or groundbreaking new features requiring extra horsepower, I may just upgrade the M1 12.9 to a base model M4 13" and stick with the M2 11".
Why upgrade at all? What's in an M4 that your M1 won't do other than Apple Pencil Hover?

They’re clearly focussing more on the tablet and the pencil than on the “laptop replacement“ side which many here want. The calculator and notes features prove that.

Like it or not, it makes a lot of sense from their point of view. Want a laptop, we have Macs for you. Want a versatile modular device with some (slightly limited) laptop capabilities, we have the iPad.

the real question is does apple expect ipad to be a standalone device or a companion device. whether you think apple should prioritize drawing features, or keyboard productivity, doesn't change the fact that ipad today isn't a great standalone device for pro users. the file app on ipad is terrible. ipadOS has extremely limited backup functions, doesn't support things like versioning. Drag and drop support isn't great. i can't even backup my photo library to a local storage without it crashing. resizeability of windows aren't always great. All of these are important for any type of power user.

when we're saying it's a mac replacement, i take it to mean, can your only device be an iPad. The answer today is no, not unless you want to make a lot of pro-level compromises.

I was clinging to that slim hope—maybe that 0.01% chance—that Apple would announce an option for iPad Pro users to boot into macOS or use it in some capacity. But once again, I'm disappointed. It's baffling that Apple charges the equivalent of a mid-range MacBook Air or MacBook Pro for an iPad Pro, which offers significantly less functionality for power users and multitaskers.

The hardware continues to outpace the software on these devices and I still don't understand what Apple is trying to achieve with this class of device. Insane. Frankly insane....

Apple behaving kinda like Google in this regard where it shows that they don't have any idea of what to do with the iPad Pro.

Same. I’m still a bit tempted by the better/improved microphones, but definitely not worth it the extra cash and the risk of OLED PWM making my eyes uncomfortable. So glad I purchased this M2 iPad Pro… I wish I had opted for the silver 256GB model instead of the grey 128GB one… but I’m good with it.

As for the microphones… maybe an USB-C microphones could offer me better audio.
